It's currently 1:19am on August 22, 2024, and I know this video is from 7 yrs ago, just finished watching it, but I've been relearning art since last year in the summer (picking up from when I was in 3rd grade) and I've watched many videos since last summer and this one really gave me sooo many tips and made me understand some basic things that I was not aware of. So thank you for making this video. I now understand why it's been frustrating for me. But I'm definitely one of those that want to color properly and am willing to learn to do it well. I'll be looking to the KZbinrs you've mentioned. Thank you for sharing!

Love the color pencils they offer great effects and can blend well with alcohol markers.

I did a youtube stumble onto your videos... the Fates work in mysterious ways. You speak to the beginners with integrity. Awesome! Your encouragement and subtle explanations of the fits and starts of trusting 'you have the ability' are appreciated. Thank you for your energy, and faith, that we can all create and enjoy art.

the only challenge is that when replacing one color, one cannot just spend $2 and walk out! :)

I agree completely with the happy parent notion. I am not a parent, but I do live with my partner, but he is very supportive of my coloring. I have only been coloring about 6 months. I started with very poor quality pencils and a single coloring book that was a gift. I had been quite ill and was having tremors in my hands. I didn't do much of anything. I now color every day. The tremors in my right hand are barely noticable and even my penmanship is improved. I am much happier and I am much more independent. I have three sets of moderately inexpensive pencils and a mix of old pencils from my days teaching in the industrial arts, my cousin the architect, and my cousin the the costume designer. So I even have some Prismacolor premiers though they are now stubs. But I recommend coloring to most of my friends and acquaintances that need a little distraction from the rest of their lives. I am lucky to have found coloring and I am going to start sketching and drawing again to do my own original work as soon as I get my confidence back. Thanks for the video.😊

I use an inclined board when i color. I find it more comfy than when i color on a regular table. The major drawback though is it's difficult to work on books so i mostly tear pages off.

I use embossing powder, it’s very fine glitter and beautiful when you use your heat gun on it. Some of the embossing powder will puff up but others simply melt into the paper. I have to get the glue sticks!

Thank you for this video that shows us how to use soft pastels as a background. The problem I had was that the pastels wanted to bunch up on the Q-tips and it would only leave one dark spot on the paper and then quit while the rest of it stayed caked on the Q-tip. I had the same problem when I tried to use a dry powdery eye shadow. Is it because I applied the cotton tip directly to the pastel stick instead of scraping the pastel off onto a plate first? It really seemed to want to stick firmly to the cotton, and also to the dry eye shadow applicator. I think I answered my own question. No skipping the scraping the pastel onto the plate, right? Wonderful video for those of us who obviously don't know a thing about what we're doing when it comes to using soft pastels. Your picture was very beautiful, and all your instruction was really, really appreciated. Thank you!

Thank you for this video on how to use soft pastels for backgrounds. My problem was that if I tried to rub a Q-tip onto a pastel it would clump up in the cotton and just put a tiny dark spot of pastel on the paper. Is that because I tried to take the color directly from the pastel instead of scraping the pastel into a powder on a plate first? The same thing happened when I tried to substitute powder eye shadow for the pastel.

Love it! I look forward to coloring, like a child getting an ice cream cone. I am not very good yet, but l still look forward to it and tips like yours help me along to get better. Oh! If I do skip days I too feel almost like writers block for colorists or Poof I am almost feeling like I am starting over again, hence your video. Much thanks.

Thank you so much to make a video that is simple for beginners to follow. Please continue making this kind of video. I get so intimidated with other videos OMG!!! to me it take the fun out of coloring with so much techniques. I understand I would love to color one day the same way but boy as a beginner I gust want to put down the coloring book and never picked up again to be honest. Thank you so much and 🙏🏼 keep making more simple videos. Love it.. I have a Sherry Baldy coloring book that is super cute that I want to try but there is not a lot of videos to watch for this kind of book
