The PS2 version isn't just running at "480i", it's running at 320 x 480i. Half the vertical resolution of the Dreamcast version and less than half the vertical resolution of Virtua Fighter 2 and Dead or Alive for Sega Saturn. The best anti-aliasing the PS2 can do can't fix the jaggies of such low res models.

The PS1 and PS2 versions being so different is so bizarre to me haha. I had the N64 growing up.

These comparison videos make me laugh. I have to call bullshit on so many of them when they glaze the Xbox version. I have both versions of this game and my OG Xbox and my ps2 connected to the same crt tv.The face of Kaedi looks a lot sharper on my ps2 than it did in this comparison video. These videos always look like the image is zoomed in to show what you wouldn't see or notice when playing the game normally like what digital foundry often do in their comparison videos. I played 10 minutes of the Xbox version first then tried the ps2 version so the difference from the xbox version would be fresh in my mind so if the differences were big I would notice.The Xbox version looks softer and muddy, some have described it as looking more Matt.The ps2 version looked sharper kind of like how the ps4 pro version of Resi 2 remake looked sharper than the one x version. I think others have said that the backgrounds in the ps2 version are more detailed but the characters are said to have additional detail on the Xbox, not that you'd notice during actual gameplay. Also the dpad on the xbox isn't as responsive as the ps2 controller which is an important thing to mention since the game is controlled via d pad🤷 The tug of war system on the xbox version is more of an annoyance than an improvement so that feature is hardly a flex. There's a reason onimusha 2 and 3 were not on Xbox and the series only continued on ps2. The game didn't do well on xbox and was overall a much better experience to play on ps2. This whole Xbox vs ps2 false narrative about Xbox always being better forced me to get both consoles for every generation but the current gen only to find out that it's all a myth. I've wasted money buying inferior versions of the games by listening to people spout cliches about Xbox always looking better. Take vampyr for instance. I ran out and got the Xbox version for my one x only to find out it wasn't even 1440p and didn't have hdr. Now had I of bought the ps4 version it would have been 1440p.

PS2 always looked bkurry and dark to me. Dreamcast, Xbox, and Gamecube ganes always looked better.

Imho, the best graphics that you can obtain for this game is: PS2 version (Rayman Revolution) player on a PS2 emulator on a PC (PCSX2). It looks really sharp and smooth, sometimes I thought a was playing a modern retro-style game!!!

Grew up on the n64 version and thought that was the only version of it later I played the 3ds version shortly after launch. Now messing with emulation and after so many play throughs of the n64 version I’m excited to play through the ps2 version seeing how it is close enough to the originals and a bit of a remake with more added in. It’s already feeling like it’s my first time playing the game again! I’m so excited

mmm when we still played with the PS1 I played Dead or Alive 2 on Dreamcast which is a machine that churned out excellent conversions, perfect arcade titles or which in any case came close to the arcade counterpart, the XBOX version is actually a real remake that was able to bring back great several titles including this one. XBOX was a console overshadowed by the spotlight all on Playstation 2, PS2 was the trend of the moment and the best-selling console in the world but those who knew how to choose XBOX experienced a generation of exclusive titles with a power and therefore games that other consoles did not they could give you.

60fps breaks the final mission on one x and I don't think it's been fixed. The bug was present on pc as well but it was fixed.

My modified/modded original Xbox had way better frame rate than an Otherwise plain basic original Xbox provides. The frame rates it provided was Arguably just as good as 360 frame rate variation of cod 3. Maybe not 60, But from what I experience Way back when, it was near close. And in all honesty, The original Xbox that I grew up with always felt to be the superior version to Play Call of duty 3. Namely because of one term, "grittiness." Sure, the PlayStation 3 & 360 versions have better frame rate, But the graphics & Player models? Literally hurt my eyes. Everything You see & interact with is way too shiny. Not to mention Everybody & almost everything, Rather the Americans, Canadians, Germans, etc. the Next Gen ports Makes all characters & enemies Look like they're made out of clay & rubber. And the guns & weapons look like plastic toys in comparison. Whereas the old gen for my modified Xbox gave off an actual balance of Both good, near realistic grittiness In all the models/graphics. Rather Fighting as the Americans, Canadians, French, etc? every character, every movement, The gritty was for real to fit this world war shooter game on my modified OG Xbox & Even though there was a lot of Bollywood moments with the story. The remaining factor of pretty robust balance of dark tone graphics & atmospheric moments, Right amount of frame rate, to make it overall work so damn well so it doesn't look like a slideshow & Keep me invested with the actions & reactions to what's happening. Not to mention we don't have to put up with bogus control motion & having to shake the controller around, Simply rely on button prompts. My game never stuttered for even a moment, Everything ran smoothly & Not once did a polygon drop with the models throughout my whole playthrough. Especially During the levels near the end game where there are so many NPCs on screen, Which was honest to God Impressive. The Only exception Of HD included on the OG Xbox, Is in the story driven cutscenes. Where the HD models & nextgen graphics are only implemented cinematically To move story right along. And I'm honestly glad it stayed that way, And not for the rest of the game. Like I said earlier, it's the over the top shininess/Lighting graphics & God awful rubberized claymation HD modeling Of all the characters that just kills it for me. And I'm going to miss playing cod 3 on my modded Xbox. People can Shit on Cod 3 All they want, but It could still turn out to be an unappreciated gem if you know where to look & Actually play the game correctly To make it stand out.

So every game designed specifically for Dreamcast hardware doesn't run as well on another machine it wasn't at all designed for? Not surprised.

Don't know why people review old games in the present day or modern times and talk shit about the graphics or game mechanics from 20+ years ago🤦‍♂️. It was like 2001 when this game came out. The reason you thought it looked good back then is because it did🤷. You, like most gamers today, are probably playing old systems on current hardware and wondering why the games don't look good….It's because you're playing on current hardware that they weren't designed for. Even a Nintendo 64 and older would still look decent and run well today when played on a CRT. People today will take a ps2 and blow it up on a flat screen TV with a backlight display and scratch their heads wondering why the games don't look good or run well and assume they were misremembering how good they thought those games were to begin with. Those games were good and still are when paired with the right hardware but more to the point it's asinine to look at old games through a present day lens. Max payne looked good, newer games look better.🤷 Nothing wrong with progress. You shouldn't shit on something just because something better or different comes along, though, which is effectively what you're doing here. I own 6th gen consoles, 7th gen consoles, 8th gen consoles and current gen consoles and I still play my PS2 and OG Xbox, more so than I do my current gen systems,I play them on the hardware they were designed for. I play them on a CRT and they run and look fine. When I play my 360 and PS3 I play them on a 1080p PlayStation simulview monitor, they run and look fine. When I play my newer systems I play them on a 4k TV, they run and look fine or at least how they are supposed to. Not rocket science. If I didn't own a CRT I wouldn't use retro systems at all, I would just play new shit as opposed to getting emulated versions or HD remasters and bitching about them not looking or running as good as they used to on original hardware🤷.

OG Xbox generally looks better on newer TVs than the ps2. I would be curious to see how the comparison video would have been if the games were running on a CRT since that's the best way to play PS2. For instance would the font look clear for the PS2 on the jackets if it were on a CRT? I only ask because I use a CRT for my older consoles. I have a PS2 and OG Xbox and I'm trying to work out which console to get this game for. I play on a 15 inch CRT.
