I have the xr4 19m2. And I have to say I absolutely love it. I'm 80kg and in 9-10knts and I can practice my wakestyle tricks. I do like to be well powered up, usually riding a size bigger as guys 20kg heavier. It actually jumps really well too. Such fun flying away when some can't even enter the water 🤪 (tt) I hope they'll keep producing 19 meters🤞 Many are too scared they can't hold them and they should just go for it 😌

You made a mistake with the wind window shift! It’s supposed to be shifting the opposite direction as you generate more aparent wind! That’s how your kite stays in the wind window and you can keep directing it upwind. But other than that I totally finally understood the physics behind riding upwind so thank you 🙏

Wow! Managed the waterstart yesterday and, coming from Snowboarding, it felt exactly as you described! I will try your tipps. Especially the one with "relaxing the feet to the body" is very interesting. Thanks!

My experince (59 years old) is that I came back from a 2.5 month kitesurfing trip. Even though I did ZERO HIT or cardio, I came back with far greater cardio capability. I spent many hours on the water. It turned out that kiteboarding was the best training I had ever done. It even improved my mountain biking much more than mountain biking does. I am not a competitive kiteboarder (or anything for that matter) but I don't understand training for kiteboarding as kiteboarding is the best training I have ever done based upon results.

I want to go to Tarifa and enhance my kiting skills but I am terrified of sharks, heard that was a place where lots of sharks are, is that a problem for you guys or not at all?

My story: Dive the kite, scramble onto the board, steer the kite back up, then stop working the kite, lose traction, and fall back into the water. Repeat this ad nauseam, growing more and more desperate as other surfers whiz past me with happy smiles.

This sport takes a lot of practice and a lot of perseverance. I have been working at it for a year and am just now at the point where i feel some confidence in launching, body dragging, water starts and basic riding. It can be tedious, but the more you practice the more your body will remember for the next session. I have found that location is everything when getting started. Don’t put yourself out it the surf right away. Go to the beach and just practice launching and body dragging… leave the board at home. Then find some protected water with very little current and start there. Your board wont get swept away and your body positioning will become second nature. Only then venture out into the wild blue as your skills improve.

Fantastic discussion! I got into Kitesurfing a few months ago and have already experienced that state a handful of times. The first time was on my very first lesson when the instructor put the kite on my harness and I felt the power and connection to the kite and the wind. Although it was brief, it was an incredible sensation and time seemed to stop at that moment. The second time was on my first solo session, the wind was light and gusty and I was struggling to board start. I was tired and cursing myself but then suddenly something magical happened and I was on my board and riding effortlessly. At that moment I felt the connection and intense state of awareness and time disappeared for a brief moment.. I've experienced this state in other sports before (rock climbing, skateboarding, sailing) but with kitesurfing it's on another level! 🤙

Great explanation. One comment. More you are ridding upwind the aparent wind changing the diriction closer to the real wind (vector of real wind is increasing with the part of small induce upwind vector) and the wind window changing too, closer to the real windwindow but the angle between aparent wind and the ridding direction is increasing and the resistance of the water increasing too. Means that you cannot changing the direction without limits. Changing the direction more to the upwind direction induce more water resistance but increasing part of the induce wind consistent to the real wind direction - thats one of the point of light wind riding too :D.

Interesting. The diff between wide vs narrow board sound similar to the diff between long vs short surfboards.

Hi. What size kite should a complete beginner at 63kls use at around 15 - 20knots. I'm struggling like heck with an 8m kite on 8m lines in only 15knots

This sounds like the few first rides of the year in motocross ;) Takes about three or four rides before it becomes better, and of course stay fit in the winter days. But no matter how fit you are, riding the bike is different and all of your muscles are sore. You get used to it, knowing it will be better in a few weeks 😂😂😂

Regretfully the current link doesn't work anymore. Very interesting stuff in this video. Running is a specific one for me as well, have been riding motocross all my life, a sport that's already hard on knees, I always learned running puts more stress on the knees, so I never did it. What I liked most is rowing, because I could do a nice workout in a relatively short time, and it uses more than one muscle group at a time. What's your view on rowing (rowing machine of course) ?
@wernerxldata

Found the same problems in training for motocross, normal programs are using to slow and heavy movement. It even seems to shorten muscles and make you less flexible. It’s often looks based training building big muscles where you need strong, fast and long lasting muscles. Most machines don’t offer the movements you make on a bike, same as the movements when kiting. Thanks for the belts tip, gonna order me a few

I tried very short lines but I couldn't even complete a loop from high in the sky. Even if I grabbed a steering line and pulled hard, the 14m kite would hit the water. I couldn't make sense of it.

52 years old now, still doing motocross, just started kitesurfing. Had enough little accidents but always wanted to continue. It got hardere the years and I do need training keep fit enough, rowing, spinning, walking. Not always fun but needed to stay fit. And don’t forget stretching a lot, yoga can be brilliant for this. My mind is still stuck in my 20ties, always in for some fun stuff. Never let anyone talk you out of being able do to fun stuff. I noticed people are trying. Many people tried to talk me out of still riding motocross at my age. Believe in yourself, just become a bit less competitive, it saves you from injuries, but keep on going. You can still go work in your garden when you’re 90 😂
