Was wondering why a 2 year period was chosen, rather than say 6 months? 😀
@GeniusDogChallenge3 ай бұрын
Thank you for the lovely question! Our previous study already tested object label retention for 2 months. There are also a few studies demonstrating the ability of dogs to remember other stimuli for at least one year. So in this study we decided to examine a time period that has not yet been tested.

I had a springer spaniel that learned a new toy within a couple minutes. I could pile them in my sons playpin, he had over 60 toys, stuffed animals, different colors and shapes. I'd say, get your blue elephant... he'd dig in the pile for that toy . He knew them all... he was soooo smart. I miss him a lot.

I’ve had 3 “puppies” (one was a year old, and born deaf) all cockapoos; from the same breeders. They may have up to three litters at a time. All their puppies are whelped in their living room, in large horse troughs filled with kitty litter (?). The adult dogs, the moms, (about 10 bitches) and roughly 2-3 sires. Two cats live there and a big boxer. All the dogs rotate through the house, and everyone who comes into the house Ie friends, families etc meets and greets the puppies, from birth. These guys have the best temperaments, are outgoing, and all seem to be happy. When we went to FL to pick up our first guy, the breeders insisted we bring our one year old guy … Ollie Pup, for him to interact with Mr. Morgan. There’s way more to the story …If anyone is interested i’m happy to share … you’re probably able to figure out how to contact me directly. These guys are amazing. Thanks. Dr Dunbar is spot on.

Hi! I find this fascinating! I also feel my dog might possibly be a gifted word learner. I read that you could participate in the study to see but whenever I click on the link, they are broken. So my question is, does it only apply to toy knowledge, or can other commands work? She loves catch and with that, searching. Alot of the words she understands are realted more to those... For example, if I throw the ball, she understands left or right and will pivot immediately for that. To help her find it, she understands.. too far,. behind you etc...to help find the ball. And then things related to that. If she brings you something, I can tell her I can't reach it, and I can point to different objects and she will get those for me. And more related with that sort of play. However she does also understand the difference too between bring me a ball or stick and she will bring that. Anyways, I find this fascinating and would love to find out. And now that I have found this video I will try the toys! Thank you for your research and time!

What if two toys would be made from the same material & treated in the same way thus probably have similar odour? Also, how come that the odour on a plastic toy doesn't change that much that it can actually create a stable representation in the doggo's mind?

put him on a leash so you can easily step on the leash also inside the house, and controll his "freedom" and can use the word leave it command, You give freedom whenever focus change and you say good or whatever positive word you want to use to reinforce the good behaviour.

Do they think of toys as play prey ?
@infinitemonkey9172 жыл бұрын
@@roseychicka2298 I guess it depends on the dog and the toy. I had a shepherd mix that would shake a toy squirrel hard as if it was prey. She would also bring all of her toys to 1 area. I think fetching a ball is like honing in on small prey.

Why are border collies so smart?

I have a gifted border collie/ pitbull mix, Pisces. One of her favorite toys, a stuffed panda that kinda looks like her. We call it her baby. I find it interesting, when the dog in the video went to get the dolphin, it was like he didn't want to pick it up. My dog does this with her Baby and i believe it's because she wants to preserve the toy. When she was a puppy she would have torn it apart. As a 10 year old, she is very careful not to destroy her favorite toys.

I have a street dog, adopted here in Cuenca Ecuador! A country that has only begun to treat animals as “family pets”. Mostly, because, since I moved here 9years ago, many Ecuadoreans have returned from living in “first world” country’s, where pets are treated differently. Allí an say, is that my little street doggo, who seems to be a Dachshound -terrier-maybe Schnauzer/Yorkie mixed up! He’s a real mutt….BUT this little 14 lb male doggy named Moeses (Moe) has killed THREE BIG RATS within 6 months! I’ve been home all three times, and would HEAR a different bark/grower than normal outside! The second time, the rat was not completely dead! These rats are half his size! He listens with such intelligence, and also tells us what he wants or needs! The only negative, is that I have to take him to vet each time after murdering the rat…..to get parasite med, and any booster for his normal vaccines. Bathed and teeth brushed too😖ick! He’s the most interesting doggy I’ve ever had in my life!

Look for books by Ian Dunbar and Zak George. Kikopup on KZbin. Teach your pup his name, how to Sit on cue, how to Down. Look at all the info about how to stop a pup from biting very early. After the pup is vaccinated, - listen to this video - expose the pup to 100 people, and expose the pup to 100 nice dogs, and walk the pup in hardware stores, pet stores, Feed Stores to get lots of experience.

Hello April. I have 30 plus years and veterinary medicine. I work with the veterinarians. I know way more than most people in the field. If you will take your dog to a veterinarian one that you have a personal recommendation From someone you know This is not hard to do Post it on Facebook and ask people in your area who they love and listen closely if anything resounds go to that doctor and tell them your issue I guarantee you it will not be difficult to get what you need to help this puppy.. They're on medications called serotonin reuptake inhibitors what it does is keep the happy chemicals that your brain makes in the brain and that will chill the puppy. Then if you are willing to take the time the veterinarian or a friend will have a trainer that will train you how to deal with the pet. It's not that hard guaranteed!

Dear Ma'am, Please consider crate training . It will sort out the issue instantly. All the best

Thank you - she had a crate at her former home but they had to part with it and the dog did the same thing at their house when they tried to leave the house - when crate was in place she seemed demented! In the past I had none of this with dogs and neither were there crates around but I also had no problems with dogs being afraid of fireworks whereas this JR gets into a rage and bites the nearest thing! Thank you for your input ..
