the reason for custom transmitter is that it's range is around 10 meters, you can monitor upto 5 tanks (you can include yours as well as your buddy's)

Yes, transmitters have come a long way in the past few years. Shearwater came out with the "Swift" to compete with Garmins transmitter. I love both computers and the transmitters are top notch(swift and the legacy) but Shearwaters customer service is unmatched. I've contacted them twice and they go above and beyond to make sure your are a satisfied customer.

To be fair i think the general idea with the Garmin is that the box is unnecessary as you can wear it all the time, especially with the garmin's battery time in watch mode. But as a shearwater consumer i do agree - the box is nice. :) great review. i don't mind the different content. so many other channels have the specs in them, and it gives you the opportunity to add user experience info, and that takes time (kinda have to have the experience before you can report it) it solidified my final choise of not getting a garmin. i was close tho!
@divesoflo

Thank you for appreciating the content. The box is not necessary and your absolutely right, the MK2i is more of an all around lifestyle watch where the battery life and functions justifies wearing it all the time. If this video helped you make the right choice based on your needs than as a creator, it is the ultimate compliment. Thank you.

I used my Teric at the Bridge on a sunny day and was impressed at how well I could see everything.
@divesoflo
@divesoflo 3 жыл бұрын
In the water I never had an issue, but in direct exposed sunlight out of the water was where I saw the flaw in the AMOLED. It is not a deal-breaker that the sun affects it outside of the water because it is a dive computer whereas the mk2i has other functions. I am still a fan of the teric and I love Shearwater as a company. There are many things about the teric I wish were on the mk2i. To combine the wireless charging and clicky buttons into the mk2i would make for a great watch sized computer. Not a fan of garmins proprietary charging cable or the spongy buttons.

@@divesoflo I need to see the screen clearly underwater not above above water to be honest as its a "dive" computer. Garmin has a GPS and heart rate monitor that can be extras for diving also. As a dive computer point of view I will select Teric over Garmin

Background music is irritating. It would be cool to see the displays at 30’ under water. All in all a good review
@divesoflo
@divesoflo 2 жыл бұрын
There really was no issue underwater as both screens performed perfectly. The AMOLED on the Teric really shines underwater, no pun intended. The MK2i also looks really good underwater. The only thing you need to adjust with the Teric is the colors, no all text colors are best for above and below the surface. I’ve used both from 1’ to 100’ without any difficulty reading the screens. Others have commented on the music but I am unable to change that now. Thanks for watching and taking time to comment. I am looking this two Watch last month and at last I choose mk2i,no doubt I more love mk2i for several of activities not only just for diving.and mk2i can straight download my data to my phone when I come up from sea. I thought back and front cover were titanium?till now I am really love my mk2i

The fact that the mk2i can be used for other activities was the reason I made the switch. I use it for mountain biking and general cardio. That's why I made the switch from the Teric. Thanks for your comment.

You forget to mention how easy the straps are to change on the MK2i, I’ll switch them up often since I wear it as a everyday watch. Even throw a titanium band on it and take it to the board room!

I was actually thinking about doing a comparison from the MK2i to the mk3i. Towards the early part of 2023, I switched solely to the MK2i as my dedicated dive computer and outdoor watch. Many things influenced that decision aside from scuba diving, garmins customer service is ridiculously good. I’ve had the pleasure of dealing with shearwaters customer service and I thought it was good, but garmins is on another level altogether. I’m excited to see the mk3i for the improvements they have made, it’s a shame that the battery life took a hit from the MK2i.

Is the wireless tank transmitter beeping on the Garmin a deal breaker for you? Does Garmin say that its a design issue or is there a purpose for it? Seems like that should be worked out for dive computer costing $1850.... Thanks for the review!
@divesoflo
@divesoflo 3 жыл бұрын
It's not so much a design issue, it's has the high pitch chirp because of the sonar connectivity that garmin uses, which they call subwave. I am always going to be honest with you guys and this is my main dive watch computer now. The sonar chirp is not a dealbreaker. I no longer use the Teric. There are certain things about the Teric I miss, but the MK2i works much better for me. I absolutely love their dive log app, I find myself using the fitness tracker on the watch daily, battery life is exceptional, and I like the overall feel of the watch on my wrist. The subwave is annoying at times but that's the only thing I can find wrong with it. I use so many features with this watch that it makes sense. I am just an advanced open water recreational diver so I do not do tech diving, for me the MK2i checks all the boxes and I am very happy with it. They might come out with an update or a patch to fix the chirp and I wouldn't mind that, but for now I can live with it. Thanks for your comment.
@PeterJun
@PeterJun 2 жыл бұрын
Does the chirp bother other divers? Or scare away fish?
@divesoflo
@divesoflo 2 жыл бұрын
Peter, I haven't really heard any complaints from anyone that I dive with, but they have heard it while diving. I had mentioned to them that I hear it and I would get a reply like "oh is that what that was". So due to the distance between divers and whether or not they are even paying attention, they might not notice it. Garmin states that the subwave tech does not affect fish, but I will say that fish have been swimming up to me to the point where I can touch them and they do not swim away. I have never experienced that kind of interaction when I had my Teric so maybe it is just a coincidence or its the sonar tech.

