What do you mean "never really got credit for it"? Despite being far less skilled than musicians like Willie Dixon, Little Walter, Hubert Sumlin, or Lonnie Johnson he is now, and basically always has been, much better known than they ever were.

This man was a MURDERER. He broke out of Prison, murdered his cousin three years later and went back to prison. He then LITERALLY sang his way out of jail by writing a song to the governor and went on to do many more songs.

Yes, he wasn’t perfect, no one is. Elvis by today’s standards would be a pedo, chuck berry would be seen as a s*x offender. In fact most rocks stars would’ve been canceled long ago and labeled s*x offenders or pedos lol -> Steven Tyler, mick jagger, Jerry Lee Lewis the list is too long 😭, 1 of my favorite bands Noir Desir their lead singer did some years for deleting his mistress and the band has been making new music off and on since his release from prison.. i Can’t think of any others 😅

It’s amazing how many of his songs were covered by artists that had hits and made so much money off of them. I hope the family gets money for licensing. So many songs too.
