Love this game! Still play it regularly. Joined a battalion once I was so into it. Boot camp was fun, funny and oddly immersive. I always thought this game has just enough realism and strategy to not be tedious and stay engaging. You make great points about the movement and player stamina and about how DH really doesnt give any Hollywood treatment. Player movement particularly evokes the feeling of being a soldier but not a war hero. Firearms (of WW2) are rather heavy, and like how could I realistically be expected to sprint with one for very long in addition to the like 80 pounds of kit and ammo on my body. And not to mention the sense of anxiety fear and dread when you realize you are out of ammo. I think DH is the kind of WW2 shooter you would likely find some people who do reenactment/living history IRL playing it. Also, I'm excited for the Italy update.

I still remember seeing the pre-release footage of this game before it all got scrapped then overhauled into the game that we know. While conviction is a major departure from what a splinter cell game should be, the direction this game went in makes sense if you stood back and considered what Sam Fisher was going through. He was no longer undercover or sneaking around on missions of espionage, he felt betrayed by the country and organization he gave his life to. Between losing his daughter and placing that gun against Lambert's head he was pushed to his very limit... So he became an apex predator hunting his pursuers while seeking vengeance and answers for what had happened to his daughter. This was the moment that the beast within needed to come out and it was the perfect moment to make a killer action game unlike any other. Then after all is said and done Sam steps back into the shadows and gets right back to work. A deviation, yes but a necessary one to tell the story of Sam Fisher.

@@mrdoubleyew6340 no,no,no,no,no. what subjective is if you think the game is good or bad or in other words if you enjoy it or not. i like it, somewhat for what it is. but what objectivly true about this game is that it has the worst controls in the series by far. nothing in the controls feels "smooth". you are blinded by nostalgia of it being your first splinter cell. whenever you are in cover and you want to do cover takedown on an enemy, sam will stand up so all the enemies in the room can see him and will do the slowest animation possible so you will be detected easly. the takedowns in this game are atrocious. they are overly long and they cause you to being detected. every action like opening a door which is the most simple thing ever will start a long animation.if you want to stop from running there is a delay. the animations are also trash in this game. the first splinter cell has better and more realistic animations. the animations in this game are too generic and climbing and moving feel like prince of persia and not splinter cell. i get it if you wanted to make it faster but its so bad its not fun to do anything in this game. the running is wierd and you cant control the levels of speed you want to move like you could do in all splinter cell games prior to this game. sam cant even move fast while cruching, you need to stand up in the middle of room full of enemies if you want to move fast. the cover system and the cover switch is terrible. you can in pandora tommrow switch covers much faster. every time there is a room and you go through the door you are blind to whatever there is in the room. the controls of this game are atrocious and the same bad controls continued in blacklist which is slightly better but not much. you mentioned that you played the demo. most be the malta level. in the malta level you could get stealthy somewhat. but after that the game forces you into action again and again. you have nostalgia googles on and they are effecting your judgement. not to mention that the game was made for a controller while the previous SC games are equally cormftable with a control or a mouse and keyboard. this one is unplayable with a mouse and keyboard

I gotta disagree with some of these points, like breaching, it only adds to the game and and makes you feel badass, but it's certainly not overdone. Or stealth, unless you're really careful with your kills and environment, you will likely be spotted and have to go loud.

Looking at blacklist, splinter cell fans should be grateful of conviction, as Victor said The Sam you knew was dead & that was the sole purporse of the whole game theme where Sam is tired & frustrated- no longer working for third echelon but is independent on his own. The transition between Double Agent & Conviction is inredible. At the end of Double Agent, third echelon murders his friend Enrica & Sam goes to hiding for a while, you can see how old he gets and how rough he gets within time until conviction. Blacklist just ruined the entire storyline, it became a fire dumpster where Sam looks like he is younger again, no ironside & the acting looks terrible and cringe, timeline executed poorly and Sam looks very corny & arrogant, i thought he left working from military agencies? wasn't that his last lines in Conviction? being himself only? Ubi failed.

Conviction was never a bad game. My gripe is that it really wasn't a SplinterCell game. The series was in need of an update at the time of this game, but they went too far with this game. I think Blacklist was a better update to the series. Was it perfect? No, but it was still recognizable as a SplinterCell game. I still miss the depth of Chaos Theory, though.

This game was made for consoles. To the point that the stealth camo system needed analog controls. That's why you were caught every time you decloaked. PC button press, full speed making you decloak. You need an anolog stick to get the full experience. Heck, you can sneak by enemies in full cloak as they walk on by while if you do move a little in full cloak, they do notice you a little so you have to stop moving. You a Ghost. Not the rambo shooting it all. You aren't supposed to be there and never was. What's more, there are challenges and gun challenges you can do. Half of it are stealth ones. These are impossible on PC unless you have a controller hooked up. The game is also made for co-op system as well, playing with friends who can play like a crack shot team that doesn't shoot everything that moves and loves to play stealth style. And the highlight of the game is the technology you can mess with. Also, the 'easy' shots you can do like through cover...your bullets can go through things and cover. Its a feature, not a dermit. Espically if you get guns that will go through more things with heavier piercing level. Espically with the destructiable environment and cover system. Also, the Bodark spec op enemies are fucking cool and their intro mission even more so with your system glitching the hell out and you can't use your so-called 'wall-hacks'. Just your eyes in that moment against camo enemies.

