THE BEST FIRST DATE IN CINEMA.... In 2028 will be the 50th Anniversary of the release of Superman The Movie. I was a little boy but Superman was one of my favorite characters. I attended the opening and the film exceeded expectations for a film based on the legendary graphic novel. I still remember the caption on the movie poster; "You will believe a man can fly......" . I think every man would love to have a first date with the magic of this one...without the cape of course😊 The Penthouse and Night Flight scenes from the movie are some of the best in the genre and represent the adult version of the Clark Kent Lois Lane love affair in Smallville. I must have watched the film and this scene over 200 times and just recently appreciated how the chemistry between Christopher Reeves and Margot Kidder is conveyed without any dialogue. John Williams music remains the ne plus ultra music score for the Superman franchise and this Love Theme with the late Maro Kidder's voice over is the heart of the film. It is regrettable the lives of Christopher Reeves and Margot Kidder encountered tragedy because had they lived I would have recommended they both be honored with a lifetime achievement award at the Oscars for 2028 for their performances.

As dated as the special effects in this scene are now, it remains as one of the most iconic sequences ever filmed and it’s accompanied by John Williams’ perfect score. The chemistry and the magic are palpable. The way that he looks at her and smiles at :44 says it all. This is why we go to the movies.

Richard Donner's masterpiece. The best Superman-movie. It had everything: good story, great acting, action, romance, humour, a kind of innocence and wonder. Do you see still iconic stuff like this in modern superhero-movies?

Those who didn't care for the Recitative of the lyrics by Lois, I get that it's a touch jarring. Here's my take: we dont know Superman's limitations. Neither did she. "Can you read my mind?" Can he? That it's in the soundtrack suggests perhaps Superman can hear thought. Probably not, since he was tricked by Luthor with the lead-case Kryptonite. But the romance of the limitless sensibilities of this super-man begs the question. It's perfect!

This is absolutely my favourite scene in the movie & the music sets the tone perfectly! I always remember seeing this film a few years before we took our 1st ever trip Stateside to NYC & going up one of the twin towers xx 😘👌🏾🎶🗽

It's really too bad Kidder kind of lost her mind their. The same led to drugs and homelessness and eventually she was able to recover but she lost years being alone.

Please listen to Richard Strauss’ Death and Transfiguration if you want to know who actually wrote this. I would have respect for John Williams if he actually credited the composers of “his” material.

I hope that superman and lois are flying every night since they each passed on and that they are together in heaven because deep down we would never had believed that a man can fly and that is why superman can fly. Lois and superman always and forever. One day i will see them again and see them both flying every night.

So, in this edit, Lois doesn't momentarily lose her grip and fall for a moment? One of the zillion different edits of this film. But the Williams score is pure magic. So many of William's other great movie scores are being performed live with an orchestra in front of the movie. Whem will THIS film get the same treatment?

Vanessa Redgrave deservedly was nominated for an Oscar for her performance as Mary. I can’t help but feel that Glenda Jackson should have received the same recognition for her performance. If not best actress then at least best supporting actress. Perhaps it was because she was reprising her role from the BBC series Elizabeth R the same year. She got two Emmy Emmy awards for that so perhaps they were reluctant to take away the chance of an American actress getting the Oscar. Didn’t matter, she nabbed two anyway. Although her performance in Elizabeth R is better, here she completely steals each scene she’s in. There were parts in this film where I was looking forward to Elizabeth’s scenes as some of it does drag on slightly. A great film anyway with a sizzling Elizabeth from Glenda Jackson and a very naive Queen of Scott’s from Vanessa Redgrave!

I remember the episode where Malcolm and Reese were repeatedly pranking each other in retaliation for previous pranks that were shown in flashbacks, and the final flashback showed it all started with something small and insignificant. Now we see which parent they inherited that from.
