I think it’s both Of course his success created the movie that really can’t be understated like that is so obvious People definitely knew who he was so it’s wrong of people to say nobody knew him before his book or the movie as anyone who studies Economics in high school could become aware of him without knowing about the movie But we wouldn’t see him in so many interviews if it wasn’t for the incredibly successful and well known movie but I guess that isn’t success and maybe he doesn’t get paid for those appearances so perhaps a major success since the movie is a rise in his book’s sales which most probably happened
