Somehow. I've only just watched Some Mother's Son. This song is haunting and beautiful. I can't believe I'm only hearing it now for the first time. They will never win. Tiocfaidh ar lá.

Some how, i punch in one word and transition from Texas music (Freddie Fender) to HHF!. i had the awesome experience to catch them in downtown Denver, CO, USA - summer of 1993. Free show, city park of some sort, and one band member didn't have passport. End Result! Great Show, and i have been a Hot House Fan ever since! Love to all the fans and to the power of music! Some Mother's Son was the first Irish movie i watched way back in 1999 and it was this movie that got me interested in the history of Northern Ireland and the IRA. As someone wrote,"There would be no IRA if there was no British oppression".

The definition of cultural appropriation: Taking a folk song from Louisiana... Slap an Irish twist on it because of a pop cover in the 70s that had marginal success... Throw up a picture of the Irish coastline despite the song literally being set in the Louisiana swamps... Then pass it off as if everything about what I just wrote was normal.

Would there even be folk songs from Louisiana if it wasn't musicians from one genre finding inspiration from musicians of another? This a respectful rendition by some excellent performers. Try to enjoy!

Let's focus on the music. I would like to know the name of the vocal technique ms. mcevoy conquers at the opening. It pulses with different strengths. I know it's bagpipe...ish. Anyone know the name of the vocal technique?
@shelleysalvatore70582 жыл бұрын
I believe it's Gregorian chant, similar to Dolores from The Cranberries

Are you retarded? It must be some kind of ululation. Anybody.? Bueller ?

Pretty sure it's the Irish version of a bagpipe, the Uillean pipe (which means something like "inflatable")

Not sure exactly why as a Jewish man I love and adore the Irish. I grew up in an Irish neighborhood and was treated with such love and kindness by them. It saddens me to see these wonderful people killing each other. I love their heritage, strength, music, looks, accents. Before I die I must go to Ireland. I feel such a kinship with the Irish. I wish I was Irish.

The man from Strabane (Brady) does an excellent version but this is tops! The sax and piano steals it.

All that green is so overwhelming and so soothing. Eleanor can sing and one of the best. She needs to come over the US and kick butt on some of these autotuned jerk faces.

Really nice version, but its cadence and rhythm is exactly like Paul Bradys version. Think Paul bradys version is what made this song what it is.

This is a clean, complete, version of Paul Brady's interpretation of Pontchartrain. And it's great. But I happen to have a version done during RTE's (Irish TV Channel) feature on Paul Brady entitled "Echoes & Abstracts" (early '90's) where he's in the corner of a partially completed industrial bay, minimal equipment, in an oul coat, and with a slightly truncated song version - and it's wonderful. Lovingly translated by me from VHS to computer. Goes to prove, whatever the background, just give him a guitar and let him off!. And I often listen back to back with Aoife O'Donovan's version - just to get a complete picture. That girl from Pontchartrain must have been the real thing!
