"Jet Set Willy" is VERY heavily inspired by "Equinoxe part 5" by Jarre

I keep thinking that the Atari 7800 would have done so much better had they used this chip instead of the 2600 sound chip.

A sound chip can be added inside the cartridge.

This track is ridiculously good - if it was made for an unreleased Atari Lemmings, it’s a tragedy so few people have heard it.

interesting in the mountain bike theme I notice the pulse width tone is played on the higher notes and I never heard that used much, from memory it was a bit tricky to find the in tune values lol sounds good here though, these are all good memorable themes some of the games where I used to just leave the title screen on to listen to the music all the way through

SID is like a full synthesizer and less limited but POKEY has a real clarity you can't get with SID, they're just different, you really had to work to make music on the atari nothing was done for you so it was all in the programming.
@6581punk2 жыл бұрын
Read about the long hours culture and limited time the C64 was developed in. It's amazing anything worked. The SID was never meant to be a three voice chip, what it ended up being was a last minute salvage of what worked. If it worked as Bob Yannes intended it would have been capable of 32 voices.
@tharkthax39602 жыл бұрын
@@6581punk yeah it could of been so much more, even the atari had tech they never released like the speech synthesis and advanced sound chips. I never understood why the c64 wasn't given a better colour pallette too. Still love what we have tho!
