The Lofoten are easy to visit by car and by doing day hikes. Basically every day of my Lofoten Crossing can be done as a day hike. Bus connection is also quite good and many hikes just start from the bus stops along the E10 main road. Accommodation can be a bit expensive in high season, so you could try sleeping in your car 😅 Winter is also a magical time in the Lofoten, but of course not so much hiking at that time. Thanks for watching! 🙏

@@Cary-cgc98 sleeping bag was synthetic (an older mammut "ajungilak kompakt spring"). i don't have condensation problems with the "hubba hubba" tent. at least it is not "dripping wet", like some other tents. but the outer "fly" had some moisture from inside some nights: day6/7 (the night before nusfjord, i mention it in the beginning of the day7 video), day7/8 (the cold night in ramberg) and day 8/9 (but there the tent was still wet from the previous night in ramberg, so not sure if the moisture was actually from night 8/9). the "hubba hubba" is rather open at the bottom, so the air circulation is good, especially with a little bit of wind. of course in colder temperatures it means that cold wind comes in from the bottom. but so far i felt ok, even in iceland with the cold winds.

I'm impressed that you are near the end of your the Lofoten Islands crossing, seems to be really hard! Especially with the heavy luggage. It's OK that you had to choose an alternative route at the end. Reine is a beautiful village, very well known among landscape photographers, not bad if you pass by it on the route. It wasn't easy either way. There are wonderful drone shots again 🤩 It's normal to be exhausted near the end. I felt like I was in top physical shape after my little WHW tour, but as soon as I got home my immune system gave up and since then I've had the worst cold in years (maybe I was just really worn out 😟) Thank you very much for the great video! There also seems to be a lot going on botanically in the short summer, you see so many flowers along the way. It's impressive what nature produces in such a barren area! In Scotland I was always looking for new types of moss with my app 😉 Regards!

Very hard hike, but I am already missing it... Such nice camping spots, legal, no ticks (haven't seen any), no bears 😅 The "legal" camping thing is a big plus for me, same than in Scotland. I don't really like the idea of "stealth camping", always worrying that an angry farmer kicks me out in the middle of the night... Oh and my body also "gave up" when I got home. It took a couple of weeks to recover the knee. Yesterday I ran/jogged for the first time without pain...

On your descent to the ferry the peaks all around were super atmospheric, wet with the rain and a bit of mist hanging in the air. Nice. There is a point at which the weight of a pack makes 'boulder hopping' impossible and it just becomes tough and dangerous, I sympathize. Well done.
@mgrallertАй бұрын
Yes it was definitely the heavy backpack. Lesson learned. I was fine with such a heavy bag on plenty of multi-day hikes before. But none of those hikes were in such a terrain than the Lofoten Crossing. I underestimated it and will do a better research on the expected terrain next time. The heavy bag caused all my problems (long days because of slow "speed", scratched legs from falling, feeling "scared" sometimes, missing the ferry...). I have an eye on the Madeira Crossing and will definitely pack lighter for that one.

I’m just back home from my Long Crossing. I too tweaked my last days of the trail and decided not to do stage 11 even though I stayed in Å for 3 nights. After the section from Vindstad along to Forsfjord and up to Tennesvatnet, I was done with this kind of steep, slippery, rough terrain, so instead of doing stage 11 I got the bus to Reine and did Reinebringen. It made sense to me and was a more enjoyable way to end the trail, even though it was very busy on Reinebringen. Was good to watch some of your videos before going. Thanks
@mgrallertАй бұрын
So you hiked "from Vindstad to Forsfjord and up to Tennesvatnet"? That was my original plan too. That part of the Lofoten crossing is still a mystery to me. No photos, no videos, no reports. I wish I could have filmed/documented it. Do you have photos of the way up from Forsfjord? How was that trail? I camped up there at Tennesvatnet (spoiler, end of next video) and looked down that trail, but can't tell how difficult it is.
@dantkrАй бұрын
@@mgrallert yes, when I asked the ticket guy on the ferry if he would stop at Forsfjord he replied “ No! Never!”😅 The walk round to Forsfjord is partly very rough and slippy. There’s a lot of boulder hopping and it’s slow going and arduous. I think it took me 1:45 to get to Forsfjord. 2 people who got off the ferry at the same time as me were about 45 minutes slower. The section up to Tennesvatnet was steep and in parts slippy and muddy. It was slow going as well. There were some parts to scramble and a set of ladders in there too. I took photos of the views to the fjords but none of the terrain. I’d compare the terrain on this section to the descent to Olderfjorden on the Svolvær - Kleppstad section.

