Very moving recollection with your past . Braniselj is a very common family name at Notranjska (Inner Carniola) . Dinaric Alps = Javorniki (Yavorniky) mountain range. I live nearby and see this amazing picture every day. We are quite fortunate to be able to live here.

Thank you very much for your kind words! I appreciate knowing the precise name of those mountains. It was a beautiful walk through the countryside outside of Cerknica, on a gorgeous day. I was swept up in the moment. Your country is so verdant and lovely. I had wanted to visit there for years and it did not disappoint! I am honored to call it my ancestral homeland.

I live 30 km outside of Cerknica, it's a nice, lovely town. BTW, lake Cerknica is one of the largest intermittent lakes in Europe and you can rent a canoe and explore it. Your great grandfather had lots of cojones to leave home for unknown... It's a shame you didn't speak to any locals, they are very friendly and would love to help you to find out more about your great grandfather and his (yours) family. Great video!

Thank you very much for your kind comments! I agree that my great grandfather was very brave to board a ship in 1912 at age 18 and sail across the ocean by himself to start a new life in America. I'm very glad he did or I wouldn't be here! Next time I come through Slovenia, I hope to meet with some of my distant cousins who still live there, and I'd also love to canoe around the lake. I really appreciate your kindness. I didn't expect anyone to watch this video except for my family members in the U.S. - I'm happy that you enjoyed it. Thank you again!

Voyager, it's the Republic of Cyprus and the Turkish OCCUPIED northern area of Cyprus, this is the wording you should use to describe the situation. Not only the people in the south but the international community considers the northern area of the Cyprus Republic as occupied territory, following Turkey's invasion of Cyprus in 1974. This is why the so called ''TRNC'' is not recognised; it is a self declared regime by Turkey.

Cyprus in the period 1571 - 1959 Cyprus which was ruled by different suzerains, but which never in its entire history came under Greek rule, was conquered by the Ottomans in 1571 and ruled by them until 1878. Under Ottoman rule the Turks and Greeks of Cyprus lived in peace and harmony, despite their differences in terms of ethnicity, religion, language, culture and communal traditions. Unlike the Venetians, who were the previous rulers of Cyprus, the Turks enabled the Greek Cypriot population to flourish in all fields. In 1878, Great Britain assumed the provisional administration of Cyprus. In 1914, when the Ottoman Empire entered the First World War, Cyprus was unilaterally annexed by Great Britain. Turkey formally recognized this annexation with the signing of the Peace Treaty of Lausanne in 1923. Although the Turks and Greeks of Cyprus peacefully co-existed under the Ottoman Turkish administration, their relationship began to deteriorate following the take-over of the island by Great Britain. Under British rule, the Greek-Orthodox Church campaigned for the union of Cyprus with Greece (Enosis). Starting from the mid-1950s, this campaign was given support by Greece. EOKA was established as an underground terrorist organization to achieve this aim. Thus, the Enosis movement took a turn for violence, ostensibly against the British, but in fact with the objective of uniting the island with Greece. EOKA violence claimed British and Turkish Cypriot lives. From 1955 to 1958 Turkish Cypriots were driven away from mixed villages and their houses were burnt down. Greek and the Greek Cypriot coercion, killing and intimidation, however, failed to achieve its aims. Turkey and the Turkish Cypriots strongly opposed Enosis. Geopolitically, Cyprus was of great importance for the national security of Turkey and the Turkish Cypriots refused to accept Greek dominance and regarded Enosis as neo-colonialism. Britain, as the colonial power, also resisted Enosis and declared that the Turkish and Greek Cypriots were equally entitled to freely determine their own future. In the meantime, Greece made several attempts to exploit the UN as a means of realizing Enosis. However, the UN General Assembly did not support Greek demands designed to achieve annexation under the guise of self-determination, but urged a peaceful and just solution among the parties concerned.

i wonder can you shop on the north side and bring the stuff to the south?
@theinternationalvoyager
@theinternationalvoyager Жыл бұрын
Yes, for the most part you can bring goods you have purchased in the north through the checkpoints into the south. When you cross the checkpoints heading south there is a customs agent standing there making sure you are following the relevant regulations. According to the government of the Republic of Cyprus, you can bring goods you have purchased in the north into the south as long as they are accompanied by a receipt certifying that they originated in the north. Any goods worth more than €260 are subject to turnover tax and excise duty. There are lots of exceptions to this rule, including a prohibition on bringing in counterfeit goods, fine-cut tobacco, as well as radio equipment, animals, and other items. You can read the regulations here: www.mof.gov.cy/mof/customs/customs.nsf/All/05AEEF243C9BFC8BC22572BF002D0A28

You're right that Sarajevo is divided between the Federation of Bosnia-Herzegovina and the Serb Republic. But it is not divided by a wall and passport checkpoints between the two areas, like Nicosia is. As far as I remember, last time I visited, in 2017, people have complete freedom of mobility between the two zones in Sarajevo, with no physical barriers or authorities controlling movement between either side.

2 Minu Isa majas on palju eluasemeid. Pauluse esimene kiri Timoteosele 3:16 Tunnistatavalt suur on jumalakartuse saladus: Jumal on avalikuks saanud lihas, õigeks tunnistatud vaimus, nähtav olnud inglitele, kuulutatud paganatele, usutud maailmas, võetud üles kirkusesse.

