My experince (59 years old) is that I came back from a 2.5 month kitesurfing trip. Even though I did ZERO HIT or cardio, I came back with far greater cardio capability. I spent many hours on the water. It turned out that kiteboarding was the best training I had ever done. It even improved my mountain biking much more than mountain biking does. I am not a competitive kiteboarder (or anything for that matter) but I don't understand training for kiteboarding as kiteboarding is the best training I have ever done based upon results.

You are absolutely right, especially as you get older stay away from high amounts of steady state cardio, weight training is the key to muscle and bone density combined with a good nutrition plan (NOT vegan)

Regretfully the current link doesn't work anymore. Very interesting stuff in this video. Running is a specific one for me as well, have been riding motocross all my life, a sport that's already hard on knees, I always learned running puts more stress on the knees, so I never did it. What I liked most is rowing, because I could do a nice workout in a relatively short time, and it uses more than one muscle group at a time. What's your view on rowing (rowing machine of course) ?