@@dantkr "boulder hopping", "slippy and muddy", "scramble" and "ladders" sounds like another fun day of the lofoten crossing 😅I am glad about my decision then, because it started raining around 3pm. "MSR Hubba Hubba NX2". I have seen it on many campsites, so it is pretty common. I bought it for Iceland/Laugavegur because I was looking for something "doesn't die in strong winds". So far I couldn't test if it survives in a storm, because I was so lucky with the weather on my recent trips. It is a 2 person tent obviously. I don't want a 1 person tent, because I want my backpack to be inside and the bag is so big that it IS a second person...😂 Before that tent I used the "Vaude Hogan UL Argon 1-2P", which is a "1.5 person tent". I used it in Patagonia (no video) and Kungsleden (video on my channel). I never slept well in it because it felt too small, I had to "spoon" with my backpack... So... at the moment I am happy with my "Hubba Hubba" and I am not planning to change it. I don't see a lighter/smaller tent that is really "safe" and big enough for me.

@@SimonFoschinho really depends on the "level of comfort" you want to have. when people see my giant backpack they always say "buy a lighter tent". yes, I could safe some grams with a smaller tent, but I would also sleep much more miserable. Just watching now 👌 What do you use to record and what settings . my footage never looks as crisp as yours . 👍
@mgrallert2 ай бұрын
I use a Gopro Hero12. After experimenting a bit with the settings I now have it on "HDR" with "natural colors" and "medium" sharpness and "auto" whitebalance. It is a "fake HDR", Gopro does it somehow with software. I think very often the "Standard" mode is just fine. Also the "auto" whitebalance jumps around a lot, but as I am lazy I just pretend I don't see that 😅 In editing I sometimes "fix" whitebalance that looks too extreme to me. Also most of the time have to brighten up the footage, as Gopro likes to underexpose it. Which is a good thing though, better under- than overexpose. Gopro and all other actioncameras are tiny cameras with tiny sensors, so you always have to accept that it doesn't look like fullframe camera footage.

@@adventurousdavee The hero 11 and hero 12 should be nearly identical, from what I've read. Just the firmware had some upgrades, adding for example "hdr" and "gp-log", which is pure software/firmware and no hardware upgrade (if I researched that correct). I had the hero 10 before, so upgrading to the 12 gave me at least upgraded hardware. I was first excited about the "gp-log" but then disappointed after really using it. With my rather looong videos it took ages to edit, so I now switched to mostly "auto" settings which safes me so much time. I think your footage looks the same than mine, I can't tell much difference. However, for a real comparision we would have to export it from the same editing software with the same settings. I edit and export my 5.3videos in premiere pro as 4k, so downsizes a little bit. Then I export in the highest possible quality (based on what premierepro recommends as best youtube-4k-settings) which took 12hours for this video and resulted in a 15GB file (lol). The export runs a whole night for most of my videos. But my notebook isnt really the fastest anymore. It slowed down a lot with the 5.3 footage, it seems my graphics card cant decode it properly and so it has to be done with cpu/software which is much slower.... phew... should start a tech channel or a reaction channel, haha...

Hi! Yes it is all paid camping. Here is a good overview: laugavegurtrailguide.com/laugavegur-camping-guide/ I think the prices are a bit higher now, I think 2800 kr/person/night for the FÍ huts: www.fi.is/en/mountain-huts/terms-and-conditions The Volcano Huts Campground always costs a bit more, because it is not operated by FÍ. As a camper you are not allowed to go inside and use the kitchen of the hut. For campers there is usually a separated outside area for water/dishes. At some places you have to pay extra for a shower.