9 pairs of underwear! My god man! 9 pairs! I've done months with 4 and sometimes I think that's too much. I think I'm taking too many socks but I haven't managed to reduce these in number below 6 pairs. 6 pairs of socks that are a mix between long, ankle and no show. In a couple of weeks I'm going to be going on a 4 day bus trip from Istanbul, Turkiye, to Vlorë, Albania, stopping in Sofia, Bulgaria; Skopje, North Macedonia; and Tirana, Albania. This will be in the dead of winter in the Balkans and it will be frigid. I was thinking of buying some wool socks for this trip. But I think I'll just follow your example and wear two at a time. Thanks for the tip! As for the underwear, to each his own! I don't know how I would get by with so few.

0:30 BOOM! Stop right there. Travelling in Europe on many of the respective airlines, only ONE bag is allowed not two. Check beforehand. Weight limits are very often just 7kg.
@theinternationalvoyager
@theinternationalvoyager Жыл бұрын
You're right - some European airlines don't allow you to carry a personal item bag along with a carry-on. And some allow only a personal item with no standard sized carry-on bag at all. Plenty of airlines worldwide, however, do allow a carry-on bag plus a personal item bag, like I've shown in this video, for no extra charge to the ticket. During most of my travels worldwide, I've carried these two bags as I've demonstrated here, with no issues, so this video should be used as a guide for flying under those rules (my bags are under weight and size requirements). That being said, on my most recent flight, last week, I flew from Bucharest, Romania, to Istanbul, Türkiye, on Pegasus Airlines, and they did not allow a personal item bag along with my carry-on bag. This presented me with a challenge. So I went into the airport restroom and stuffed my laptop and umbrella and underwear packing cube in the Osprey backpack, and managed to stuff my toiletry case and liquid bag in the pockets of my hoodie that was tied around my waist. I then stuffed my sandals down the front of my trousers and I folded up the backpack (that was empty except for the items in the smaller pocket) and shoved it down the back of my pants (I had to loosen my belt to get this to work). With this method, I was able to basically make my personal item bag "disappear." Since my jacket and hoodie were tied around my waist, this time with my jacket tied above my hoodie, I was able to walk up to the gate, say hello to the airline employee, have her scan my boarding pass, and walk down the jetway and onto the plane and all the way to my seat with nobody giving me a second glance. However, I did have to remove the items before I sat down from my trousers once I got on the plane, which can be done in the airplane lavatory. I hope to do a follow-up video about how I accomplished this soon.

Life has been tough without her..She was my everything..Took care of me...(health problems)..So times have been dark...The light in that darkness has been a Japanese all female rock band whom I have come to adore!..So much so I am fighting my depression etc to make a trip of a lifetime (for me) to Japan (from UK)to see them LIVE in concert in Tokyo...And as it's so expensive to fly out..I decided as it might be the only time I'll ever get to Japan in my life...I am gonna stay for 3 weeks to make it even more worth the cost (which is considerable, infact I should not be spending such money)...I have no travel experience (all past trips, 2, where booked and sorted by my late partner). It will be tough going being alone. But hope it will be a memory I can treasure..even if I have no-one to share it with.

what is so illegal about it? ...Cyprus in the period 1571 - 1959 Cyprus which was ruled by different suzerains, but which never in its entire history came under Greek rule, was conquered by the Ottomans in 1571 and ruled by them until 1878.

Thank you for your comment. I am sensitive to what a difficult and frustrating situation this is to the people of Cyprus, and what heartache this conflict has created for over half a century. As a foreign visitor who tries to to show respect to the people of the countries I visit, it is difficult to characterize this situation in a way that is balanced and takes into account the perspectives of people on both sides of this division. However, in response to your comment I did rewrite my video description in a manner that I hope is more fair and accurate.

Archeologically this narrative makes no sense. for the Via Dolorosa to be the path to the execution site you are assuming that Pilot was headquartered at the Antonia Fort, he was not, archeology proves the floor of the fort is from the 2nd century. The more likely place of Pilot was at Harrods Fortress which had its own gate, at the gate was a judgment seat and this is where they brought Jesus. He was scourged by the guards in the palace and returned to the Jews. The story of dragging Christ through the city to the execution site is inaccurate. The execution site was a short walk from Harrods gate at the palace. Also, Simon had not yet entered the city, as he was coming in from the wasteland, when he was told to carry the cross. This puts Simon outside the walls. I respectfully disagree with the whole concept of traversing the entire city, the execution had to be completed before the Sabbath, and dragging a beaten nearly to death broken man doesn't make sense as well as Pilot being at the Antonia Fort. The events of the crucifixion may have occurred, but they were outside the city walls and on the way to Golgotha Hill.

I do understand your reasoning. As I mention in the video, the Via Dolorosa in Jerusalem is the route that Jesus took to the crucifixion, "according to tradition," not according to archeology. This video is meant to document the path that, for centuries, pilgrims to Jerusalem have chosen to walk to commemorate the events of that day. Many have questioned whether this was the historically accurate path, and, like you, they have good reasons to doubt the historicity of this route. Most historians, however, do believe that the crucifixion did take place at the location upon which was built the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, shown in the video. Most scholars do think that this location is indeed likely to be Golgotha/Calvary, which, 2,000 years ago, was outside of the city walls (the walls of Jerusalem have expanded to include this area since then).

You are correct .. it all took place outside the city walls .. most of this is crusader period guesswork.. the archeological evidence corresponding to the Gospels is perfect.. a Roman governor needed an exit .. he was at herrod's palace .. too bad 99.9 percent of people do what this guy did..
