At 1 minute 15 seconds into this video you will see the #44 37 chevy coupe, I own this car now, If anybody has some history about this car, I would sure like to know more about it. I know Dick raced it at Reading and Langhorn Speedways. Thank You!

What a class guy Freddie was. I had the privilege of talking to Freddie away from the track. Freddie loved talking racing and as soon as I talked about the reading fairgrounds track, his eyes would light up!! He mentioned that the reading fairgrounds, by far, was the best track he had ever raced on. I was so honored and glad to know freddie, what a great and friendly man he was!! So sad on Freddie’s passing. He is sorely missed. In my eye, freddie, you will always be a champion!! We miss you freddie!!

It was a magical time for many of us who frequented the place. It was that way for my sisters & I when Mon & Dad would take us there. Then the mid 60's came and things started to get that 'seedy' feel which indicated that thing's have changed and the magic was gone. Just too bad !

I remember watching on ABC's Wide World of Sports with the broadcast by I believe Jim McKay and Chris Economaki. Don't remember if it was live or not. Back in the day a lot was tape delay. But I'll never forget the sight of the accomplishment. Only an American Legend deserves a song written and sung by Another American Legend; The Beach Boys. RIP Craig Breedlove

FOREST LEROY FICK- 1/07/52/ 12/04/2021 We’ll always have Forrest (Lee) in our hearts, which were broken upon his untimely death. “Lee” spent most of his adult life painting and that was mostly the old modified’s with the other part of his life doing research on old the Reading racetrack newspaper clippings and clippings from other tracks along with caring fore his numerous cats. Lee’s perspective was uncanny when it came to sketching up the different angles of the cars spinning out and side by side shots. I think his favorite word over the years was “heat”, lol. Thank you for such a great presentation of some of my brother’s best and favorite paintings. REST IN PEACE LEE, someday we’ll all be together again. Love always my big brother and Merry Christmas Charlie (Todd)

Thank you for posting this beautiful memorial to my wonderful, super intelligent and talented brother, Forrest Leroy Fick. We were very close even though I live in Florida. When I sent a message to the universe online on Christmas morning…your video popped up. It was a gift of magnitude that I am deeply grateful for. I miss him terribly. He was amazing to talk to…thank you and Merry Christmas! Victoria Steele-Richardson, Ft Lauderdale 4:19

I'm so glad to hear that you found and enjoyed the video. He was very talented and even though I only talked to him on Facebook, he seemed like a very likable guy. We in the racing community will miss seeing new works of art from him, but can still enjoy the many drawings that he produced.

Never got to see him race - New Jersey was a long way off for a kid in NC - but it seems like every picture I’ve ever seen of him, and there’s about a million of them, he’s got a big smile on his face and nicely dressed when he wasn’t in a fire suit! Must have been a class guy! A true legend! Did he lose his life racing? In any case, RIP Al! Your legend lives on!

@@rickhammond2473 I understand the cage broke at the welds because it was made of chrome moly tubing and welding made it brittle. The worst part of that story was that there weren't enough cars to fill a race- he was already qualified- and he went out anyway. That's when the tragedy happened. At least from what I'd been told long ago. His loss shook me up pretty good and it took a while for me to return to the tracks after learning about it. Sad.

Oh my God....the memories! When I was a kid, I used to ride my bike to his first speed shop (behind his house on Weavertown Road) and he'd let me sweep the floors. Sometimes I'd just stand outside the shop and watch all the neat things going on inside (When you're 10, everything in a race shop is neat!!!). He even snuck me in the races a few times at the old Reading Fairgrounds, hidden under a tarp in the back of the truck. The man would go out of his way to help a fellow racer. One of the best there ever was.

I’ve never heard of him before this, but what a great snapshot of a life well lived! Makes me think of Jim Croce’s “Rapid Roy That Stock Car Boy” song from the 70’s! There’s no men like this left in racing today! And I guess he was a welder? That earns extra points in my scoring system! Ha! I imagine him probably building each and every car from the ground up himself! Thanks!

Thanks for the reply! Leon was once a rodeo star on Cowtown Rodeo in New Jersey. He was also a very well known welder from Paulsboro, New Jersey. He took on some of the most dangerous jobs including underwater welding, and welding large fuel tanker trucks. He built the Bridgeport, New Jersey track which is still operating today. My brother was the president of his fan club. He did build most of his race cars and even had a 426 Dodge Hemi in a few of his cars which he purchased from Petty enterprises! He didn't win a lot of races, but was always in the hunt!

@@tomt9543 Yes, he passed in 2016 at age 93. Funny you mentioned Jim Croce. He used to attend the races at the Reading Fairgrounds Speedway before he became famous. I swear I sold him a sweatshirt that I painted using embroidery paint. Sure wish I still had the piece of paper that he wrote his name on. What a great singer he was!
