When I do steep turns I always add two slaps of trim. When I turn wings level I have to give a good amount of forward pressure to maintain altitude

I'll never forget having an iced elevator stuck at about a 15° upward angle. I immediately declared an emergency and tower replied "all options available". This was in a fully ice-certified aircraft and recently sprayed down. I'm glad I declared, and would do the same if it happened again.

Great video thanks Nathan more trim awareness should get out there. I had a full nose down trim run away in an Eaglet. The forces on the stick was alarming and I was worried about damage or departure from the control system while I was trying to overcome the electrical malfunction, note the Eaglet has a full flying tail plane

I think round two of this topic is going to be exploring the force needed in different airplanes, like your eaglet experience, and then something bigger and faster than a 172. Thank you so much for sharing your story, I very much appreciate it!

Which eaglet was that? The Tecnam or the AE?
@stevel1451
@stevel1451 Ай бұрын
It is a Tecnam, I have almost completed an Explorer taildrager kit, I am removing the installed electric trim and fitting a manual set up. Most likely a wheel like some GAs

Very well done! Great points! I have to say I don’t use trim much. I know trim settings play a massive role in higher powered airplanes!

One thing I do to protect my health before flying is wearing a good pair of nitrile gloves while checking the fuel sumps. On a 172S, there are 13 fuel sumps and you will invariably get fuel on your hands during the pre-flight, especially if it's windy. Tetraethyllead (the lead additive in 100LL) passes right through the skin on contact, so getting it on your hands is definitely something you want to avoid, but surprisingly I rarely see pilots wearing gloves when they sump fuel.

I just learned a bit about this. If you slow down the force is less. This will buy you time to get circuit breakers pulled or getting away from the ground

On a crosswind landing I had to do a go around and when I went full power the nose went straight up. Caught it in time and got the nose pushed over. It’s a very real threat so now I don’t trim as aggressively on landing. I do a lot of go arounds. White tail deer will keep you on your toes ! Great Video Nathen

GA q... why does ATC insist making ga ac do 360° circles in pattern trying to land bc of busy traffic w mixed in corp jets .. ofcourse favoring the richazzzjets get all priority to land first. this is Class D .. Does FAA ATC towers do this everywhere now ? or just my area Boston? ithink ctrlrs just be bad and lazy cant separate traffic very good plain lazy and incompetent. Doing 360° turns circles at 1000'agl is very risky dangerous bad bad.. too much going on.. lot of student pilots or ga practicing touchandgos going on. Most stupid unsafe thing ATC could do doing this now alot I hear it 5-10x perday.. some same ac they tell do it 2x in row b4 can land. outofcobtrol .Accident deadly fatal A waiting to happen ATC could easily say extend dw or do S turns or tell jets slow up.. or tell ga ac stay outside classD area will call you and ga can circle at safe 2000'+ away in unbusy sky.. not inside the pattern. ! omg smfh You ever see run onto this any airports ?
