These two groups both live in West Africa but they are both considered Genetically different >>>>> Bantu groups born with E1B1A Haplogroup DNA don't cut any markings in their skin while groups born with R1B Haplogroup DNA cuts marks on their skin.... West African isn't a Ethnicity... Bantu is, just like Nilotic People born with E1B1B Haplogroup DNA such as Kenyans, Sudanese, Lybians, Nubians, Ethiopians, Somalians, Rwandans also has their own culture.

African languages are not dying. There is no continent that has preserved it's indigenous languages like Africa. Only South East Asia comes close. Every other point you made I agree with.

I think high level cultural products on local languages would definitely boost the future of a language. Afrobeat has already done a great deal to cement Yoruba for the future and to make its presence visible on the world stage. Poetry, literature and music can really elevate a language's status. Korean has 100 times as many learners as it had 20 years ago, due to the recent wave of highly successful K-dramas and K-pop.
@aeafilmsuk
@aeafilmsuk 21 күн бұрын
Let’s see. When you look at the evolution of Afrobeat itself, it’s gradually becoming more and more English also compared to what it was a few years ago. There are a few exceptions in both Yoruba and Igbo but we’re talking about the languages being used beyond just colloquially and for the purpose of general communication.

School will always be sponsored by corporate interests. It is the parents' responsibility to teach and nourish the tribal language within your family. As sad as it is. Even if the government were to promote an African language for populist purposes, they would pick one and suppress the rest, just like they do in East Africa.

This is true, however I disagree when it comes to South Africa. Xhosa, Zulu, Venda, Tsonga and Afrikaans have academic status thus internationally recognised. E.g China has Zulu language studies in their universities because it's an academic language. These are languages spoken in South Africa and surrounding countries. The only other African language with academic status is Kiswahili. Education has been happening in SA in our languages (somewhat froze during Apartheid but now back),books have been published in out languages since late1800s and the languages. The other languages will also get academic status soon. Just a note: the Afrikaans language was made up by native Khoisan people not whites. The majority speakers are coloured people not whites. The language is 50%dutch and the rest is indigenous or made up). For 250 years before Apartheid the Afrikaaners referred to multi generationally mixed race people (40%Xhosa ancestry, 30% Khoisan ancestry, other especially Sotho and European) and their language was Afrikaans. When the settlers and Boers united, they appropriated the Afrikaans language and called themselves the Afrikaaners. They then labelled the real Afrikaaners coloured.

The survival of African languages, and for that matter any oppressed languages in colonial or neo-colonial circumstances, is deeply tied to economics. No one wants to forget their mother's language. But everyone would rather forget that language than take their last bite of food. To fight for the languages of oppressed people is to fight for their economic liberation. To do the one without the other is like fighting to flood your home so it won't burn.

It's funny how The US claims to be the expert when it comes to nationalities or races. Especially when they call White people "Caucasian" to me this is so strange because they don't come from Caucasus Region (this is actually an area where Armenia, Georgia and Azerbaidjan are, so These countries are called Caucasian countries and culturally they might not fit into the category of White european culture) for example Azerbaidjani fit more into the Turkic culture which is in part of Asia and Europe, and their language is more similar to Turkish. But the fact is, Caucasian does not mean White, it means a Person from Armenia, Georgia or Azerbaidjan, with distinct cultures from European ones. White people in the US are not "Caucasian" they are just people of European descent.

At some point the people themselves have to pique interest in the messages that people such as yourself are spreading. It's as if you guys are amplifying said messages but aside from those who are locked in, or already in the knowing, no one is listening. Efforts are falling on deaf ears. It then begs the question of what will it take for the majority - the least demand, of the population to get on board? As for a collective pan-africanist economic model, I can't envision its creation being spearheaded from the top, unless those who occupy said top are forced to do so.

My sister, we are the only continent which doesn’t value our indigenous religions. That counts for something! Islam in West Africa is slightly different though, because it’s indigenised by our people and wasn’t rammed down our throats like Christianity.