@divesoflo 9 ай бұрын
Agreed but it would still be nice to have a case when you can’t wear it. There are times that a 52mm watch just isn’t an option. Because it covers a large area of your wrist, I like to give me skin a breather every now and then also.
@frosty3693
@frosty3693 9 ай бұрын
@@divesoflo True. I have an old Citizen Eco Dive watch that I leave on a window sill so it can solar charge. I am thinking about the new MK3I. I have a very small wrist so the 51mn is probably too big. I need to check to see what you lose if you go down the smaller version, other than the smaller screen. The MK3 will have air integration either way. I got a pair of binoculars that do not come with a case. They checked with their customers and they didn't use the case so it was wasted money. With a dedicated computer with less watch functionality I could see where it would be nice, especially with the charger.
@AlexeyDnepr

MK2i can track your heart rate underwater using a chest strap? The optical sensor on the wrist is inaccurate. In addition, the watch is worn on top of the wetsuit.
@divesoflo
@divesoflo 2 жыл бұрын
I find that the heart rate sensor built into the watch is actually very accurate. I have used this watch heavily over the past 6 months and I have found that it is within 5 beats give or take even with Sinus arrhythmia it still does a great job. The chest strap would do the trick if your wearing a wetsuit but I am a Florida diver, at most I only wear a rashguard.
@AlexeyDnepr
@AlexeyDnepr 2 жыл бұрын
@@divesoflo It's good news that they have improved the optical sensor. But yes, for a wetsuit, you need a chest strap. I've heard that Garmin chest straps don't transmit underwater. But maybe in the new model MK2i they did it.
@divesoflo
@divesoflo 2 жыл бұрын
I have never used the chest strap because I found the optical sensor has been spot on during diving, walking, jogging, and trail biking. I have checked this by palpating my radial pulse against the digital reading on the watch. I suspect you might be right about the chest strap not working underwater, I imagine that aspect has not improved on Garmins end.

You mention that Garmin Dive will only work with a phone. Will it also work with a tablet such as an iPad, or is it phone specific?
@divesoflo
@divesoflo 2 жыл бұрын
It is in the Google play store or the apple app store on phones or Google/apple based tablets and even chromebooks. There is no windows based application that I am aware of even now I cannot find one. Shearwater cloud offers that desktop version for windows. Eventually, I would assume garmin will launch a desktop version but until then the app on the phone is very easy to navigate and offers a great deal of dive info on it.

Does the MK2i GPS track and kind of take you back to boat or entry point of the dive? while diving etc?
@divesoflo
@divesoflo 2 жыл бұрын
I went out today to try to do that to see if it was possible and I was unable to figure that out. After the dive is over it does map your coordinates and it shows your entry and exit on a map where you can zoom in but it does not route you back to the boat. That would be a nice feature to have if your are anchored and the boat is in the same spot from entry to exit. It would not work for drift diving but still a cool feature.

My Suunto pod, doesnt fit in my Aqualung Mikron, I had to remove the hose cover. Does garmin has same issue?
@divesoflo
@divesoflo 3 жыл бұрын
If you are having an issue with the actual clearance with the Suunto tank pod, then you will also have an issue with the Garmin T1. I assume you had to remove the hose cover on your inflator hose right? I used to own a Suunto D4i Novo for a couple years and I know the transmitters are wide at the bottom and then cone shaped towards the top. I have also owned and used the Oceanic Atom 3.0 and Shearwater Teric, both used the same exact transmitter. The Garmin T1 is probably the largest Transmitter I have used out of the previous 3 transmitters I have owned. If you are looking to buy the Garmin MK2i with T1, a simple fix you can try is to purchase a 6" HP hose to hang the T1 from. This will solve a couple issues for you. You will be able to put your hose cover back on and when moving your gear around, nobody will try and lift from the T1. I hope This has helped you.

hi, any idea if Mk2i capable for: 1) Realtime+Continous ECG Heart Rate monitoring. 2) Realtime+Continous Blood O2 monitoring. 3) Realtime+Continous Skin/Body Temperature monitoring. thanks 🙏
@divesoflo
@divesoflo 3 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately there is no ECG monitoring. I was hoping there was when I purchased it, but it does not have that function. It does have real time pulse ox monitoring also with accurate heart rate monitoring. It does not have a real-time skin temperature setting that I can find in the watch. The only temperature it records is water temperature during the dive. However, there is an app in the connectIQ store called "estimated body temperature data" and this gives you an estimate of your temperature during physical activity based on your heart rate. It is probably not the most accurate temperature reading, but that is the only way I can find to record it. Thank you for your comment.
