I bought a 2008 Buick Lucerne CXL Special Edition with the 3.8L V6 at an auction in 2021. She had 85k, grandpa car for sure as I found hearing aid packets and the car reeked of old man cigar smoke. She has a little bit over 100k, best engine ever. I've had to change the coolant elbows, never knew those were a thing.

What is so bad about UTI & LT? You just said they suck. That is not saying anything. Besides the price.
@MJ100k
@MJ100k 8 сағат бұрын
Unless you’re rich …..The price IS the problem. Why would you pay 35-50,000 dollars to learn to become a mechanic when you could just go to community college for under around 10,000 or less? Some people even become mechanics without going to school at all… But I would recommend going to community college. At least for a few classes, even if you don’t finish the entire program. Think of this: If you ever try to get a house (or business loan)in the future -- they look at how much debt you owe compared to you income-- It’s called debt to income ratio: Less say you make 60k a year … but you owe 50k in debt…. That makes you much less likely to be approved as compared to someone who makes 60k and has 10k in debt. Also, people who have gone there tell me.. they didn’t learn much at those schools. They didn’t get a lot of time actually working on the cars.. and there teachers were not very helpful. If you want to go to a special bmw or Benz program after tech school.. Those programs also work with community colleges. There is NO advantage to paying more to go to Lincoln Tech or UTI! I made a whole playlist about this topic - it’s called UTI and Lincoln tech suck. Let me know if you have any questions.

One quirk with these cars is a ridiculous amount of dirt and leaves collects behind the fender well covers. You have to pull the covers and clean em out, every couple years. Even better if you hit them with some fluid film when you do it. It will keep the fenders and rocker panels from rotting out. I learned this the hard way recently on my 2011 cx. Now i am constantly on the search for some good fenders with matching paint code.

It’s not the first time that manufacturers collaborate with each other, Audi and Porsche, Alfa Romeo and Ferrari are all doing this. Many great cars get to exist because of collaboration. Otherwise, we can only buy dumb SUVs now. As for the Supra, I don’t believe Toyota currently has the resources and capacity to produce a better inline 6 than the B58. (Not saying they can’t, I mean realistically considering the time, money and resources that they can put into develop a new engine) and BMW didn’t just give a random engine to the Supra, I don’t think I need to reiterate the good reputation of B58 in 2024. You guys are privileged and spoiled by the fact that you can still buy a Supra.

The thing is, it’s a BMW engine, it doesn’t matter how good you think it is, Toyota guys don’t want it Period. We’ll see how reliable it is in about 8 to 10 years. Repair bills are going to be astronomical. Furthermore, it doesn’t even have to be an in-line six engine to begin with. The GTR was in line 6 and now it’s a V6 turbo but people still love it because it’s a Nissan. You don’t see Nissan going and asking Porsche to make an engine for the GTR do you? I think my plan would have been best if they simply re-badged an LC 500 and use that V8 engine. They could have just upgraded some of the internals to make it easier to modify.

I'd been saying the e92 335i was the unofficial replacement for the mk4 Supra for years. Fact is, BMW are just about the only company on earth now that build straight 6 turbo engines. Toyota don't. The 2JZ was an anomaly not the norm. Anyone buying a Supra wants a turbo 6 and it would cost a bomb to build one. Also, the Supra isnt an M4. It's qma Z4 40i so very little M4 parts. Engine is not the same. Gear box etc is not the same. And the price is nowhere near the same.

I think Toyota guys would have been a lot happier if they made the Supra - a Toyota version of the v8 Lexus LC500. Also, this would have saved a ton of money, not having to develop a straight 6 engine from scratch. The difference between a straight 6 and a v8 - is not as drastic as the difference between a Toyota and a BMW. Also, the LC500 looks WAY better than the BMW Supra. 👀

@MJ100k you don't know Supra guys then. It's all about the modding potential. You have literally nothing on a V8 NA and literally no limit on an already great B58 turbo lump. If you tried to market an NA to Supra fans, they'd turn their back on you immediately. I bet if they offered both a B58 and an NA V8, they'd sell more B58's Another problem with the Supra fans is that they don't actually know why the 2JZ was a great engine. Because of that, they're convinced nothing is as good. They don't understand that the B58 has many commonalities with the 2JZ, but on a far more modern scale so it meets all the regulations and minimum standards. And people are already easily getting 700+ horse power from them. It's a great engine. I have an M4 with the S55 but I doubt the B58 is particularly inferior at all and is safer to modify well past my 430hp

2006 engine block crack. Known problem.

