I like how you just didn't mention the teric can use a range of transmitters including aqualung that are vastly cheaper and do the same thing where as the Garmin you can only use their sonar bullshit transmitter and listen to audible beeps every 4 seconds of your dive

The heat shrink I got from Amazon was black. The tan one in the video was from neritic. I bought a neritic grip kit when I got the pole spear. In terms of quality and price, the Amazon version was the better choice.

Underwater both screens perform fantastic. The main differences I saw were in direct sunlight. The Teric screen is very bright below surface and does a good job overall, the MK2i screen performs good as well as long as the brightness it turned up to 100% while in dive mode. The MK3i no longer uses a MIPLCD screen and the switched to an amoled much like the Teric uses.

@divesoflo
@divesoflo 10 ай бұрын
I was actually thinking about doing a comparison from the MK2i to the mk3i. Towards the early part of 2023, I switched solely to the MK2i as my dedicated dive computer and outdoor watch. Many things influenced that decision aside from scuba diving, garmins customer service is ridiculously good. I’ve had the pleasure of dealing with shearwaters customer service and I thought it was good, but garmins is on another level altogether. I’m excited to see the mk3i for the improvements they have made, it’s a shame that the battery life took a hit from the MK2i.

Nice video. The adapter is great for mixing manufacturers products. I hunt the reefs with a Gatku slip tip. Upon finding Lion fish I'd swim back to the boat and get the paralizer. The last time I was on a current dive (no boat) I had only one chance at the biggest Lion fish I ever saw. (Aprox 12"-16"?) I pulled the slip tip off, and used the injector rod to spear the fish. As long as I swam forward or held the spear pointing up out of the water the lion fish could not get off. I was even able to fling the fish off the spear on to the shore. The only way I could see that technique going wrong is if the fish ripped in half and fell on you! They may taste good, but if a Lion fish falls on you, you would likely never do such foolishness again.

I would assume the Garmin does not come with a case because they think you will wear it like a normal watch.
@divesoflo
@divesoflo 11 ай бұрын
Agreed but it would still be nice to have a case when you can’t wear it. There are times that a 52mm watch just isn’t an option. Because it covers a large area of your wrist, I like to give me skin a breather every now and then also.
@frosty3693
@frosty3693 11 ай бұрын
@@divesoflo True. I have an old Citizen Eco Dive watch that I leave on a window sill so it can solar charge. I am thinking about the new MK3I. I have a very small wrist so the 51mn is probably too big. I need to check to see what you lose if you go down the smaller version, other than the smaller screen. The MK3 will have air integration either way. I got a pair of binoculars that do not come with a case. They checked with their customers and they didn't use the case so it was wasted money. With a dedicated computer with less watch functionality I could see where it would be nice, especially with the charger.

@divesoflo
@divesoflo Жыл бұрын
@bretcoshnitzke905 it’s a hard decision. For me the deal breaker was all the time I wasn’t diving, my Teric sat around not being used. Other than being a great dedicated dove computer, it serves no other functions. It’s too big just to wear as a time keeper. The Garmin checked all the boxes for my use case. You just have to see what your going to use it for and make your decision that way.

Ive been running into the same problem with my HERO 9. It pretty much ruined documenting an AMAZING spearfishing trip in the Bahamas. I was beyond frustrated. Im leaning towards the Osmo action 3 because many tests show it doesn't overheat. Its tech specs show an operating temperature almost 20 degrees hotter than the Hero 11. Plus the white balance sensor is supposed to give a similar color correcting feature as the paralenz. How has your experience with the Hero 11 been so far? Most of the overheating ive had in the HERO 9 as been in shallower water, which in Lauderdale-by-the-sea means I can't get much footage.
@divesoflo
@divesoflo Жыл бұрын
The hero 11 has so far been great. I love the new color profile it has compared to the hero 9. Haven’t had any overheating issues. They went with a new battery to combat the overheating and so far so good. I am still going to get the osmo action 3 but I am waiting until all of the cameras with the focusing issue are out of circulation. I decided to use my old hero 9 recently as a “B” camera from another angle and for the first time in my life I got my first corrupted memory card. Just happen to be in the 9 but maybe it was just the memory card’s time to go.

Thanks for the comment Andrew, Go into the settings and increase the brightness to 100%, also do this while in dive mode. Direct sunlight is really where the display does its best work. The MIPLCD has a dot matrix look to it while it sunlight and to me is readable. I’ve never had an issue while diving or general use but in some cases I can see the display not being suitable. I’ve taken it diving, snorkeling, kayaking, golfing, and in general fitness use. I’ve really enjoyed it, but it’s not an AMOLED display but that has its own drawbacks. Direct sunlight AMOLED screens aren’t really legible and the glare doesn’t make it any better.
