The comping pointers are very helpful too! When playing the melody and moving up the neck do you have any suggestions or tips to read the sheet music? I would think learning the notes on the Fretboard is the process to enable one to move up and down the neck.

Hey Ken, after more years teaching than I care to admit I've learned that learning to read is a very systematic process, similar to learning a foreign language. If you are interested in becoming a competent reader I would suggest William Leavitt's Berklee Series, start with book one which jumps right into reading in C major and quickly progresses to I - IV - V notation reading and Etudes and studies, great book, a standard for guitar pedagogy. best, L PS - it's really impossible to teach reading on YT :)
