Ubisoft believe the success of Wildlands as due to the open-world, graphics and aggressive marketing tactics. As a result the publisher decided to spend haft of their budget on a bigger open-world, bigger graphics and the other half on marketing. Therefore you have a Breakpoint.
@mrdoubleyew63405 жыл бұрын
Exactly, What even is Ghost Recon anymore? You can track its evolution simply throughout the 2000s, but when the 2010s came around, it was just trying to innovate and adapt to market trends. Such a shame that this has led to its downfall.
@repman5975 жыл бұрын
According to John Sonedecker one of the lead designers for the Original Ghost Recon . “We built Ghost Recon for well under $10mil, but that would barely get you past pre-production for AAA games these days. Not to mention you would never see a TV spot for Ghost Recon back then.” The average AAA games are between $60 to 100 million. Open-world AAA are between 80 to 100 million. The marketing budget for Breakpoint is four times the entire budget of the original Ghost Recon. www.ghostrecon.net/all-news/ghost-recon/john-sonedecker-on-ghost-recon/

Great video my friend :) you have me itching to play an old ghost recon game. it really is a shame that publishers feel the need to "open world sandbox" all the things, and even in cases like GR where it *could* be a beneficial change, they're too scared to commit to risky design decisions that will alienate your casual player coming over from Destiny or CoD. i was really excited for this game when it was announced and i wish it was better.

I would like a reboot of the whole thing. Fully dive into US Land Warrior Program/Objective Force lore from the early 2000s. Focus on realistic, slow, and lethal gameplay. Basically, take the original GR, give it GRAWs aesthetic and Far Cry 5s map/mission editor.

In my opinon, Future solider wasn't that terrible, and I do remember it somewhat fondly. But it was a huge departure from what the previous 4 mainline games did with its gameplay. It traded tactical gameplay for a streamlined 3rd person approach more akin to Gears. And at the time (2012) not as many people were biting.

Why thank you sir for your kind comments. I did attempt to, but I felt the hour had passed with this game. Although I do enjoy the more lethal gunplay that the damage modifiers account for, there's nothing terribly unique to it IMO. I ended up buying it on sale, and wounded up playing it twice. I know Clu Sauce has made a video about it.

Did you get the optical camo in this?
@skootmeister3994 Жыл бұрын
A long comment, as someone who played both games and enjoys Wildlands for the depiction of Bolivia, the Cartel, and how it feels alive compared to Breakpoint, everything you said criticizing WL in this vid is spot on, and therefore some blame can be put on WL for BP. Something worth noting is BP since its release does more crossovers with Splinter Cell and R6 (better to a degree than WL ESPECIALLY the SC one) and begrudgingly Terminator (though that's over thank god.) And it also does some damage to Ghost lore regarding contradictions and laziness. It reuses Bodark, the Russian "Ghosts" from Future soldier TWICE, one year AFTER said game's events. And WL takes place in 2019. This is notable because they had a sort of "crossover" with introducing a younger Kozak fresh into the Ghosts, and he's using the optical camo, saying it's experimental... but then in the Fallen Ghosts DLC we see Los Extranjeros soldiers using the exact same thing... so is it experimental or... how'd they get it? They do it again in BP by calling it experimental again, like the Ghosts never used it. I bring these examples up because there's one thing you didn't really explain in this vid that I feel you should have... (or maybe you did and I'm too dense to realize) and I'm annoyed no one else has either. The idea of what a Ghost is. What is a Ghost? Well I think the wiki sums it up pretty well. "It is the Army's crème of the crop Special Mission Unit whose operators are armed with state-of-the-art weapon systems and are trained in the best field and combat tactics. They are the most experienced, specialized, and qualified special operations force that JSOC has to offer." Basically the Ghosts are a different breed of soldier compared to Army Delta, Navy SEALs, Marine FORESOC, etc etc. Who themselves have their own differences from one another I'm sure. Part of their MO is fieldtesting the latest and even experimental gear. This paragraph from the novel supports that. "Mitchell grinned in awe. During the past eighteen months he had fielded some mind blowing gear while serving in the countries of Georgia and Eritrea, and he never ceased being impressed. Now, not only was he on a mission of utmost importance, but he had been chosen to field-test an early beta version of the Cross-Com system, a program whose funding was already in jeapordy. Despite that, he had made the stern argument that every operator on his team should be fitted with the devices, cost be damned. He thought it invaluable to have all Ghosts equipped with the best technology to have total situational awareness, not just the team leader. He won his argument. Indeed, Susan Grey had been right about the Ghosts. They got what they wanted because they produced results." The Cross-Com is the narrative reason why enemies in GRAW are highlighted, you have your HUD, how you can order squadmates and other assets around, etc. I know you already touched on that formula and said the future stuff is a bit cheesy thanks to CoD. But I'm not arguing on a trend perspective, I'm talking in-universe. In Wildlands, I can buy the Ghosts not having their full advanced gear given it's more "undercover." But the paragraph I grabbed here is ALSO during an undercover mission. Mitchell and his team were in Taliban garb using local weapons so there's some leeway here. Ghosts have always represented the cutting edge in some way, now we're supposed to expect they've gone to using old M4s and baseball caps because "it still works?" It's one of the reasons despite Future Soldier's flaws, I love it's depiction of the Ghosts and am bummed the E3 version didn't make the cut. (Except in the Wii game) Combined with the contradictions and Bodark use I cited... it feels like Ubisoft has stopped caring when they made this and tried to get more people interested with nostalgia, a popular franchise that's "thematically fitting," and another Fallen Ghost

