ordered a Purple Road King in 2000 [hundred dollars down which girlfriend paid] got it April 2002, $16,000. still riding 130,000 all original except for the tensioners, installed gear drive at 74,000. It's slow by everyone's standard but mine lol, it just runs so good. i do all maintenance except for internals, otherwise I wouldn't be able to own it. Not sure how long it will go I'm 66, hope the bike goes longer than me, cause I ain't done yet. owned a few bikes before the HD. Yamaha's,Triumph, I was riding a goldwing before the Harley, kinda miss the wing for the radio, no vibration, smooth as silk ride and the shaft drive. however that 22 year old bike and me have bonded i believe.

You jarred my old memory cells. There is a custom bike builder in Summerville, SC that sells all the parts taken from the Harleys he customizes. Such as rims w/tires, throttle & clutch cables, saddlebags, etc. Have you thought about any places like that to get OEM rims for your bike? I tried to give the name & address but KZbin deleted my 1st comment.

Got curious about the blue bike with the yellow/red CZ logo...it's for Ceska Zbrojovka which translates to Czech Weapons. The word motorcycle in English was to advertise their bikes in the US and UK. They were huge in motocross in the 60's. James Dean's first bike was a CZ.

@@harleydrifter l have been very lucky with my Sportster.l have had my Sportster for 25 years and still on the original engine. Ironically I bought it so I would have many places to take it for engine work etc. Now she is 25 years old and no shop will touch her. She doesn't leak oil or burn it . Got a another set of Kenda Kruisers for her. New shoes for a old horse 🐎.

Kudos to the Ride Factory (Brian) for taking the time to explain the issues and why they fixed/changed out parts..... seen this shop many times over on Shadetree's Channel..but never this in depth......

When he was mentioning the years involved, I had heard about the 7-11 problem. Bikes from 07 to 11 had a specific flaw in a bearing and I think one other part. Hopefully he's gotten them all.

It was the compensator spring pack. Harley used the 88 ci. ones for the 96 ci. engine. I already dealt with that a couple of years ago.

Try out your magnesium stick. If it's from Harbor Freight, it's worthless. At least mine was junk. And NO, the tared line is not messy. You'd almost never know it was tared. Worth it.

@cowboy7x I don't remember where the mag stick came from, so I will definitely test that. Thanks for the info on the tarred bank line.

The reason harley outsold the Japanese in the 80s was the motorcycle tariff that was implemented I believe due to harley. They were winning the large cc sales because there was a 45% tariff placed on any motorcycle larger than 700cc. Just a thought I wanted to add. Still love my harley. 😊

Yes that is the old Cellar Door.... I was born in 1962 ...graduated high school in 1980 ..and I can tell you personally ..I have been drunk inside that bar so many times. I have met so many wild women inside that bar and I've even had a few little fights inside that bar.. of course with no one that didn't deserve it...😂😂😂.... And now every time I pass that bar ...which is probably once a day!!! I will think of you on that second floor and I will smile...😃.. Thank you for having the guts to go up in there.....
