I dont know but do know from looking at cams for a 96 vic. 99 percent of cam manufacturers addvise a valve spring upgrade and to be degreed. Todd warren cams has a custom grind for these for factory valve springs

Great video! Would a 2023 QX80 need its timing chain replaced? I see it was not affected by the recall but is it still a wear and tear item? For example Honda V6 the timing belt is recommended every 7 years or 100,000 miles, is it similar with this?
@haloguru25527 ай бұрын
There's no maintenance interval. It's only if it starts making noise or fails do you replace it. Change your oil every 5k on time, use synthetic. Should be fine. I would replace the high pressure fuel pump lifter bucket at 100k miles though, as a preventative repair. We see issues with them in high mileage and that becomes a very expensive repair.
@mrelectron62208 ай бұрын
Degreeing cams on any V8 OHC motor is important not only for PTV issues but the manufacturing of the cams can be off a couple degrees from one cam to the other. So in turn what you have is one bank of cylinders fighting with the other side. You can pick up between 5-15 Hp by degreeing them. You also have to consider the chains will stretch after while affecting cam timing also.

Got a link to the tool you used for the oil jets? I can’t find any under about 5-600 bucks. Also no special way to press them back in you just tapped it with a mallet? Am currently in the middle of this job right now.
@haloguru25529 ай бұрын
I used the dealership tool, unfortunately it doesn't seem there's a cheap alternative. I've pulled them out with pliers before, but it's in there TIGHT. Sometimes that doesn't work. I don't use the installer tool. Just line it up with the round side facing the chains, notched line on the face of the jet straight up and down at 12 o'clock. Tap it in with a brass punch and hammer. I put a small dab of red loctite on the press surface, because some metal does come out of the block with the old jet.

@CobraR1993 Жыл бұрын
The cost of aftermarket cams and the difficulty of installation isn't worth it on a 4.6. After it's all said and done even with degreed cams, you're looking at 25-30 hp tops. As far as engine work I would either buy the Trick Flow Heads with MHS camshafts OR port and polish the stock heads and give them a 3 angle valve job with some long tube headers and now you're doing something worthwhile.

If you have stock engines you should go with the h version versus that ah which are higher lift
@haloguru2552 Жыл бұрын
So the h cams have less lift, is that what you're saying?
@crownvictorialifestyle4421 Жыл бұрын
@@haloguru2552yes 500 h lift vs 550 ah lift Howard's makes a stage 2 type cam compared to the stage 2 comp npi cams and I degreed them in at 110 intake center line and had piston to valve clearance all the way down to a 108 intake center line which is advanced and decreases Pistons to valve clearance I ended up with a little over 110.25 and 110.5 intake center line witch is close enough for me My cams are a tad bit bigger than yours in the duration Which dictates RPM range My cams are 500/500 lift 230/[email protected] and 114 lsa I would also advised to give valve springs because that will also help with decreasing piston to valve clearance those stock springs are meant for low duration stock cams The extra seat pressure that aftermarket springs offer will close the valve a lot quicker than it would those stock springs fyi When you get aftermarket cams you should always do valve springs
Honestly man great info a year later. I’m going to have to look into this for my 4.6 mustang thank you 👍

@haloguru2552 Жыл бұрын
I did a full evac and recharge. Other guys in my shop do the job without pulling the radiator pack and they leave the system charged. Just unbolt the compressor and set it aside. But you don't get the big open space to work that way
@dougalhowat1420 Жыл бұрын
@@haloguru2552 I had mine de-gassed, way nicer to work on without the radiator pack. Just resealed the engine. I purchased in Australia with 250k km, and P0088 high pressure fuel code. Chains had been replaced but not the oil jet. Found the tip of the old fuel pump in the timing chain cover and damage to the housing around the fuel cam. Fuel cam was 180 degrees out of time which I hope was the cause of the code. Replaced jet, chains etc, cam, lifter and TC cover (pump is new). Thanks again for your video, I've referenced it over and over during the job. I'll be finished in a few more nights. I can't imagine doing the hole thing in 8 hours, respect!
@haloguru2552 Жыл бұрын
@dougalhowat1420 glad it helped you, sounds like you got it figured out. Just make sure the rod/ spring behind the fuel pump lifter didn't get damaged too. Sounds like someone tried to fix it before you but did a shit job
@dougalhowat1420 Жыл бұрын
They replaced the fuel pump assembly, so spring / pushrod is all new. I've had it running about a week now. Previous codes have gone, I'm now getting intermittent low oil pressure and crank sensor faults. After replacing crank sensor and various other diagnostics, I found rh cam timing solenoid was sticking in the out position. Cleaned, it, now I'm only getting the fault occasionally if the engine is cold and accelerated hard. It runs very nicely the rest of the time
