I got a sorghum plate i want to use. The manual says to use a solid plate with it which i also have. Can anyone help me how to install the seed plate and the solid plate. I’m stumped. Thks

@@richardwhite3066 The solid plate installs underneath the sorghum plate in the hopper. The two should mesh together.

I'm using RL-16 for it's "temperature insensitive" characteristics and with Sierra 130 TGK, Peterson brass - still get a 96% load ratio and 2755 fps w/MOA accuracy. RL-17 got the 123gr over 3000 fps with W-W 243 brass (highest case capacity). I usually size REM 7-08 brass (in 7-08 dies) then neck turn prior to sizing down to 260 brass. Using the Bison Armory case capacity tool helps sort the brass minimizing Sd.

Your going to love the 264 win mag If you can find it a 700 rem , I've had both the 700 rem shot better and less recoil, but each to there own, out of 20+ years of guiding. Never had to have a follow up shot ever with it. 20+ elk no counting mule deer ,shooting a 130 gr hornidy

Are you able to shoot lighter bullets as well, say 40-50gr without issue? Im guessing 1:8 barreled Tikka not usual 1:14.

I bought my 1st 264 Win Mag in 1975. I went to work for Bill Wiseman (Wiseman/McMillan) Rifle barrels in 1982. I made the416R Stainless Barrel that is a 1:9 my choice. I have access to test tunnels and universal receivers. Why a 1:9. My Winchester Model 70 XTR is a long action. I chambered the rifle for the 120 Nosler Solid Base seated out to end of magazine + 0.025” to lands. Result was a rifle that will shoot 0.192 MOA avg 5 shot groups. The muzzle velocity is 3,376 FPS. The results it turns in on Pronghorn, Mule Deer, Whitetail, Sheep, and coyotes is spectacular! I have shot Pronghorn and deer and get baseball size holes thru both rib cages. Killed 2 bull elk with a 140 Partition. At ethical hunting distance there is no need for the change. The cartridge was never designed to be a target cartridge due to the heat and cleaning and cooling cycles. History of why the 1:9 twist. The gun was marketed in the 1950,s as a Western Plains game round. Scopes were fixed powered. This took some of the holdover guess work out. There were few choices in 6.5 mm bullets in the USA. There was also few powders slow enough to push the bullets. Therefore, Winchester came out with a 2 dimensional bullet. The 140 needed less twist to spin it. The rifle would also stabilize a 100 grain bullet at 3,600 fps. Back in the day shooters weren’t playing sniper and trying to either kill animals or steel at 1,000 yards Outside of a couple of military matches, example: Camp Perry. I big Weatherby cartridge fan as well for hunting. They always get the job done and rarely have to shoot anything twice. Why do they not change the 264? The cartridge has a short neck in order to shoot the long heavy bullets you would have to shoot them single shot due to magazine length restriction on a standard action or you give up case capacity. It would still probably outperform the 6.5 Needmore. If you are dying to have a super high velocity 6.5, then give the 6.5X300 Weatherby Magnum a try. Cartridge was winning 1,000 matches in the 60’s & 70’s as a wildcat. Big dose of US869 and you are there.

I've been shooting a 264 (couple of them) since the '80's. Great round, that simply got some bad press. Look at some of the newer, even more "overbore" cartridges that are a success. The creedmore mimics the 1891 designed swedish round in regard to performance. Rick Jamison once wrote an article about 5 factory rounds capable of passing 4000 fps. Cost me my first rebarrel, but put many long shot groundhogs to rest. I've since backed off the recently retired 85 gr sierra @ 3660.

It wasn’t Winchester’s marketing that was the death of the cartridge. It was gun writers writing that it was a barrel burner and nobody wanted it. Then Remington released the 7mm rem mag 4 years later in 1962. The 7mm had the ability to shoot 175 green bullet, and had more bullet options than the 264.

I think you should work with the 125gr loads more . Hornady 130gr shows Varget starting load at 44.4 gr going 2700 fps, 49gr going 2900 fps, 51.2 going 3000 and thats with a 130 gr sp bullet. These bullets would be great for Varmint. It looks like you are grouping ok just dial in a little more before blaming the bullet or powder.

I had to come with a quick coyote load for a thermal scoped Tikka 22-250 1/8 twist using the 60 gr vmax. I used Noslers most accurate powder/load of 36.5 gr of H380. Safe and apparently very accurate since I routinely bust them at 300+ yards. I have some doubts about your COL measurements. At 2.405 it's jammed up against the lands of the Tikka. My COL is 2.380.