The 8th gen Civic in the US includes 06-2011 model years The engine block problem you’re referring to only affected SOME (not all) 2006-2008 (with a-few early production 2009 Civics) There was a service bulletin issued by Honda to address this issue. Service Bulletin 10-048. The warranty was extended by 10 years with unlimited mileage. 1- This was a known issue that affected a limited number of engines. Not every engine or every year of the 8th gen was affected. 2- If the engine was affected, it’s likely that the owner got the engine replaced under the extended warranty already. Which would give you an engine with less miles on it, if you were to purchase one of the vehicles repaired under warranty. 3- If you are concerned or looking at buying a used Civic you can call a dealership and give them the vin number. They can look up to see if that vin was affected by the service bulletin. If it was affected and replaced then there is no worry. If it was affected and not repaired… you can simply avoid buying that particular Civic. However; this issue is already about 5 years past the 10 year extended warranty… If this problem was gonna happen, it probably would’ve happened years ago. 4- If you want to see examples of high mileage Civics of this generation you can easily visit cargurus. com and do a nationwide search. You’ll see many examples of Civics between 200 and 300k miles. I just looked and one at 350k. There is also a known 1 million mile Civic from this generation. But if you want to let an over 15 year old service bulletin, that extended the warranty by 10 years… that only even affected a limited amount of engines…. From a couple years of an entire generation of cars… that’s up to you 🤷‍♂️ Here is what the Bulletin says word by word below. With a direct link at the bottom: On some 2006-08 and early production 2009 Civics, the engine (cylinder) block may leak engine coolant, resulting in engine overheating. To increase customer confidence, American Honda is extending the warranty of the engine block to 10 years from the original date of purchase, with no mileage limit. static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2017/MC-10115157-9999.pdf

@@robsonrissotrainer I agree city miles are harder on a car than highway miles. What I questioned was your statement that there is 80 - 90 % less wear on a car driven mostly on the highway. I’m questioning the percentage you stated: not the fact itself. If there have been any formal studies that can back up the percentage you claimed I’d really like to see them. Maybe I’m wrong, 🤷‍♂️ but I think it’s probably closer to 50% less wear. This percentage would probably vary from vehicle to vehicle as well. When you compared you and your friend’s car. That is just anecdotal evidence. Sample size of n=2 You gave the equivalent of “Trust me bro” evidence.

You’re insane to think anyone should accept a short block repair to these trucks!… I own an $80,000 1794 limited edition and if you think I’m going to let some hack job technician tear my truck apart, including removing the cab and every other step involved with replacing this engine…yeah right… this truck will be gone before you can blink your eyes… It will never be put back together to factory condition!…period!…see ya tundra!…see ya Toyota!…I will fight for a buy back!!

If EV transition may take decades, will Rivian survive. It has a lot of debt and is incurring losses.

Great video, how about the 2003 rav4 any issues I should be looking for?
@MJ100k
@MJ100k 5 күн бұрын
I discussed a couple common problems for the second gen Rav 4 in the video beginning at time = 6:45. But really - a 2003 is over 20 years old at this point. All the common problems that were gonna happen probably already happened a decade ago. The majority of your problems will mostly be age related. I’d focus on the vehicle in front of you. If you’re looking to buy one - try and screen the previous owner the best you can. I’ve made many videos about how to do this in my - Car shopping with MJ playlist. Also make sure to have the car checked out by a mechanic before you buy it. You’re not looking for perfection … But you also must avoid a disaster. You can hire a mobile mechanic to go have a look at it right at the car lot. Hope that helps 👍💯
