Hi Jake; I wonder if you can set a FIXED temp difference between the 1st and the 2nd set points to avoid having to reset the 2nd. set point when modifying the 1st one. This is specially useful when working with water chillers with two compressors. The 2nd compressor will start always based on the temp difference. This is like if the 2nd. set point is "following" the 1st set point. Thank you!!

Those controllers are too complicated to set. When the sous vide came out it was too expensive. I bought a temperature controller to test, the only difference is it does not move the water, but it gives a rough idea. I bought a temperature controller and hooked it up to a slow cooker, plugged the controller into the outlet, then plugged the slow cooker into the controller and the probe into the slow cooker. When the temperature reaches the set temperature, it cut the power for few minutes, then on again. It was okay for the test and later I bought the sous vide.

First!!!! I was astonished at the price of the smaller kegs too. I’ve held off getting any until I can across a great deal about a year ago. Now I have 2 small kegs.
@TallJakeW3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it's a tough decision. But having a couple small kegs is super nice for playing with split batches. I also started using one of my 2.5 gallon kegs just to have carbonated water on-hand, but my family likes it so much I had to switch the water keg to 5 gallons. :)

I like seeing vigorous yeast activity, but I've also had beers where a lot was happening I just couldn't set it. It was a different yeast, but i did what you considered and wound up with a geyser because the dry yeast provided nucleation points for the co2 to come out of solution. It was a mess

So I used your video to clean my keg, I kept losing the tap, and I took it apart and cleaned it, then had to swap it into a dispenser, to filter it back into the keg. The keg had a wort baby at the bottom and my out line hose had a wort poop. You saved my batch, cheers :)

@TallJakeW4 жыл бұрын
I usually had the garage doors open when I brewed. But since this was just a few minutes, i didn't. Several guys i knew in Wisconsin did the same thing. Also know guys with full propane setups inside their house, but that's a whole other level of ventilation required.

A larger eyebolt would be better, and consider welding the ring closed, as I've seen them pulled straight.
@TallJakeW4 жыл бұрын
I can see the value in that happening if you had more plants than these did. There was no top wire, so there were only 3 plants on each pole. The biggest problem was actually that the bines would grow through the pulley at the top so it was a pain to get them down to pick the hops off them.

IMHO heat was the culprit. BB is set in Albuquerque, New Mexico. It gets pretty warm during summers. The garage he is keeping the bottles is directly exposed to sunlight as obvious in the scene. Too much carbonation in 2-3 days also points towards higher temperature fermentation. Garage is never a good place to condition bottles anyway. A cellar is.
@TallJakeW5 жыл бұрын
I agree that heat was definitely a factor, and the garage is not a good place for doing anything other than the boil without temperature control. I still think he had to overprime the bottles. Although given there was no reference to when he brewed it, maybe they thought you went straight from the kettle into bottles. 🤣🤣🤣
@slaprakshas5 жыл бұрын
@@TallJakeW Totally agreed. And your point is valid. There has to be some amount of extra sugars going into the priming. BTW great job of exploring and introducing this tiny but brilliant pop culture instance to the homebrewing community... No hard feelings please.. I only spoke from my experience living in India and the mistakes I ve made in our hot as hell climate. Refrigerators are mandatory for berwing here.
@TallJakeW5 жыл бұрын
@@slaprakshas Thank you, no hard feelings at all. I'm on the other end of the spectrum, living in Wisconsin with a basement. Even in midsummer, the temp in my basement rarely gets above 75 Fahrenheit. Your point about the heat speeding everything up could also cause in increase in the internal pressure, especially if the co2 is being produced faster than it can dissolve into the beer.
@slaprakshas5 жыл бұрын
@@TallJakeW Hey man.. I just watched your video till end realized you have already addressed the heat factor in Albuquerque. How silly of me!! Deep apologies. With your permission I ll delete my comment
