The best scene in all the Superman movies. It's pure magic, unrivalled by any other. And it owes so much to John Willams' score. May Christopher Reeve and Margot Kidder rest in heaven as blissfully as their characters are flying in this scene. Thank you so much for the Superman movies.

I know its not really a popular scene among diehard fans of the Superman films or the franchise as a whole and while it may be schmaltzy, without it Lois Lane's "death" wouldn't have anywhere near the same kind of power for the audience and Superman's grief that drives him to reverse the earth's orbit to undo it just wouldn't read the same way. Leaving it out it would be like taking Over the Rainbow out of Wizard of Oz almost

Margot Kidder’s reading in this scene is vulnerable, sensitive and so feminine and human. She was brilliant in this role. And there’s these wonderful nuances in her reading. She even adds a perfect little sigh during the pause in “here I am like a kid out of school” line. She also possessed a distinct voice with a perfect touch of raspiness that added dimension to her performance throughout the whole film. A performance for the ages.

Watching Superman 2 with my 6 year old granddaughter and started remembering when Superman, The Movie came out. I was 23, had a 4 year old son who was Superman crazy and a 2 year old daughter. Doesn't seem like it has been 36 years since it came out. My husband and I went to see it first, to make sure it didn't have anything a 4 year old would try to copy. I fell in love with the movie then and there. I am 59 now, the 4 year old is 40, the two year old is 38 and they were joined by a baby sister in 1984, that loved Superman from seeing it on TV and she's 30 now. It's her six year old daughter and her twin brother that love to watch it now with me. These two, like myself and others, feel this is the true Superman, Christopher Reeve. Can't believe he will be gone 10 years this October. Like others have said, Christopher Reeve made you believe a man could fly, and every time I see this flying scene with Superman and Lois, even after 36 years, I still can close my eyes and imagine like others, I'm flying with Superman. I watched George Reeves on the old TV series, Dean Cain in Lois and Clark and Brandon Routh in Superman Returns, but Christopher Reeve to me is and always will be Superman.

It's fantastic that a film this big, from one side of the Universe to the other, with so much responsibility takes a swift detour and just... well... takes the audience out on a night with Superman. Rarely do you get moments in films that stray from the plot, I mean the scene serves no narrative purpose other than to strengthen the characters. I can't imagine the film without this sequence. It's silly, melodramatic, and romantic and it's why I love films and why Richard Donner is one of the greatest filmmakers - he gets it.

Sorry but she wasn't the worst. She was everything lois is meant to be. Amy adams was the worst as lois. Neither were too young. Bosworth has a more mature face! And she wasn't wooden. Her caring nature and how she got worried was great. I think routh needed diff colours overall lol. Reeves pulled off the blue and red but routh needed maybe a darker suit?
@cocodakilla
@cocodakilla 8 жыл бұрын
How is that too young?! Margot and reeves were also quite young when they started. And i dont know anyone who is bashing her to be honest. Most people loved the film. I haven't seen her other films. And amy perfect? Are you Ok!??? She is awful awful AWFUL as Lois. She's 40 btw. I swear mos is about him starting off? I hate seeing her as lois and cavill is also awful. The director is very silly for sucking emotion out of the films. Reeves had a manly face and body. Sooo he could play anyone and get away with it lol even when he died he looks so young. Are you serious about rouths clothes... everyone complains it was babyish. Looking back I kind of agree but not much. Maybe a LITTLE darker. Maybe if he buffed up a bit it would've been better
@cocodakilla
@cocodakilla 8 жыл бұрын
What why not? Margot was the best and she was in her 20s not 30s. Amy is far from lois lane. Idc what her age is. The age of the talent shouldn't matter their performance should. Kate didn't come cross as a girl. Most people did NOT backlash. The only sad thing was they expected more MONEY and more villain scenes and fighting scenes. Reeves and Margot did NOT work better because of age!! He always seemed older. Both were TALENTED and it worked. Kate and routh had the same chemistry while amy and cavill have been thrown together. Agree about the indiana jones example. And I disagree about the age thing lol hollywood is brainwashing the masses into accepting big age gaps and the women are deemed old when young. Superman is a very good example which goes against it but superhero films in general have good morals and don't promote medieval beliefs lol. Also those women got attention at that age because that is when they became famous! Debbie harry always seemed in control. Madonna was a big BITCH to everyone and still is crazy lol. Whitney was always great. Celine overrated. Barbara was always great. Tina too. Cher too. Belinda didn't make it that well. Adele became famous when in her early twenties? So? It doesn't mean anything!! Talent does. And obviously casting them properly. She never looked 22. Seemed more mature and in control. Routh definitely seemed younger. With margot she seemed younger than reeves and he was more in control. Did you know lois is based on one of the creator's wife? O.i
@cocodakilla
@cocodakilla 8 жыл бұрын
Omg her age does not matter. Watch black Christmas. It's called talent. And that BW film of twins. And you really are deluded if you pick on this stupid age thing. In reality TALENT matters. Something cavill and adams lack. Adams is great in other genres. But as Lois she was awful. I wish kidder and reeves made more films and singer got to continue with SR not a new reboot. As long as the casting is close in age and makes sense it does not matter. Talent always does and suitability!

All these beautiful comments! 😍😍😍 It's so good to be part of a collective who feel this whole powerfully nostalgic, overwhelming, sensory experience as deeply as I do 😍😍😍 Sublime magic, forever tinged with sadness and tragedy... Great to see upcoming generations enjoying this too 🤩

When i was 6yo. with my hole family went to see Superman, and this scene, and the one where he Screams for Her before going beserker are printed in my memory forever. You're right, we are not alone, it will sound corny, but all we need is love. Thank you for your words and i wish you a wonderful life my friend, and your family too. Ohhh and you must watch Superman & Lois, you're not going to regret it, trust me.

This is exactly the kind of lovely quiet moment that made this film so special (and also what Patty Jenkins wisely did for her _Wonder Woman_ ): it made us care for the characters even more. Rest in peace, Mr. Reeve and Ms. Kidder

Empire Magazine rated it as one of the top 50 romantic scenes in film history. I'd say this and the flying scene in "Out of Africa" are a close tie.

I hope that superman and lois are flying every night since they each passed on and that they are together in heaven because deep down we would never had believed that a man can fly and that is why superman can fly. Lois and superman always and forever. One day i will see them again and see them both flying every night.

LMAO at the end as Lois isn't really listening to him when he says "we forgot to time ourselves". XD Seriously who can blame her?! The on-screen chemistry between these two is fantastic. :')

My fiancé and I watched superman a while back, and I kept referring to him as superman so on this scene I snuggled close up and held onto him like a dork and pretended we were flying on the couch. But the cool thing is he pretended with me, he'd stick his arm out like superman's and asked before we took off he asked if I was ready, then here we go....... lol. And we'd separate and hold onto each other hands like we were really flying.......sigh....... Oh my gosh I really am a dork!

Not only is this The BEST scene from, Superman: The Movie, but it is also the BEST track from the, Superman: The Movie soundtrack! (along with the terrace scene where she Interviews Supes right before this scene) I just love how, Lois Lane is this big time tough ass reporter with such a confident, & cocky attitude...HOWEVER, right in this moment when she, “Spends The Night With Superman”, she just automatically becomes this little school girl with a huge crush and that tough exterior of hers just crumbles & falls down! She just becomes SO vulnerable!! I love it!!

This scene sort of typifies what is missing in today's blockbusters. Today it's all abut wowing people, shocking people with some death or headfake, and some big set action piece with CGI. This movie is all heart and appealed to EVERY moviegoer, not just a specific fanbase/demo who will go see it multiple times.
