Dude! You rock...haters gonna hate. I am a 65 yro woman backpacking solo in Southeast Asia. I am a slow traveler and that grinds on you but your itineraries are insane!! What a badass!!! I've been in Thailand for 3 months and am heading to Malaysia next week. I'm bummed our paths didn't cross when you were in PKK, would have been cool to toss back a few! Be Well, Safe Travels...

don't worry about stupid people commenting, more comments = more engagement = better for youtube algorithm. it's refreshing to see older people backpacking, who said it's young kids thing. i think you don't realise how inspiring your videos can be. do your thing, be the channel of older dude traveling on a budget. world is full of miserable people who never had a chance to do what they like. have a rest and go back traveling ✈

Welcome home mate. Completely understand the need to recharge the batteries and the wallet. Slow travel is my mantra these days. Four nights minimum at one place. A great series of videos made better by the "realism" of your presentation style.

just come back from Hua Hin and you hit the nail on the head, it's a tourist place for people looking to chill out not really for young backpackers, we stayed at one of the hotels on the front and as a middle aged couple it was a week of chilling out after 5 days in Bangkok we enjoyed it and you missed out on some good night markets, Tamarind (down the other end of Hua Hin) being my fav for food but I'm not sure it would have been my cup of tea if I was younger. glad to have found your channel after your 'I'm heading home vlog' appeared on my feed hope you get back out on your travels once you've re charged your batteries 👍
@olderbackpacker15 сағат бұрын
I’ll be back out soon, so I’ll be going out to other places like Hua Hin! lol

Nice attempt. I think if you stayed about a week or two in each country, you'd have a better chance of completing your trip, just my opinion. Take care and have a nice break.

Man been there seen it done it..if your not feeling it time to go home ..I did four and a half months around the world when I was much younger and got burnt out..back packing takes it's toll especially staying in dorm rooms with colourful people ! Go home regroup get some more cash and get back on the road when you feel the vibe and it won't be long before Thailand calls you back..as it's done to me for over 30 years.

It helps that Thailand has cheaper flights :) lol

My apologies if my comment is too long. I am 69 and soon i will soend the rest of the year criss crossing Asia. I know its hard work and often lonely. It takes stamina, courage and luck. You have the added pressure of filming and editing. I just received my five year visa for Thailand and most applicants are KZbinrs. I decided not to continue my channel because the pressure is relentless. More than this it neans experiencing a place through a lens and considering the desires if the subscribers rather than just enjoying the locale for yourself. Its great if you have a refuge and there is no shame in returning and recharging. Its a smart move. No place is paradise either to live ir even visit. The world is a complex place with many layers and happiness is a gift.. it is not found ir even earned. I admire your desire to share your travels. Enjoy home.
@olderbackpacker8 сағат бұрын
Thank you for your comment. I always try not to do my videos for the desires of the subscribers, always for myself. You should restart your channel up again, for you :)

Oh, Stuart, my first reaction when seeing your title was WHAT but then I remembered... thinking back a few videos ago, , Stu is still not 100% happy within so i was not fully surprised.. You have definitely done the right thing for you, 8 months is a long time for anyone travelling. You've done a great job keeping us all entertained, and I, for one, have looked forward to watching your journey, usually binge watching episodes when I've got time to catch up. Don't let these haters get to you. One thing I've found watching travelling Videos is there us always a certain amount of armchair / keyboard warriors lining up to hand our crap, just because they can. Have a long break. Bug, don't be a total stranger, I'm sure us followers would like to know how you are doing, mate. Paul.
@olderbackpacker8 сағат бұрын
Thank you for your support Paul. You’re right that I should listen to the keyboard warriors! But you’re right, I was getting tired, and I guess I was missing a bit of normality! I will be back in a couple of months! :)

Spend the time thinking about how you want to travel. 2 years ago I thought I was going to travel the world very much like you. My small trip to Ecuador taught me that I need a home base. It's taking me a couple of years, but I realized that the proper home base for me is in Kuching (well, it shares latitude with Quito.) Whether that place is back home in England or someplace that you've really loved, find it. The value of being an older traveler is the wisdom of making decisions differently as you learn. I say this having just figured it out between the ages of 57 and 59. There is a way you can do this too, you just need to refine your processes. An example, if you stayed near KL you could buy the Asia airlines 400 US Dollars pass per year and fly to every asean Nation you wanted to. Now you may not like flying but it illustrates the point. Kuala Lumpur, singapore, Kuching, I'll have sufficient the geography of The Straits of Malacca and straight to Singapore. That's what works for me what you need to do is figure out what works for you to take the burden off your back literally. That's a lot of weight to carry physically in addition to the burden of travel. You can still do this. If you want to do so. It's not just what you're doing, it's how also you're doing it that is so important. Rest up, think, make some decisions, just please keep us informed. Thanks for sharing so much. Thank you for confirming my feelings about Kuching. You made a difference.

Not sure how long you will last back in Europe. Bloody freezing!! Spent Xmas and New year in the Philippines, typical English weather, absolutely pissed down with rain every day until the day of my departure. Still hot though. Flew with cathay pacific as well, Hong-Kong airport at 11pm is a waste of time, only a McDonald's open,not my favourite. Found the smoking area near gate 10,upstairs in the garden. 1duty free shop, £22 for 200, only good thing about the place . 13 hours to Zurich, not a bad flight though, plenty of food available. Back to Manila on the 19th of February. Meeting a few mates who got a fantastic price flight from Heathrow. £450 each return. China Southern? Enjoy Darlington and the lousy weather and i will look out for you on KZbin.
