I would like to know why heating the starter does some good? Seeing where you had the torch, you were not heating the solenoid, you were heating the starter end cover area. Are you heating the starter shaft bushing? Are the brushes stuck and heat moves them around, like when you rap on a starter with a hammer? Or is there ice inside it? Also, have you done an ampere draw on that starter? It may have a partial short soaking up lots of battery or it may have a partial open (brushes) not allowing full power to the starter. If you don't have a big ammeter, like on a VAT tester, you can use a VOM to measure the voltage the drop between the starter and the battery. Begin with a check across the battery itself, while cranking. Be sure to test directly on the actual lead terminal extending out of the battery to eliminate the cable connection. Then check for a voltage drop (while cranking) from battery to ground AT THE STARTER. Then again to starter input. That starter looks like a Delco Remy "style" with an external connection from the solenoid to the starter, that flat copper conductor that scoots across the top of the starter barrel to where it goes inside the starter is your pick up point. Those two readings will give you the overall drop in power. It should be less then 0.4 volts. If not isolate the drop at each connection. Like battery posts to wire connectors on both sides. Then from solenoid battery "IN" to ground, and solenoid "OUT" to ground. That'll tell you if it's inside the solenoid. After making certain all the connections are clean and tight from both sides of the battery to the solenoid in and out and the ground side are all less than 0.4 volts drop, if it still won't crank it over quick enough, run that starter to a starter shop. If warming the engine made it roll over easier, in my humble opinion, unless you have 30W oil in it, the starter, battery, wiring or connection are at fault. Starters are electrical but once you get it running, you kind of forget about it unless you have to use lights. Your Diesel is "electric free" once it's running it doesn't need any, but it has to be there in the beginning. A fully charged battery with clean and tight connections and a good starter, and the right engine oil weight, is the formula. Sometimes if someone replaced a wire with a smaller gauge will mess it up. The system is that finely tuned. My experience is heavy oil and a weak battery is the cause most of the time, but heating the starter is an indicator that something else is going on. OK (eh) ben/ michigan

@@benjamincresswell3713 lol I’m not sure what freezes in it or if it’s just cold so hard to spin so the heat helps? I can’t say exactly what it is but it works anyway 😂 and yes it seems to be drawing harder then it should but when it’s warm it has no issues at all but if I start having any more trouble with it I may have to take it to a professional to have a look at it :p

Lmao 🤣 I should have explained that! We couldn’t do that cuz the cutting edge of the plow cuts the straps when it pulls up on it now if I had a chain with me then we would have used that to hook to the plow frame at the bottom then a strap onto the chain so the strap was past the plow and wouldn’t get cut. But good observation! 🤣