The problem that i had with Breakpoint is that Ubisoft neutered both the world and villains, I'd rather have a cartel/separatists type of scenario set in an actual world location rather than fighting in a fictional island owned by a techbro with a villainous henchmen that is made up of former ghosts, which after playing the game for hours, still have no clue why not only there are so many ex ghosts considering how canonically they're the best of the best of the U.S. special forces, but they also willingly turn against their own country and fellow ghosts and decided to stick with a dickhead "alpha male" type bro that just want revenge The worst part is, despite being ex ghosts, the wolves are the exact same like the grunts, react the same way and have the exact same strategy with the only difference being they wear airsoft masks and have better armor, which made me stop taking them seriously from the intro of the game, all the way until i dropped the game after a few hours in

Excellent video. It sucks that Breakpoint just wasn't what I thought it would be from the marketing. Sucks even more the Jon Bernthal was wasted on a game like this. Walker and the Wolves were super interesting, but in gameplay and overall story, they were stale. Things like the injury system need to stay. The generic hand-held drone needs to go, or at least make it a perk or something instead. And they must implement something like a camo system. If games as far back to Snake Eater can have it, a modern game should have it. I pray they will nail a 3rd installment. Return to what Ghosts felt like, and what Ghost Recon games were.

Okay, I'm gonna operate under the assumption that immersive mode does not yet exist, like it didn't when you made this video. Parts of this information will be heavily outdated because the current version of the game transforms the conversation so much that you'd have to make an entirely new critique Every time you take an injury your character is heavily staggered. Enemies cannot be injured and will instead stagger lightly after surpassing a certain damage threshold, just enough to rush them down for melee in very close quarters. This affects your movement speed and aim sway. If you take *another* injury you will be unable to sprint or use primary weapons, but it's almost impossible for this to happen because their chance to occur is so low, even on the highest difficulty. You can also heal injuries using bandages, which is much slower and requires you stop moving. The animations are very intense and uncomfortable, and the emergency heal when you enter a bivouac while injured is even more so. You have to explore and collect medicinal plants to craft more. Aside from self-imposed rules there's no reason to use them because syringes are so plentiful and powerful You can craft in the pause menu at any time! This is another common target of style-imposed rules. As if it weren't difficult enough to run out of resources already thanks to your ability to craft even the most advanced equipment from random junk, you can replenish your supply even in the middle of a gunfight by pausing the action and holding A six times in a menu screen. Co op disabling the ability to pause the game helps only slightly since all you have to do is retreat into hard cover before managing your inventory There are exactly two variables involved in enemy detection: Distance and stance. It doesn't matter if you shoot, throw a grenade, stab someone in the neck, or dance a jig while under enemy sightlines, they just won't detect you any faster. This is part of what makes them look so brain dead. The Hollywood-quiet suppressors don't help their lack of reactivity either. You can snipe three of their friends standing right next to them and as long as you jump back into prone camo fast enough the most they'll do is go "Huh?"

But is it fun to play? That comes down to opinion and mine is yes, absolutely. You and others that hate on the game seem to be stuck in your nostalgia for an old outdated style of game. Wildlands and breakpoint are more fun than any previous title. Dare I say it: Breakpoint is even better and has me playing and engaged way more than even wildlands ever did. Side note. Your review contradicts itself several times.

@mrdoubleyew63405 жыл бұрын
Is it fun to play? Yes, that is completely subjective. I grinded through this game, and it really wasn't my cup of tea. I gave it a fair chance. Like I mentioned in the video, I felt it borrowed too much from other games that have done the 'hostile open world thing' way better (I feel the same way about Wildlands), and there wasn't anything compelling that kept me playing after I finished recording. Perhaps it may just be my nostalgia, but playing through Breakpoint really just made me want to revisit GRAW, and when I did, I realized a lot of what Breakpoint was missing. I believe those games are far more refined in just about all their aspects.
