Sounds to me like it’s a glitch in the rev limiter. Would be understandable if the ECM had been modded to bypass the rev-limiter but this should be impossible with factory programming. What happens if someone were to accidentally do this during a test drive?

Im not sure it’s possible for an ECM to prevent a person from downshifting into the wrong gear on a manual transmission. 🤔

Whether it’s possible or not to prevent a downshift is besides the point. The ECM should’ve activated the rev limiter, refused to open the throttle and either limited the pulse width of the injector or shut the fuel off entirely to preserve the engine. Refusing to open the throttle alone would’ve saved this powertrain.

Do you know of any manual transmission cars that have an ECM that prevents damage from money shifting ?

@@MJ100k I can say explicitly that I do but I can say out of almost 30 years of driving I’ve accidentally money shifted every car once and never resulted in a blown engine. Now I also haven’t been doing 100+ when trying to shift out of 4th but around 80 it seems like the synchros alone prevented that shift. You would have to purposely rpm match unless it was one hell of a lucky shot.

@@notme22 I wonder what would happen if you intentionally tried to money shift your car… hold on the gas for 10 seconds in the wrong gear … Are you confident you cars ECM would cut fuel/ close the throttle fast enough to avoid damage ? 🤔
