The old testament was around before any church tradition. When they say "it is written" in the new testament, thats what they are talking about. When it says the scripture has EVERYTHING we need for life and godly living, thats what it means. We dont need the traditions of men...

Actually St. Ignatius of Antioch states that those who marry should be united with the bishop's approval or those whom the bishop has given authority like the priests or deacons so that the marriage may follow God's will and not merely prompting of the flesh and protestant pastors are not under apostolic lineage and that's why the Catholic church can allow those divorced protestants to re-marry in the Catholic Church?!. There is evidence that there was an oral handing down of tradition in the OT which is seen in Genesis with Noah who knew what was clean and unclean. As for during the NT times when they were in action there was scripture then it is what we call the OT. Putting traditions above scripture is dangerous ground. Jesus called the pharisees out for doing that in Matthew 15.

I was raised in the Presbyterian Church and went to Catholic hs. When I was discerning a conversion to Catholicism I didn't do RCIA, Catholic school had actually taught me much of the fundamentals of Catholicism and instead I was able to meet one on one with a priest and discuss the hurdles preventing me from joining the church (icons, Mary, apocrypha, purgatory)

I have a question: Can you show me a scripture that confirms that Mary is in heaven? If not, how does the Catholic church know that Mary is in heaven? Im a lutheran. I’m here seeking the truth and it really starts to seem like catholism would be the real deal, mainly because it’s simply the original stuff, I suppose. One thing that is keeping me still cautious is that the “reformation” that happened when lutheric church was born, is viewed as a good progressive thing, right? So going back to catholism would be like going back to the “old bad habits”, if you get what I mean. This of course doesn’t make anything true or false. However I’m afraid I would be mocked down as a conservative homofobic or something if I transitioned from lutheric to the catholic.

Christian tradition doesn’t really predate the Scriptures if one considers that the Old Testament & Deuterocanon were complete and widely taught among the ancient Jews from among whom Jesus Christ and his first followers emerged. The apostles always had some written material to build upon.
