Join me as I walk along the full length of the Via Dolorosa in Jerusalem, the path on which, according to tradition, Jesus carried the cross to his crucifixion. On this journey I stop at each of the 14 stations of the cross. From Lions' Gate to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.

When I first went to The Via Dolorosa I was put out by the market scene, but a knowledgeable Priest informed me that those streets were markets even at the time of Christ.

Archeologically this narrative makes no sense. for the Via Dolorosa to be the path to the execution site you are assuming that Pilot was headquartered at the Antonia Fort, he was not, archeology proves the floor of the fort is from the 2nd century. The more likely place of Pilot was at Harrods Fortress which had its own gate, at the gate was a judgment seat and this is where they brought Jesus. He was scourged by the guards in the palace and returned to the Jews. The story of dragging Christ through the city to the execution site is inaccurate. The execution site was a short walk from Harrods gate at the palace. Also, Simon had not yet entered the city, as he was coming in from the wasteland, when he was told to carry the cross. This puts Simon outside the walls. I respectfully disagree with the whole concept of traversing the entire city, the execution had to be completed before the Sabbath, and dragging a beaten nearly to death broken man doesn't make sense as well as Pilot being at the Antonia Fort. The events of the crucifixion may have occurred, but they were outside the city walls and on the way to Golgotha Hill.

I do understand your reasoning. As I mention in the video, the Via Dolorosa in Jerusalem is the route that Jesus took to the crucifixion, "according to tradition," not according to archeology. This video is meant to document the path that, for centuries, pilgrims to Jerusalem have chosen to walk to commemorate the events of that day. Many have questioned whether this was the historically accurate path, and, like you, they have good reasons to doubt the historicity of this route. Most historians, however, do believe that the crucifixion did take place at the location upon which was built the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, shown in the video. Most scholars do think that this location is indeed likely to be Golgotha/Calvary, which, 2,000 years ago, was outside of the city walls (the walls of Jerusalem have expanded to include this area since then).

You are correct .. it all took place outside the city walls .. most of this is crusader period guesswork.. the archeological evidence corresponding to the Gospels is perfect.. a Roman governor needed an exit .. he was at herrod's palace .. too bad 99.9 percent of people do what this guy did..

Jesus was condemed ( outside the city walls on The Stone Pavement ) it was Jewish Law that anyone condemned to die had to be taken outside the city ! It's Gordan's Calvary & the Place of the Skull near Jeremiah's Grotto @ the now bus station near the garden toumb , not the church of the holy tourist trap ! John's Gospel

Yes, 2,000 years ago the walls of Jerusalem contained a much smaller area than it does now. Back then, the location of the crucifixion was outside of the city walls. However, since then, the walls of the city have expanded to include a much larger area, including Golgotha/Calvary. So that location is within the city walls now, but it wasn't back then. I mentioned in the video at 9:13 (at the 7th station) that this point was at the edge of the Old City, where a gate led out to the countryside.

Please read my reply, anyone condemned was unclean, and any jew who entered the Roman palace was unclean.

The Place of the Skull ( Satan's battle for your mind ) is still outside the city @ the bus station near the Damascus Gate on the road outside the City of Jerusalem so everyone coming into the city @ Passover could see the crucifixion & see it for themselves up close & personal
