The OCSR normally runs steam power except for the fall foliage trains to Batterson that are usually diesel in October and November. However the 274 also serves as a backup engine if they don't have a steam engine available.

Trolleys were everywhere back in the day until they got rid of them for buses, automobiles and freeways.

This route was never a trolley line, it was used by the Red Electric interurban from 1914 to 1929. Freeways were still decades away, and Southern Pacific was not part of the "Great American Streetcar Scandal". Bottom line was SP wasn't making money off these trains.
