I'm looking into getting a Sea Eagle boat at the beginning of May. The Fasttrack seems to meet my needs a little more than the Explorer, but I've heard of some seam issues with the FT. How has your boat held up? Are these mostly older kayaks that have this problem?

I was happy to see that the bag opens up and you don’t have to try still fling it in an enclosed bag. I am going to order it today.

In the event that the skeg base is folded improperly and becomes warped use a hairdryer to heat it up and bend it back into shape. It will retain its shape after it cools. Sea Eagle says to never hammer the skeg into place as it can damage the skeg. These instructions are in the manual under repairs.

Is it recommended to use the provided paddles or is investing into other types of paddles? Also has anyone used it for fishing?
@HowardLindafromRV-Dreamscom3 жыл бұрын
Hi Michael, We always used the provided paddles. They were 4-piece paddles and were easy to pack and store. No need for high performance paddles as these are not high performance boats. But if you would feel more comfortable with a different paddle, by all means do it. As for fishing, this really isn't a fishing kayak, although I did fish out of ours a few times. No real worries about hooks puncturing, but it's a hard boat to keep steady for fishing, especially if you are by yourself.

Good tips. Thanks. I took out our 385 today for the first paddle. We tried it solo and tandem, and although it paddles well tandem, it’s definitely more responsive and pleasant to paddle when it’s lighter (solo). We bought two, and will keep them both. Likely will paddle solo unless we have guests to share the second kayak with.

Thank you for making this instructive video. I just ordered my first kayak yesterday and am very excited -- and a little uncertain, we being out of shape 60-somethings (64 and 67). I've watched several videos and read many reviews on the SE370. One thing I've wondered about was the potential for valve O-ring denting, which can happen when the valve body lies across the O-ring during storage (as stated in their PDF manual). I keep asking myself why don't they recommend simply closing the valves to protect them before rolling/folding up the kayak?

@howardpayne70323 жыл бұрын
It's been so long now, I don't remember, and though I know I have that data somewhere, I can't locate it. I do know that we had plenty of safety margin for the added weight on the 2005 F450 (commercial chassis).

I brushed the burner while it was still in the unit. The flame was not the pure blue and the thermocouple as not getting the right flame for it to work. Once the burner was clean, I verified after re-assembly that the flame was burning from all openings as designed, and the thermocouple was getting its proper temp. Now the refrigerator works great on propane!

Can you tell me if your skews bend in the bag.
@HowardLindafromRV-Dreamscom4 жыл бұрын
Hi Julie, The skegs can bend in the bag if you roll the boat up too tight and have the skegs on the "inside" rather than on the "outside". You do have to be careful with them and use the inflatable skeg protectors that should have come with your boat to help. We were able to keep our skegs from bending, but we did have to pay attention on the SE370.

Four years later and your video is still helping people. My 370 is being delivered today in SW Florida to use in the gulf and our many backwater tributaries. The first thing I noticed was how you had rolled up the boat for storage. I’ve seen other folks comment how the skegs get misshapen while being stored. Making sure the skeg end is rolled up last like you did should help with that. Again, thanks for the excellent video.

That was an excellent pack up video. I bought mine from Tim also. When I return from a paddle I wash the FT with Dawn and water and air dry prior to a storage pack up. I will unpack it tomorrow follow your fold schedule which achieves a more compact total than my old method did. The paddles in the exterior is a good idea

The floor panel and hull are the very last sections to inflate. Why?!!.. You've got three attempts to guess it right... G.L.
@Canalvee4 жыл бұрын
No idea but I just bought one so I’d love to know.
@igorzavoritko57634 жыл бұрын
@@Canalvee Thank you for asking! I've been extensively using SeaEagle 385 FT and 465 FT for a few years already. At the very beginning I tried inflating the kayak in different ways suggested by SeaEagle folks and other SeaEagle customers... and stuck with the most efficient and simplest way of doing so. In order to have kayak inflated evenly and, consequently, cutting through the water absolutely straight, inflate 100% both main side chambers and only after start inflating the floor panel which automatically will set itself evenly between main chambers... and you good to go! Should you have any issues aligning the floor panel, inflate it to 60-70%, make required adjustments and finish inflating the kayak. With a foot pump I inflate my 465 FT under 5 min. Easy!..
@Canalvee4 жыл бұрын
@@igorzavoritko5763 Mine is coming by end of day today. Very excited. It’s 385pro. I will set it up in the house a few times first. A bit concerned about the floor panel but I have to wait to see it. So there are three inflate valves? In one video it show the keel (I assume that is the floor) valve being inflated first. Hmmm. I think your way sounds more logical. Big question: Do you have to actually remove the floor panel for drying every time? Thanks again, Virginia
@igorzavoritko57634 жыл бұрын
@@Canalvee I hope you’ve already received your new toy and had a chance to set it up. The big answer first: yes, you will need to remove the floor panel for drying the kayak completely. Even going for a spin a few times a week, I dry the kayak only every 2-3 weeks. Keeping kayak wet longer than that makes wet parts slimy. I pull out the floor and wash thoroughly all wet internal surfaces. You’ll figure it out. Enjoy!
@Canadarago4 жыл бұрын
A suggestion: carry a 12’ or larger tarp. Inflate, deflate and pack the 370 on the tarp. It may seem like an inconvenience but you’ll spend less time trying to get sand, dirt, leaves and/or grass on the 370. The tarp is especially useful if you’re launching from a gravel beach (possible sharp points).
@2000orni4 жыл бұрын

We're debatng the 385 Fast Track vs the longer (and heavier) 465 Fast Track. We are 2 people (size & height similar to you guys). I was wondering if you ever "wished you got the longer Fast Track model"? I've heard it's more stable, but of course it's heavier for carrying around outside the water -- but it can hold gear better than the 385 can (like a picnic cooler. etc). Any thoughts on one vs the other? Thanks for the video!
@howardpayne70324 жыл бұрын
Hi Mike, We never wished we had gone with the 465. If we were taller, probably. If we did more paddle-in camping, probably. But for our day trip paddling at our height, the 385 was fine for us. Here is one thing - in the 385, I was able to press my feet up against the back of Linda's seat giving her more back support, and I may not have been able to do that in the longer 465 (although I have no actual experience there).

It's very obvious that Norcold screwed up the design for owner maintenance. The struggle you had trying to access the screws and nuts is unaccepted. Bad design. For one thing, it shouldn't have Phillips screws. When you put it back together, I would recommend different screws and a little grease on the threads.
@albertschmeder44923 жыл бұрын
To remove that pesky screw, start with a right-angle Phillips. After a few partial turns, it will be loose, and a stubby can easily do the rest.
