I have to watch A Christmas Carol starring Sir Patrick Stewart - he is the best Scrooge ever 😊 Thank you for the ideas. We do Kris Kringle for the adults in the family, so whoever I draw, one of those gifts will fit ❤😊
@SewHayleyJane4 күн бұрын
Ah yes that's a great version of the story! Is Kris Kringle like a Secret Santa? Where you only get gifts for one person in the group
@krankywitch4 күн бұрын
@ Yes, just like Secret Santa only it’s not a secret, and there’s a spend limit - lower and upper. With a large family, one would go broke buying a gift for every member. So we buy gifts for all the children and once they turn 18 they join the Kris Kringle.

Of course I read Umberto Eco‘s „The name of the rose“, Ivanhoe, Gone with the wind and London. Being German a lot of the mentioned authors are not particularly known here. But I will give them a try. I once started to read Hillary Mantel, but I thought it quite difficult to connect with. My favorite book by Edward Rutherfurd is „New York“. And there are so many more historical novels to be read. I love biographies that take us back to the past, and I hate these historical romances!

I live in the US and I have never heard of a peg bag. What is it?
@SewHayleyJane5 күн бұрын
A few people in the US have asked me this, in the UK we hang our laundry outside to dry (when the weather is nice) and use pegs to clip the clothes to the washing line. So the bag is to hold all the pegs in which you can hang on the line too

The hand warmers - microwave with a cup of water so they don't dry out and catch fire. Make sure you seal them well or bugs will live in them. Lanyard - I'd cut the tag off immediately for it being in the way, it should have been sewed the long way into the lanyard so it didn't stick out and high enough it's at the back of the neck. Just saying. Wonderful ideas. I look forward to making the zipper pouch as it stands up, as well as the lanyard and makeup wipes - only I'll make the wipes round using a a round object to trace them like a glass or something smaller. An ID pouch for the lanyard is also a good idea. Joanne has plastic with thick enough gages for that.

Hi. Very informative video. Thank you. I feel a bit overwhelmed with fabric types. I seem to always get it wrong! I love the brushed cotton dress. What’s the name of the pattern please?
@SewHayleyJane16 күн бұрын
It can definitely be overwhelming, but hopefully these videos will help with that! A lot of online fabric shops will send you fabric swatches so you can feel them before placing an order - if it's not obvious on their website you can drop them an email and usually they'll be more than happy to help

I'm enjoying this video series on wovens! I would love to see something similar for knits. I find them much harder to shop for because in person shops often don't give you the full composition but when shopping online it's harder to really get a sense of the weight, softness, stretch etc. to know if it'll work for a pattern. I know spandex and elastane are often included for recovery but not always--what kinds of patterns are good for knits without those? I also don't know what to expect from modal vs. hemp vs. bamboo vs. just cotton knits OR what to expect from different weights or types. For example, I know ponte knits are usually denser, heavier weight knits but don't have similar rules of thumb for any other type of knit. I would love to buy some various sweater knit fabrics for the upcoming winter season to replace some very old rtw tops, and some mid-weight polyester-free knits to make long sleeve tees and undershirts but quickly get overwhelmed picking out fabrics.

Hi, thank you so much for your comment, yes I am planning to build on this series over time and am actually planning a sweatshirt knit video and lighter weight knits video in the next few months

lovely clear explanations Hayley. One question, what pattern are you wearing?? I'm in the market for a reasonably. straightforward Pinafore pattern, any ideas?! 🐾🐾

It’s a Pattern Emporium Seachange jumpsuit, I’ve made it a few times - it’s very flowy so great for summer or layered up in the winter. For more of a pinafore style I love Helen’s closet york

Thanks for all the tips! I’m having trouble with gathering mine- I’ve tried using the foot but the fabric doesn’t gather 😭 I’ve got lots of skirt ruffles to do and I’m already slightly regretting choosing double gauze, but it’s just light and flowy 🫶
@SewHayleyJane26 күн бұрын
Oh no!! A couple of different methods might work better - try lowering your thread tension dial to 0. Or you can sew a zig zag stitch over a length of dental floss - then pull on the floss to gather. Another option is to zigzag some clear elastic thread to the inside of the fabric just inside the seam allowance
