I doubt children are suffering more today. Its just that its measured and reported more through social media. I think tge minute I was told to put my my mobile down, I shut down. 25 is years is a long time ago. Pity this speaker didn't share her newest research and the whole presentation is so school-teachery for me.

Beautiful conversation. So, 1.when you attack and defend you are sitting in the jackel chair 🪑. 2.when you whip yourself and blame yourself, you are a hedgehog 🦔. The object is whip here. You think 🤔: I'm wrong, weak and I deserve nothing. 3. When you wait and pause ⏸️, you are sitting in the meerkat chair. You decide to avoid reacting and try to respond thoughtfully. 4. The Dolphin 🐬 chair. When you speak up for yourself reasonably, not out of anger and resentment. Here you are wise and intelligent 🧠. 5. Giraffe 🦒 chair. Here you show empathy and compassion. You try to understand their feelings and triggers, needs and wishes. You love 💕 people and observe their content and context.

It is not only possible to have both happy people and great results that drive a profitable company, but it is not possible to have one without the other. Yeah! That is what Ron Carucci is highlighting here: "15 years of research clearly say that the companies where people are thriving, where there is an ethic of care, where there is an ethic of justice... those companies on any metric you would care about profitability, brand loyalty, market share, earnings per share of your public trading company, employee loyalty, employee engagement, and retention, consumer loyalty far outperformed their competitors not even by small margins but by significant margins, they far outperform. So what that is suggesting is that if you want to have a workforce where you have long-term sustained performance, anybody can ring out blood from a stone for a couple of quarters, but at some point that is gonna come back to bite you badly and today it's happening faster.. so if you want long-term sustained performance, competitive distinction from those whose customers might choose over you the only path to that is a Workforce that is thriving, joyful, committed, learning, connected, model by your leadership as vulnerable, curious, empathic, accountable, ... We have a lot of confusion about accountability and care, as though they are opposing forces once again, you can't have one without the other. Accountability that is not caring is no accountability at all... it's abuse. Care that has no accountability is ruinous empathy, it's caretaking, .... people want to do better, and people want to improve and you have the information to help them do that you are obligated to share it. That is care and accountability."

Ron is highlighting that it is important to be aware that there is an impact gap, between the impact that we intend to generate and the actual impact that we might be generating. "As humans, we are all notoriously bad observers of our own reality, this is heightened for leaders because they are so visible. They live their lives on a Jumbotron, they have a megaphone strapped to their mouth 24 7, and everything they say and do is amplified and misinterpreted... you have to have extra eyes to help you see what you are not able to see yourself". From a heart-based leadership perspective, he is pointing to the need to cultivate our self-awareness and external self-awareness... this is to be intentionally open to others' feedback and perspectives to keep ourselves truly accountable. This is, building up the emotional heart muscles.

A most interesting and insightful discussion on the most important topic for Organisations today. We are all at the entry portal to a brave new world, just as our predecessors were as they transitioned into the Agricultural Revolution, then the Industrial Revolution and then the Technical Revolution. All involved massive amounts of change combined with tsunami like paradigm shifts causing anxiety and varying degrees of uncomfortableness. However we evolved to where we are today and with conversations like this one we will evolve to a much better tomorrow. Thank you so very much.
