New to climbing. I was interested in an adjustable bridge, but was recommended against it. I'm curious what your thoughts are, 5 years later?
@arboricole
@arboricole Жыл бұрын
Yeah, I no longer run an adjustable bridge. I have moved to incorporating suspenders which have a pretty dialed tending point for rope walking. This keeps me from fiddling with bridge lengths. However, if you do more MRS/DdRT (Moving Rope System) you might benefit from an adjustable bridge to help you drop below your system to the point where you can really haul yourself up a tree. I guess what I'm saying is I no longer see the advantage of shortening a standard bridge when rope walking, but an adjustable bridge could come in handy using longer than standard bridge lengths. Hope that helps. If you are new to climbing I would highly recommend Treebuzz.com as a great resource. I learned a lot from the forums there.

what is the 3:1 haul back you mentioned at the start as an option with your roll n lock setup? i'm not from arb industry, all this is new to me, we pretty much just use a grillion in comms
@arboricole
@arboricole 3 жыл бұрын
The Roll n Lock is a rope grab, so I take it off my rope bridge and put it up higher on my climb line and send the tail of my line up and back to me through the quickie - creating a mechanical advantage lifting system. So, further explaining this: On a single line I am hanging mid line on my multicender/climbing device. I get zero mechanical advantage hanging on a single line, so I take the tail end of my line (below my climbing device) and affix it to my climbing line above my climbing device using the roll n lock and quickie combo. The Roll N Lock grabs the line and the quickie has the moving tail part of my line. Now if I pull on the tail it pulls up on my climbing device and moves me up the tree with a 3:1 system. Does that make sense? I can then move the Roll n lock up the line ahead of me creating more of the system as I ascend.

Hi, I'm new to your channel, I'm interested in buy this device but I have a question for you... is this device finicky with ropes like the rope runner or the akimbo? or can handle almost any type and size ropes, the reason for my question is that one of the reasons that I don't like about the akimbo and the RR, they are so strict with ropes and for me... I work in (South America) where we don't have the luxury of buying special ropes for these mechanical devices, I'm hoping I can buy something that's more bomb proof and it can handle many rope types and sizes. thank you - Gene
@arboricole
@arboricole 5 жыл бұрын
Tree Time - all mechanicals have to be set to the type of rope used. The diameter makes a huge difference in the performance. Gordon, the guy who makes the Bulldog Bone, now makes them adjustable to allow the user to configure the device to the rope in use. I would think the Akimbo would be similarly configured. The Bulldog Bone that I have in this video has 3 different bollards that the user can install depending on what diameter rope you pair it with. As far as I know there is no device that can use any type of rope without having to make some sort of adjustments to the way it handles friction. The Rope Runner also can be adjusted to fit the rope being used. With all mechanicals, once you find the rope that works well you can keep it set to that rope and not have to make adjustments as long as you are using that rope. Have you tried the Akimbo or the Rope Runner? Do they not work with the ropes you have access to? The great thing about the Bulldog Bone and it’s creator Gordon is that he could probably tweak the device to work for any circumstance. He is actively engaged in the whole process of making the device right for you. I would send him a message and tell him your situation to see whether he thinks it would work for you. Or if he could make it work for you. I think you would love the Bulldog Bone and I hope it works out for you. Contact Gordon: [email protected]

What tool did you use to initially undo the quickie and also how do you have the ring attached to your saddle?
@arboricole
@arboricole 6 жыл бұрын
I used a tool that I designed called the Slic-Key, but, with the updated slic-pins that are now a larger diameter, the tool only works with the Rope Runner and Rope Wrench. I use an original older style pin with my quickie so my tool still works with my quickie. You can find one here: www.sheltertree.com/1990-36440/srt/climbing-gear_ascent-descent_srt/slic-key-slider.aspx Also, I attached the ring to my Tree Motion with a bit of paracord. Linked it back to one of the hole attachment points. There may be a better way, but it works for me.

What did the owner of the tree wanted
@arboricole
@arboricole 6 жыл бұрын
Luc Fournier they wanted us to correct the tree after it had been improperly pruned in years past. We look to get the tree back to a somewhat manageable state. Thin the weed-like growth back to more natural unions. Reduce the load the extended shoots put on the weakened decaying stubs. Remove deadwood and establish branches to take on the dominant role. Basically make the tree look like a tree again. We have had a lot of success to this kind of restoration pruning on trees that have been topped.
