My house is probably held together by lathe and plaster 😂 shits strong
@alexandsimba14 күн бұрын
Only good thing about lath and plaster is how tough it is. I have multiple times bumped furniture into the wall and always it's the furniture that takes the damage. I would only recommend it for new construction with lots of pictures and drawings of where the HVAC, pipes, and electrical is for future homeowners to look at for repairs/hanging objects.

Signs of a craftsman house: NOT popcorn stucco siding!!!! It looks to me like a cheap house trying to look a little craftsman with some easy details (windows) that was then updated by someone who didn't know/care about craftsman details. Missing porch is a deal breaker!

A perfect example regarding the use of many paint colors used on these types of homes is The Painted Ladies in San Francisco. They're iconic.

There's no real hint of sentimentality to your presentation. It's good and informative and I believe you really enjoy these houses but don't you think it's time to ask Queen Anne's number and take her to dinner😂 . It's okay I just am used to people being kind of gushy gushy or overly sentimental about Victorian life. Even the people that are critical of the way people were treated back then have a way of making it dramatic even if they're looking at it through a melancholy lens. I enjoy all perspectives on a subject I'm fascinated about. Thank you

@@TomKaren94it wouldn't be impossible, someone could easily use it like that in construction, it was sold for builders to add it to all sorts of things. Though with old lathe and plaster made using animal hair, anthrax is a possible contaminant too.

Fun fact. Drywall molds as it’s mold food but plaster will not mold readily. Plaster breathes and plaster sets permanently
@TomKaren949 ай бұрын
There have been certain incidents of drywall from China experiencing mold because they did not treat it properly and it was later installed in Florida or other high humidity areas. Otherwise, unless the mold spores are introduced to the drywall and kept moist like in an unventilated bathroom mold is not a problem.
@toxicgracie37723 ай бұрын
Yep! I do mold remediation for a living and mold loves drywall as a food source like no other. Old plaster is usually ok but the wood lathe behind it and the studs themselves may have to be treated

Architect here....this isn't a craftsman home. Its out of the date range and isn't at all in the craftsman style. Even one of the example picture isn't a craftsman style. Lots of people who don't study this for a living will often get confused. Id say this was 30-40's built.

It's not really a craftsman house. Structure is as important as detail in craftsman, and this example is not in any way indicative of craftsman structure. It appears to me to be vernacular side-saltbox with craftsman details/sensibilities. Probably built in the 20's or 30's and trying to be fancier and up-to-date.

Why buy a house with a beautiful dining room only to change it into a bulge on the kitchen? Who in hell wants to entertain among dirty dishes and pots and pans? Your idea sucks. Buy a crummy mid century house that has no dining room. You'll love it.

You’re putting a duplex or townhouse right next to it? That ruins the entire block because no one wants to live next to those. You’re basically putting section 8 housing next to a historic building.

I'd love to see where y'all take this particular home style-wise, it sounds like we're doing similar things by keeping the OG style in mind but making it work for contemporary life and resellability
