Son of a bitch. Knew I should have bought that chartreuse Chrystal flash earlier...something told me to get some black zonked strips, though. Love when you buy something random and within a day or two out of nowhere you have the perfect fly for it. Also, with it being black, I've got at least half a dozen colors I can use instead of green like orange, pink, purple red etc. These are going to absolutely kill lake erie steelhead. The white death zonker is famous amongst guys in my area to where it's one of the Flys associated with great lakes steelhead. Though in general blacks always been my go to. Cheerio!

So do you fish these? Under a bung static? Figure 8 retrieve? I’m new to fly fishing and brand new to tying. Best channel I’ve found for tying 👌🏻👌🏻

Thank you for the kind words. There are 2 very effective methods that I use, under the bung is certainly one of them, but my favourite is a sink-tip line and a hectic retrieve. Changing between stripping, figure eight, throw in a pause, and just make it as random and chaotic as possible. This tempts the trout to have a go even when they aren't feeding. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the message, these messages really motivate me to get back at it. I had all my gear stolen a while ago which has put a real dent in things. I'll be back making videos this year though and hopefully start a Patreon to help replace a lot of the gear I lost like my drone. Hopefully you are enjoying the content I have already posted and keep an eye out for the new videos coming soon Tight Lines.

The fly stealer must have been a member of the KFM (Kenyan Fly Mafia). That’s the name I’ve given these guys who continually try to contact me to purchase their flies. There must be a lot of them because I tell them that I’m not interested and that I tie several hundred dozen flies in a given year, but they keep trying. Question for the tyer: have you considered tying in small sizes on a jig hook ala Euro Style? You would likely have to switch to squirrel strips, but I imagine the pattern would be extremely effective. EDIT: I would certainly apply the dubbing with a dubbing loop. The body looks decent in the way the tyer would the dubbing on but the looseness of the dubbing will cause it to tear out after the fish’s teeth get ahold it. This will cause the over wing to loosen as well. Not a criticism, it’s just the way I would spin this up.
@UkFlyFisher
@UkFlyFisher 5 ай бұрын
I've tied them on size 14 jig hooks with a 3.2 mm tungsten slotted bead with small mink strips, but I'm sure squirrel would work great. I haven't tried them on the rivers yet, but definitely keen too. Have you given them a go?

silicone boxes way too heavy for my tastes..all the gear adds up, i try to keep things light I do like one box, but foam.
@UkFlyFisher
@UkFlyFisher 8 ай бұрын
That is very interesting. I think this may be more of a mental block though, as the fish pond double haul box I use weighs 216g, for a cheap foam box that all companies tend to sell you are looking at about 145g. However, the box holds less than half the amount of flies as the double haul box. This means that to carry the same amount of flies I'm looking at about 360g in foam and 216g in silicon. With the benefits of no dye leaks or rusty hooks. Tbh, myself, if I'm carrying 1 box and you find a box that is 145g in foam that carries the same amount of flies as the 216g in silicone The silicone wins every day due to the extra benefits and longevity. The 71g is not even going to be noticeable with 1 box.

There have been a few times in recent years when leaves have been on the trees until December. As you can tell this was filmed in November and was filmed to give you the tips and tricks you would need for the following winter months. After receiving many messages as a result of this video I know that the video worked as intended and I hope you enjoyed it as much as others did. :)

Hi Gareth………..Thank you for all your video’s. I am finding them very enjoyable and informative to watch. I am 80+ years and just getting back into Trout Flytying After many years. I have typed som Black Mamba flies but not sure if I have got The proportions correct. I have tied them on the same hook as you ( Fulling Mill Nymph Size 8 ) My Crystal Flash tail is just over 1/2” in length and the Rabbitt Zonker Strip measures overall 2”. Can you please confirm these measurements or should they be Slightly longer……Cannot remember tying this type of fly before. Thanking you and please keep the video’s coming……🐟🐟🐟

This was a great beginners kit for a great price. kzbin.infoUgkxKRURvLsu9Vvyw7gIuvt8FsApoQNCdz-1 Its given us a huge variety to test out and see what works well and what we like to use. Majority of the flies have stayed together well, but some of the rainbow warriors did unravel after catching a few blue gill. All in all, this was a great kit and are so happy with the purchase and value for money.