The problem that i had with Breakpoint is that Ubisoft neutered both the world and villains, I'd rather have a cartel/separatists type of scenario set in an actual world location rather than fighting in a fictional island owned by a techbro with a villainous henchmen that is made up of former ghosts, which after playing the game for hours, still have no clue why not only there are so many ex ghosts considering how canonically they're the best of the best of the U.S. special forces, but they also willingly turn against their own country and fellow ghosts and decided to stick with a dickhead "alpha male" type bro that just want revenge The worst part is, despite being ex ghosts, the wolves are the exact same like the grunts, react the same way and have the exact same strategy with the only difference being they wear airsoft masks and have better armor, which made me stop taking them seriously from the intro of the game, all the way until i dropped the game after a few hours in

Imagine playing the 5th game in a series and complaining that the plot is abrupt and rushed. 😂 Sarah "died" in the last game and he was forced to murder his boss, going apeshit was inevitable. That's what the recap was for. Such a weird criticism to compare Fisher to film protags that came out *after* this game did too. Can't call Fisher a Wick ripoff, if Fisher did it first. 🤣

I wasn't criticizing the plot beats so much, just how they were developed and executed. I liked the story bits you're referring too, I just wanted more from those bits, like Sam going off the rails, and the impact of being reunited with his daughter. The later didn't stick the landing with me. I'm being a bit too critical perhaps, because I tend to scrutinize a Tom Clancy game for not having the same depth in narrative as a feature length movie, but they are just my thoughts, don't let them stop you from enjoying the game bro. Also the trope of out for revenge bad ass dad or whatever you want to call it goes back way before splinter cell, John wick is just a common example.(pretty sure I had Jack Bauer on there, who is much more akin to Fisher, and he predates sam Fisher by about two years.) And that's not really a criticism anyway, just shining a line on a similarity.

@@mrdoubleyew6340 Dude. Mate. Bro. "My perspective on the game was that playing it was such an acute experience because I hadn't played anything like it before" is exactly what I (rudely) described by "half an hour of an XBox child gushing over the dumbed down slop" etc. I get it that it was your first Splinter Cell and you were in early teenage years, thus looking on that time in your life and that game in particular through the rose-tinted glasses of nostalgia. And you know, it's perfectly fine for a video to be an essay about one's subjective feelings and experiences. However. In this video you claim to defend the game, to analyze it and to prove its naysayers wrong. All these tasks require some objectivity. But all your analysis and defense boils down to two points: first one is you saying "I really liked the game", and the second one is you (perhaps, unwittingly) repeating all the Ubisoft's marketing points that they would give in interviews and put on jewelboxes' backsides - "streamlined", "fast-paced", "action-oriented", "accessible", "doesn't require any effort", "you press the X button and a Cool Thing happens". All these things might be enjoyable for you and many more like you, yet still it's only a subjective judgment. The people who enjoyed the previous installments see all these things as negatives. Now, I don't claim to be objective, but I don't see any objective defense from your part either - and your video is half an hour long. All the things that you list as positive - like sliding from cover to cover with one button, or just two lighting states (completely in the open and completely hidden) - all these things scream "we want the Call of Duty audience" for me. I regret to inform you, but I'm afraid you might be part of the proverbial Call of Duty audience.

@HeadBobOff You don't need to regret anything. Like most people, I don't lose sleep over what fandoms and interest people associate me with. I get comments like yours from time to time that are worth a screen shot. But your first comment takes the cake - can't help but chuckle when I see gamer personalities live up to the stereotypes they create for themselves. And I am flattered in a weird way that my argument for why I think a video game is good compelled you to show off how far your head is up your ass. You're a living example of why people who prop themselves up by what gaming subcultures they belong to are associated with that Wojak meme. Like man, really. If you want me to take you seriously, try not to make yourself sound like Eric Cartman when you comment. Cause now I'm to distracted by how your brain led you to making a passionate argument by first making yourself out to be a pretentious buffoon. If you want a serious rebuttal/discussion, start off with a condensed version of your *third comment next time. Bro, mate, man.@@HeadBobOff

I just have to leave a comment to say how bizarre it is to talk about GRAW being great and future soldier being the death of realism in the ghost recon franchise. I mean GRAW literally centers around Mitchell being kitted out with a perfected version of land warrior which is still of debatable relevance in 2024 let alone what actually happened with the canceled project it was based off of. There’s also a pretty equal number of absurd weapons in both GRAW and future soldier. I mean there is a careless machine gun im unsure was ever produced in a significant number. I can see future soldier being criticized as more cinematic and less open ended in it’s gameplay. However, to tout future soldier as being the death of realism is the GR franchise lends GRAW (let alone GRAW2) as being much more realistic than it is.

"The empowerment fantasy stealth games have been floundering since their inception". To be fair, the first Metal Gear game is just shit in general. It's a really terrible game that I don't think should ever be used to judge the genre. Other than that, while I do disagree with a lot of what you said, this probably just comes back to the fact that I am an avid stealth game player and there's just going to be people out there who finds the genre unappealing the best selling games of all time aren't even stealth games. MGS has lots of shootouts, boss fights and action moments to give it a broader appeal than SC and Thief does. I am looking at your gameplay, and I am wondering if I was playing the game wrong or you just understood the mechanics better than me. I tried to play predator too, I love predator stealth but Conviction's level design and inaccurate weapons just sucked so much fun out of the game. The level design never feels as open as Blacklist does, Conviction bottlenecks you so much that it annoys the piss out of me. Partner that with how much the game wants you to use mark and execute and I just got annoyed after a point. It's short length is actually a strength due to how messy the level design and inaccurate weapons are. If these two things were fixed, I can picture this fuffling the power fantasy Ubisoft was going for. The 3rd Ecehlion HQ mission is the best mission in the game since it bottlenecks you the least, it felt like you actually had leeway in how you can move around. Pretty much every Blacklist level is designed like that which is why I prefer it so much over Conviction.
