I would say for your instance... use some hand warmers and such to thraw out cable. As far as the boat, either cover it or blow it out. Ya dont want it becoming ice. And a set of atv goggles help when driving in snow it keeps the eyes clear...

Ive live in Florida for 25 years now,I remember as a child hearing about hownit snowed once in 79, That make this the second time. Historical event.

I use a leaf blower to get it off the boat, before it freezes solid. SC. Enjoyed!

man that looks like fun. edit: HEET is a great product for freeing up frozen stuff. We used to pour it down our air lines to thaw them out quickly up in Wyoming. Can't speak for what it will do for your shift cable in the long term and I doubt you ever have this problem again in our lifetime but maybe keep a bottle in your houseboat.
