Thank you Lloyd! Always good to learn about guitar options.

Cool review. Lots of guitars 10x the price of that guitar don't come with a case. I'm a big fan of Ibanez. My only electric looks pretty much the same except that it isn't Ibanez, but the neck plate does say made in Japan. My mother bought it for me for my 16th birthday and it still plays well. I initially bought it in part because I could hear it without an amp. It is showing its age and instead of doing upgrades and a re-fret I've been considering buying another one similar to the one I already own. It is reassuring to hear good things about models that aren't as pricey as the prestige models. Who knows, I still might treat myself to a prestige model, but like I said, it's good to know that you can't go wrong with more affordable models. Cheers! P.S. The AS73 retails for $699 here in Canada.

Very useful and well explained. It's one of my favourite tunes to play the changes because it is (mainly) ll V without going to the l, but Geez does it move around! Challenging, but always rewarding. Thank you for your tips and hints, Lloyd! 👏
@lloydenglishguitarstudio63317 күн бұрын
That's so nice to hear kind comments and they are much appreciated. This is a fun tune and yes it moves around but there are ways to get around the movement. Defining every chord is an ideal and an excellent way to practice and hear but you can also take a progression like Am - D7 - Bm - Em and play over it like the II - V - III - VI in the key of G. That said, you always have to be sensitive to the changes but that is a legit approach as well. Have a great day, L

Hey Ken, that's good to hear, I shot several that are in the cue for release. Feel very comfy in the blues idiom, used to be in a very good Chicago blues quartet in my late teens to early 20s and it just stuck. Have a great day, L

The comping pointers are very helpful too! When playing the melody and moving up the neck do you have any suggestions or tips to read the sheet music? I would think learning the notes on the Fretboard is the process to enable one to move up and down the neck.
@lloydenglishguitarstudio63318 күн бұрын
Hey Ken, after more years teaching than I care to admit I've learned that learning to read is a very systematic process, similar to learning a foreign language. If you are interested in becoming a competent reader I would suggest William Leavitt's Berklee Series, start with book one which jumps right into reading in C major and quickly progresses to I - IV - V notation reading and Etudes and studies, great book, a standard for guitar pedagogy. best, L PS - it's really impossible to teach reading on YT :)

Yes, thanks Ken. I have used this technique a lot over the years in my private teaching. I just shot another video with Just Friends and a play along track as well and I use the diatonic passing tone between the 1 and 3 as well, like C maj7 - C - D - E. D being the passing tone. Cm - C - D - Eb etc. Glad I am being of help, best and thanks for your kind comments. L

How does tension and release work with making melodies is it the same as chords
@lloydenglishguitarstudio633127 күн бұрын
That's a great question. Yes, tension and resolution is built in to melodic line as well as harmony. Take a 9th or a 13 as examples. A 9th is a tone above the tonic or tonal centre and its natural gravity is to fall to the tonal centre, if you prevent that it creates tension. These tensions are used all the time and should be recognised so that you can manipulate them either in melodic line or in supporting harmony. The same holds true for a 13 as another example, the 13 wants to fall to the strong 5th (12th). These colors and tensions are what make chords like add 9's, 13ths, 9ths, major 9's, add 6ths etc sound interesting and rich and the same goes for good melodic writing or improv. L
