Utah should just do some crazy stuff to mess with BYU. Throw in some option offense, just change it up so differently that BYU has to adjust and then throw in something else. Utah literally has nothing to lose and BYU has everything to lose. Go have fun Utah and Kyle let them go play some neighborhood football with some trick plays.

Now I understand why the other locked on Podcasters make fun of you so much JT. You talk of both sides of your mouth. The last time we beat you, you said, but we went on to win the conference so we were still better than you. And then you say if we beat BYU, they could go onto win the conference, but we could still say we were better than them. Make up your mind, buddy. Utah is a great football program, but let’s stop trying to twist everything in your favor.

The ONLY time I don't want the best for U of U Football is when they go against the Cougars. This is the one time I want to see them ground into red, white, and black dust. A Max Hall level of passion haha. With that said, I absolutely loved how the Utes waltzed into the PAC 12 and claimed ownership almost from the jump. Utah (the state) major football programs are doing a fantastic job making themselves relevant on a national level.

BYU fan here. I've always thought that Utah fans were better at this rivalry. I think it's because more of them grew up in the state, where the rivalry's in the air, in the water. As a BYU student from the east coast, I found it hard to get fired up because I hadn't lived with it. I knew about as much about Utah football as Utah fans know about Maryland.

Not to split hairs, JT, but your “better program” argument pretty clearly supports the idea that Utah HAS BEEN the better program. Nothing in what you said is forward-looking. I don’t know that you’re going to get much pushback on Utah being the better program during the Pac12/Indy era. But whatever talent disparity held over from that hasn’t helped Utah this year. What’s the rationale that it will carry forward now that league affiliation is equal? Also, what about KW’s coming retirement? And BYU’s showing some flex on NIL…What, exactly, is trending in Utah’s favor at this junction? I think this needs more time to see how things balance in the new normal. I don’t see how either side can claim program superiority at the moment. But if Ute fans wish to live on the past, that’s certainly something Cougar fans know a thing or two about. ;D

As an Utah fan/alum (and Iowa alum), I cheer for the Utes first and foremost. However, I’m befinately not a Y hater. If BYU wins the conference, for sure Id be cheering for them in the CFP. I also, perhaps surprisingly, am fine with Boise State (I live in the Treasure Valley) as I’ve had kids that have gone to both BYU (current Junior there) and BSU. I recognize that any fan base can have their ‘tools’ but most of my annoyance usually falls under my personal pride. I’d much prefer for the Utes to be in the position BYU is in, but if not Utah, I’m cool with it being the Cougars. Good luck Saturday.

@NapolesAlex not a big deal, but the Utes have two conference wins. Remember Baylor? The 2nd half of that game was the turning point for the Ute's season, period. Not going to say any "if only" statements. It is what it is. IMO, I'm hoping that Rose gets the nod for starting this game. The Utes have a history of winning this rivalry game with the lower rated QB of the two team's. Go Utes!

I seem to recall fans saying “we don’t even need this game”. “Utah has nothing to gain from playing the team down south”. When asked about the rivalry Whitt played dumb and asked “which rivalry? Oh you mean the instate rivalry with the team down south?” Which is it? Can this game save your season or is this just another game on the big 12 schedule?

Anyone else have any thoughts about how they're only giving 5 points for BYU to beat us? Is there any disrespect that will be fueling BYU's preparation for Saturday? When BYU was expected to lose by 5 (or was it less?) against UCF last week, it was pretty obvious that they were far superior compared to UCF. I guess stranger things have happened, but, I think that BYU will be making a lot of people a lot of money on Saturday. Thoughts?

We’re the Laughingstock of college football AND basketball! We had two decent seasons in the lowly PAC 12 and then our fans started pretending we were a respectable program. Our fans also started making toxic and delusional comments that have made us hated around the country. Our entire athletic program is collapsing. Donors are fleeing our NIL collective and our high school recruiting was in the 70’s last year (pathetic). It feels absolutely hopeless. Anyway, GO UTES‼️

It took Utah a decade to finally win the Pac12. A conference that was arguably a lot more top heavy than the Big12. The idea they were going to come in and absolutely manhandle the conference requires one to think the Pac12 has the same level of competition week in and week out as the Big12. It’s easy to say this in retrospect, but with the way the players and coaches and fans and media were talking preseason, I’m glad they’re where they’re at

You hit on it. When you focus on the outcome goal (Championship) and forget about the process you tend to get unfocused. Because lots can impact a championship. However, if you get 1% better everyday, it changes how you prep and recruit. Less instant gratification transfers and more development. Utah has been missing that the last few years. Look at BYU they got beat by Wisonsin a few years ago. Then beat em the next year. Same with Baylor. Then 5-7 last year into 8-0 this year. More importantly I see fixes to the issues they have systemically. Utah has a system problem, not a 1-off issue. I think Whitt will have to go in order to change that.

BYU is in a win/win situation. To have such massive success in only their second year in a power conference shows that they have been essentially a power 5 caliber level team throughout Independence. I think BYU had a rougher time as an independent because they could never become familiar with an opponent, and always had to prepare for the complete unknown week in week out. It made them very adaptable. I also think BYU will rise in popularity and athletic success because a lot of athletes and their parents don’t want to be part of Marxist, hedonist, training centers that so many other universities have become.

This is a massive game for each program. If BYU wins, they could start to gain ground on bigger in-state recruits, a continuation of national attention and a possible Big12 championship game. If Utah wins, they stop the bleeding and show they are still the best program in the state. Both teams are heading in opposite directions and a win means a lot for different reasons.

Hold up on all the panic. Kansas State just lost to Houston. BYU has been known to struggle in the 2nd half. This college football season as a whole has been wild. Vanderbilt beat Alabama. BYU last year was rough all year round, and they turned it around just this year. Things can change quicker than expected.
