I had to put a click track to it and listen to the song that way for a couple of days straight. After a bit your brain starts to follow the real downbeat of the song even without a metronome
@abhichakladar5279
@abhichakladar5279 7 жыл бұрын
The cymbal is usually on beats 1 and 3 in most metal songs, but in this song it is on beats 2 and 4. So your brain is thinking of the song one beat ahead of what the song is really being played at. Takes a little getting used to, but it will make sense in due time. Use the snare sound to keep up with the rhythm, not the cymbals. That's what I did. (Because at one point in the song the cymbals and snare are played at the same time during the solo) After that, the guitar part will click in as well, and the song will turn out to be simpler than you thought.

You guys, this song is absolutely 4/4 the whole way through. What obscures this is that the band accents the "and" of 4, and doesn't play 1, so your brain wants to put the 1 an eighth note early. In other sections, like before and during the guitar solo, they also add more accents that make it even more difficult to put the 1 in the right spot. Look up "The secret behind Meshuggah's COMBUSTION" on YT and it should help make things clearer.

I personally found this to be one of their simpler songs. I always thought that it's 4/4 but the drums play "on downbeat" (or accenting the "and as +Elias Simon said).
