But then she complains that Berkeley isn't doing enough to SLOW DOWN new housing (with design standards, community input, street articulations, solar installations (when utility-scale solar is far more efficient), developer fees, and "process"). Kate prefers paperwork to climate. If you make housing too expensive to build, no one will build it. I hope a more sensible, pro-climate candidate steps into this vacated seat.

Berkeley is dysfunctional and has been for a very long time. Here, again, time during the council meeting was largely spent on concerns outside the purview of the City. I recently inquired about a couple of bus shelters being installed because a postcard announcement was mailed out last spring and our rainy season was approaching. Turns out there's a process to be undergone, including putting the job out for bid, which means we probably get to wait another year. Two bus shelters! Don't we have any sitting around in the corporation yard? Obviously no one on the payroll is the least bit concerned about how a rainstorm would affect the waiting bus riders, who regularly include elderly and disabled people.
