This song truly reveals Naomi's inner torment. She was molested by at least two different men before age 12. That unhealed wound can leave a woman vulnerable to the consequences of bad choices because she is so hungry for love. Before too long, every bad choice feels like yet another rejection and the unanswered question, "Why?" Why don't they love me?" A woman as beautiful as Naomi sees her less attractive friends finding true love and settling down in happy marriages. Yet she herself, with amazing talent, intelligence, a heart of gold, and Hollywood good looks, is repeatedly abandoned. That feeling never leaves and becomes her lifelong battle with bouts of depression, a continuing struggle that she names, "Mr. Pain." Ashley Judd described seeing her mother behaving inappropriately with several men in their home, in front of her children, exhibiting conduct to which a minor should not be exposed. Then floods of guilt and shame for having done what she could not help doing. Naomi reliving her original trauma, "Mr. Pain." Naomi and Larry were "happily married" but "Mr. Pain" never left. That pain is a spiritual wound that only Jesus Christ can heal. It is the pain of "divorce" 10,000 times because every physical union followed by uncoupling is a tearing and separation of the flesh, soul, and spirit. "Mr Pain" affects both men and women as Phil Everly sings in "Last Thing on My Mind." kzbin.info/www/bejne/hWSViYeaq5JjppY Jesus Christ is the only healer.

I'd love to see a Hi Def (re-mastered) version of this. I bet in a few years, we'll be able to just upload a video like this & have it re-done in a matter of seconds. I hope so!

country music stopped being country in the late 90's Clay walker and all the real country singers are the last of the Greats in that genre Once 2000 hit , that genre went downhill and became more of POP than country

I kinda have this idea in my mind. A fantasie that God had come to us here on earth and sing to us about one way of life. And that this guy was him. And at the end of the song seeing his reaction from the humans made him so happy.

I really like Thom here. In the later video where he sings the updated parody version of this song, he comes off as a smug, angry a-hole. Please go back to the way you were, Thom.

Love this song so much. From the standpoint of construction, it reminds me of "Why have you left the one you left me for?" by arguably one of the most beautiful women in the history of Country Music. Paulette Carlson is also very attractive, even today!

I had a crush on her but it was on 8-track I really love that group because although they look modern they were very traditional when it came to country music I love their songs when they played the steel guitar thank you

I was working on a ranch on the outskirts of Las Vegas Nevada about 1984 the first time I heard this song I have 30 head of steers and about 22 head of horses that I was getting ready to feed in the bed you made for me. It was on a radio station that was call kfm 102 country station back in those days country music was really strong l i k e Merle Haggard said when the b u c k was still silver and the country was strong

Wynonna was an unruly brat when she was young. Nayomi bought her a cheapy guitar and taught her how to play it and that changed everything.
