I retired at 52 and honestly, I wish I’d done it sooner. The 9-to-5 grind always steals your freedom for a paycheck that barely scratches the surface. My advice? If you’re in your late 30s or early 40s, start saving for FIRE now (Financial Independence, Retire Early.) And if you’re in your 50s, invest smartly and break free from relying on your job. Market trends, like the Trump Effect, have made millions for many, including me. Stay focused, stay consistent, and remember financial freedom is within reach if you make it a priority.

I admire your honesty. Sadly, your situation isn’t uncommon by any means. I see so many bright, young (usually men) out of jobs or working very menial jobs and it’s depressing. I forget where I read it, but the quote went something like “you will know society is failing when a smart, respectable man can barely earn enough”.

yup i get depressed about this ... i currently am 28f making 64k as a coordinator in the united states. every year they give me a 2k raise WOOOO LMAO so im currently enrolled in a sales software course to apply for a sales job... to better my life smh i cant survive on my salary i pray i do well in sales. i too wish i started in sales earlier at 21 but we are 28 we still have some time.

I just realized that from 2020-2024 my wage has raised $18k which if I calculate the total inflation that I’m one of the lucky few who has not taken a pay cut, but I’ve stayed in exactly the same place for the last 4 years. To get these pay raises I really had to go way above and beyond throughout the last 4 years, and I’m not going to keep doing that because now I’m not paid what I should be paid with all of the responsibilities that I now have. All the work, and promotions I haven’t been rewarded at all. I’ve had this vision of working my hardest, finding a house, then finally a longterm partner and I’ve passed up a lot of potential great relationships with potential partners because I’ve kept my head in my professional goals. I’m not living with parents, but I’m in a small 1 bedroom apartment with debt. I feel like I’ve also wasted my 20s at 28. I’ve got to find something I’m good at from an entrepreneurial standpoint. A 9-5 is going to keep me in the gutter, not keeping up with inflation, and going to keep me living from paycheck to paycheck.
