I love Polychromos and have been using them with the Prismas for many years. I am also enjoying Nice Little Town even though the paper is challenging. Those little mice are adorable.

I love watching color alongs, especially when you are using a brand I don't have. I enjoy watching your technique and learning by watching you. It is very helpful for me to watch someone else. Hi Jenn! Haha, to be fair, my life isn't very exciting either, but I do have a LOT to keep track of. I work full time, have two teenage kids, manage a household, pay all the bills, and manage this channel and its associated social media pages. I keep a main planner for appointments, work tasks, around-the-house tasks, reminders, etc. I keep a second planner for KZbin & social media associated with Simple Art for Adults. Finally, I keep a small bullet journal that I use for budgeting and finances. I have income from numerous sources, so budgeting is a little complex for me. The system I use makes it a LOT easier. I'll do a video on all of this soon.

I guess that's really what you did in this particular video. Thanks again!
@SimpleArtforAdults6 жыл бұрын
You're very welcome! They are definitely a different pencil than Prismacolor, but they have their advantages at the same time. They are translucent, which means when you layer them, you can see the colors below each layer. This makes it really easy to create depth, and that can be tough with the Prismas since they're so very opaque. Just play around with them on some scrap paper, and try to create your own color combos. That's one of the absolute best ways to practice!

Loving this video. I'm new to the polys and I'm loving them. I have found it harder to find color combos for them than the prismas. Do you do greyscale and if so which brand of pencil do you prefer for them? I received some greyscale books for my birthday and not sure which pencils would be best to use on them.
@SimpleArtforAdults6 жыл бұрын
Hi Kathy! The pencils I use for grayscale really depends on the paper. Because you can see through the Polychromos, they're a pretty good choice! Prismas work too, but they're trickier because they become more opaque as they pile up. I'm so glad you're enjoying the video!
@SimpleArtforAdults6 жыл бұрын
As for color combos, I'm not sure if there's a Facebook group for that or not! Check out Colour with Claire's website, too. She has a whole bunch of Polychromos combos ready to go.

You mentioned the cutting mat, but I didn't catch the purpose. It is for a harder surface under your page? Thanks
@SimpleArtforAdults6 жыл бұрын
Hi Janine! You've got it! It keeps me from "denting" the page behind the one I'm working on. The backs of some pages are black, too, and pushing hard can transfer the ink to the next page. The cheapie little "writing board" prevents all of that.

Erin, my Prisma are Scholars&new. They dont sharpen well&one is split. They came with a sharpener. The tips are breaking & fall out. Am I doing something wrong? I sharpen the way you do. Should I invest in the better Prismas? Love FC, no problem there & my water colors. Purchased from Amazon, dont want to go thru the trouble of sending back. Thanks.
@SimpleArtforAdults6 жыл бұрын
It seems like maybe they were damaged in the post or dropped. They are VERY soft cores, and they will shatter all the way through if they are mishandled. Prismacolor's customer service has always been incredibly good to me, so I'd recommend taking photos of the problems you're having, then contacting them. They should set you up with a good resolution!
@kitsala16 жыл бұрын
Simple Art for Adults , thanks Erin, I contacted Prismacolors direct, talked with a very nice customer service,&they are sending me a return envelope, & will replace them. Dawn said this shouldn't be happening. Maybe just a defective bunch.

Is there an easy way to begin keeping my color chart/swatches in a journal? I can't afford the book on amazon and I don't know when I'll have money for ink for my printer again. Hobby and disabiliy income don't go well together. I thought I might be able to find a journal at the dollar tree. Thank you.
@SimpleArtforAdults6 жыл бұрын
In this case, I'd actually recommend picking up some plain paper (cardstock, preferably), a hole punch, and a binder. I know Dollar Tree has the binders, and mine has the hole punch, but I don't know about cardstock. Mine doesn't carry it. Just punch out your pages to fit in the binder, label them appropriately, and go to town! I like it this way because you can easily move pages around if you need to do so. For example, in a journal, if you have one page set aside for Poly combos and it fills up, but the next page is your Prisma swatches, then you're going to have your Poly combos spread all over the book. With a binder, you can move things as you need to and keep it all organized! I hope this helps!
@stacydavis45696 жыл бұрын
Simple Art for Adults That sounds great. Do you think the dollar store has that pretty tape use? I'm disabled and don't usually get out except for doctors appointments. I've been wanting to go to the dollar store since I've been seeing all the colorin book hauls from there. I wish they'd have a Hannah Lynn coloring book. Thank you again.

I am beginning to colour in Nice Little Town. 4 + 5. A problem I am running into in each of books is that when I blend with prisma colourless blender it is picking up the black lines plus greyscale areas. They are being dragged into light colour areas giving a muddy look. I use prisma pencils Has any of you experienced this problem? Any ideas out there? Maggie
@SimpleArtforAdults6 жыл бұрын
Yes, Maggie! This is something that happens in the books that are printed by CreateSpace, and there's not much you can really do about it. It'll happen with the blender and sometimes even with the lighter-colored Prismacolor pencils. Really, all we can do is try to avoid the black lines as much as possible, and for that, you'll need a really sharp blender pencil. For me, I just try not to let it bother me too terribly much. Unless it's REALLY bad, you can't see it when you take a photo and share it anyway.
@margaretsmith99546 жыл бұрын
Maggie Pentecost hi Maggie, try the Caran D’Ache blender, it does not pick up and drag the prismacolor colour around. I had the same problem. No problem using the Caran D’Ache blender, takes a bit longer to blend, but better results. Hope this helps.
@85nakasha6 жыл бұрын
Very interesting tutorial. :) Still, after using a blender, I can see a lot of grainy surface... Personally I have problems with perfectly smooth blend with Polychromos, I need to use a solvent and put about 20 layers to get it right... Very tiring and slow. ;) Prismas take about 7 - 8 layers to get a smooth coverage with no paper grain visible. Still, I think Polychromos are great for details. :)
@SimpleArtforAdults6 жыл бұрын
It is a little tricky to get it done, but it's possible with practice! The paper makes a big difference in how saturated the pigment lays down with each layer, as well.
