I see it’s a worldwide issue: people are together at a restaurant or at home, but they’re looking at their phone instead of talking! So sad! I simply refuse to talk to anyone who’s looking at the phone but say I can keep talking because they’re listening to me! But I love technology when it connects us like here on your channel, because there are many artists who unfortunately don’t answer comments and connection is not possible, so I always appreciate the fact that you answer comments 🙏🏻 I’m almost finishing my quilt. It’ll be about 44 x 54 inches (more or less, we use meters and centimeters in Portugal) and I’m stitching the last block. I don’t want it bigger, a lap size is fine. Then it’ll be the embellishment around it 💙❤️🧡💛💜💚🧡🩵🩷🤎♥️

It's true, the world has become so tech-focused that we sometimes forget to enjoy the moment with the people around us. I'm glad you're finding connection here on the channel! And your quilt sounds amazing. Can't wait to get so close to the finish line on mine as well. I like the size we're making. Lap size is perfect for cozying up!

@@IckyChicDesigns I appreciate it very much. I love slow stitching and I've been wanting to make a quilt...I've never made traditional quilts, I don't even own a sewing machine. I've been watching some videos on the Just Because Quilt that some people have been making and started my first block which I made 15" x 15" but I'm finding it a little large to work with ...I like your idea of doing smaller blocks then after all the stitching adding them to the larger piece. So since I've just started and I've only sewn about the first 5", I'm going to pivot and cut my 15" block down to a 5" x 15" block, I can handle that, and continue on the way you are doing yours. I do have one question and you may have said this at the beginning and I've just forgotten...how are you planning to finish the back? One large piece of material pinned on then sewn or some other way? Thanks!
@IckyChicDesigns7 күн бұрын
@@cathyjenkins5985 Oh! I love your adventurous approach. Being able to adapt is the first step to creative genius! I will add a second layer of batting, then a cotton muslin fabric for the backing. Then I will tie the quilt since the top is already quilted. Then I'll add a binding to the outside edges and poof - we'll have a finished quilt.

I completely agree with you: I cheat all the time 😂! Sometimes I’m joining two blocks and they aren’t the same size! Well, no problem, I just stitch and “shrink” the longest one a bit and in the end no one would say I did that! Trying to be perfect is very stressful and I don’t think it’s worth it, but for those who like it, well, everyone does their own way. Your quilt is looking like a rainbow 🌈 I love it ❤️💙💜🩷🩵💛💚🧡🤎🩶♥️

Haha, yes, I can just imagine the wheels turning in your head. When I'm done with the top, I'm going to add another layer of batting between it and the backing fabric and then tie the whole thing about every 2-3 inches before I bind it. I'm having loads of fun with also. I'm really pleased with it!.

I , personally,don't trust running stitch as a stable binding.especially when said item will be used and washed.I would do back stitch.also, I have a a strong phobia against frayed edges. so,I am considering doing this with pinked edges,then cover the strips with see through fabric like silk organza.very pedantic,I am.

Being messy and childlike would also be a compliment to me. I like to draw and paint abstract faces and I get that “observation” all the time: it’s childlike! Curiously, those people who say that our art is childlike usually are a bit insecure and have low self confidence. I don’t like traditional quilting either. Every traditional quilting I’ve learnt with k3n, I transformed it into something completely different. I sometimes wonder why people feel compelled to criticize other people’s work just because it’s different! Maybe they need perfection and structured rules, because they don’t trust their own creativity… Maybe it’s that… I don’t know… But I do know that when we do different things or things that don’t follow certain “rules”, usually they’re not very well accepted. I’m experiencing that on instagram and stopped posting my quilt. After all, I’m making it for myself not to please others 😊 Thanks for the suggestions on how to wash a quilt - I’m one of those who’s afraid to wash it 😂! I specially think of the French knots! I always think they’ll get undone 😂 I’m very happy with my quilt, because I’m using my mother’s fabrics and that’s very special to me. It’s very colourful also and every block is different from the other 😊 ❤️🧡💙💛💚🤎🩵🩶🩷💜♥️

Everyday I work on about 2 or 3 different projects. I'm slowly getting back into crochet, working on this project idea but material wise I don't have much but doing the best I can with what I have and finally working on embroidery stitches to improve my tension and technique. Since turning 60 earlier this year, you have come to realize that today's generation does not appreciate the art form we grew up with. The only thing is that my family did not do crafts for those who knew how to, did not bother to share. So I consider myself a late bloomer and everything I worked on since from 2019 to currently being self taught and having the determination. It's the imperfect that makes things perfect (a phrase I learned from The Big Bang Theory). Thank you for sharing and for the inspiration. P.s I will also try to work on your 50 different style flowers when time permits.😊
@IckyChicDesigns11 күн бұрын
Ah, a late bloomer with a green thumb for crafting! Just remember, every stitch counts-and sometimes the most beautiful pieces are the ones that tell a story of their imperfections!
