This was a great beginners kit for a great price. kzbin.infoUgkxKRURvLsu9Vvyw7gIuvt8FsApoQNCdz-1 Its given us a huge variety to test out and see what works well and what we like to use. Majority of the flies have stayed together well, but some of the rainbow warriors did unravel after catching a few blue gill. All in all, this was a great kit and are so happy with the purchase and value for money.

Tied up a few variations of this fly. Purple uv ice dub, purple rabbit strip, black fur and purple uv ice dub etc...the water is fairly murky as it's the runoff season here in Colorado. Took two rods. One for nymphing and my streamer rod. This fly killed it when nothing else was even getting any action. Highly recommend this recipe!!! Thank you. The trout do not...

Best fly in my box. Saved me blanks and caught me my bigger fish. Just think how many fish you would catch if you didn't spend most of your day going round helping others. I still remember the beginning of our friendship which was by me constantly badgering you on tips and tricks. When I first started and was blanking I would phone or text you for advice. Who knew that would be the beginning of something amazing. We will all keep helping those that need it. You know how my job involves helping traumatised young people and how fly fishing has helped some of these young people. Thanks to you and your kindness.

It also shows through the great friendship we now have, how when it comes to fly fishing, it doesn't matter what walk of life you come from. We are all there to enjoy our great sport. It's even more enjoyable with friends and I certainly enjoy wetting a fly with you. Happy new year. I look forward to our next outing.

Hi Gareth, when I had a deer farm at Hamurana in Rotorua New Zealand in 1988, I would do a lot of night fishing (22.00 - 24.00hrs) on the river mouths of the Rotorua region’s many lakes for Rainbow and Brown trout. I tied a similar fly but used a #2 long hook, fluro body, red tail and black marabou. If I could get a black cat skin (road kill) I would use that as it would make the best night fly ever. Love your modern methods and will tie some to use on our winter run Steelheads. Cheers mate. Harera..

@@UkFlyFisher Hi Uk, going fishing next month for a week on the Tongariro River (the one that Zane Grey made famous) as the Brown Trout jacks will be starting their runs from Lake Taupo to their spawning grounds up the rivers. Last year we had one of the best seasons and my son caught his biggest brownie of well over 12 pounds and we were catching anything up to eight a day all over the six pound mark. The high point for us was that they were all magnificent fish, deep in belly and wide in girth, so we are hoping for the same. The big Steelheads will start running when the snow starts to cover the volcanos in July onwards. Its all go for us oldies! Harera

Good lure pattern. I tied a few of these over the recent cold snap and got to try them out on a local fishery this week. I caught my biggest ever rainbow trout on a chartreuse and blue zonker variant of the mamba so am going to tie up a few more black and variants today. I hope your suggestion that the fly stimulates an aggressive response in trout is proved over time but the pattern is certainly off to a good start with me. Thanks for the video.

The fly stealer must have been a member of the KFM (Kenyan Fly Mafia). That’s the name I’ve given these guys who continually try to contact me to purchase their flies. There must be a lot of them because I tell them that I’m not interested and that I tie several hundred dozen flies in a given year, but they keep trying. Question for the tyer: have you considered tying in small sizes on a jig hook ala Euro Style? You would likely have to switch to squirrel strips, but I imagine the pattern would be extremely effective. EDIT: I would certainly apply the dubbing with a dubbing loop. The body looks decent in the way the tyer would the dubbing on but the looseness of the dubbing will cause it to tear out after the fish’s teeth get ahold it. This will cause the over wing to loosen as well. Not a criticism, it’s just the way I would spin this up.
@UkFlyFisher10 ай бұрын
I've tied them on size 14 jig hooks with a 3.2 mm tungsten slotted bead with small mink strips, but I'm sure squirrel would work great. I haven't tried them on the rivers yet, but definitely keen too. Have you given them a go?

@UkFlyFisher4 жыл бұрын
I will do a full video on this. The standard version is best fished on a sink tip or intermediate. A faster retrieve often works from September to April. Slow figure eight and twitchy retrieves in the summer months. When stalking with it I use a floating line. Usually, on my 8-foot rod, so I can get between trees and sneak up on the fish.

@mikekuczynski15524 жыл бұрын
We use the streamers a few ways out in the west , from a drift boat , wading and under an indicator . From a boat or wading you can use a 6wt for smaller streamers like wooly budgets , leaches zonkers etc . I prefer to use an 8wt like a TFO BVK or Mangrove because lots of time I will be using a 10 to 12’ sink tip T-8 or T-11 then add 4’ Maxima leader 12 to 16 lb and we are throwing big articulated streamers 3 to 6” Long Sex Dungeons, Gongas etc. the 8wt just makes so much easier to turn all this junk over . I’m sure KZbin has a million ways to do it . Best way is come to Montana we can show U :-) Happy Trails

Hi Gareth. As the snow is coming down hard this weekend I’m indoors watching your videos and tying up some flies. It appears that the majority of the flies you fish are of the streamer variety. Can I ask which knot you use most for streamers? Do you prefer a loop type knot or a knot tightened down to the hook eye?
@UkFlyFisher4 жыл бұрын
Hi, I prefer a loop knot or a tucked blood knot. However this year I'll be learning the Trilene knot due to it being the strongest knot we can use with fluorocarbon. As for the flies I use, I use whatever the situation requires. Most of the time in the UK this is lures, but I do love dry fly and nymph fishing too. I'll be bringing out more videos this year than ever before going over a wide range of patterns, classic, modern and even a few of my own creations. Hope that helps. ATB Gareth

Brexit seems to have lead to a real lack of stock fly tying wise.

I think to simplify the tie just use the chartreuse thread for the whole fly as I do. Also a chartreuse bead works well. Nice tie!

I prefer the Black as when you tie the zonker strip in it looks better. I'm also starting to prefer a black rib too. Chartreuse and green beads work great, however, I've had more success with the black nickel bead and a chartreuse collar. Give them a go and let me know how you get on.

Hi Gareth ... all the best for 2021. Just out of interest what is the net you use with the weighing handle on it in your vids? Looking to get one myself Cheers thanks

It's a Macleans weigh net. They aren't cheap though. If I hadn't got it discounted i wouldn't have been able to afford it.

Hi Gareth! I would like to tie this fly, but i wonder of there is a similar hook i could use, because i live in sweden and Done have acces to fullingmill hooks. I also wonder how many mm the rabbitzonker you use is? Awesome fly btw😍🎣🧵 Best regards
