Creative midfielder on the left

A very good question. He was a very unique hybrid of a number 10 and a winger I'd say. I can't really find any other player to compare him with his style. He had insane intelligence, awareness, link up, vision passing... Was a great team player. Although he was a brillian dribbler and a highly skilled player, he never really forced one on one's, usually used clever link up, passing, off the ball movement to get himself into dangerous positions. Only dribbled when he had to and he was super efficient and comfortable there. His vision, passing and intelligence was up there with the best number 10's around, but what made him unique he also had the needed directness to drive forward with or withouth the ball on the flank. He was able to make runs on the flank, make crosses etc, but he would regularly drift inside to the middle and act as a midfielder, kinda lika a glue and, and would get himself and others too into dangerous positions. I never really considered him as a winger while he played, more like playmaker, altough, again he was both. He was also brilliant in getting into goalscoring positons, also very clinical in front of the goal (getting 14 league goals in 3 seasons in a row tells a everything). As a playmaker I'd say he had very similar style to Ozil, who was great off the ball (usually gets overlooked), and was very fluid in his movement, but didn't had Pires' finishing and stamina to really act as a winger (altough he did often play on the flank).
