One of the best albums ever. By any band. Saw them @ Donny 85,bought the grey sleevless T. Hadn't realised they played Belfast later that year. Why the f**k was I not there!? I was 19 & working. Been racking my brain & scouring Setlistfm to see if there were other gigs that soaked up my hard earned. Although saw them on the Vigilante tour. Just ordered Live at K.K.'s Mr. Clarkin is sorely missed. Another fantastic show guys. Thank you for the nostalgia. ❤

Was there. Stage left between stage and mix tower. The crowd bounce & surge was truly frightening as to the distance travelled and falling over on muddy ground and fighting to get up and stay on feet - I thank my lucky stars I was fortunate to see things out.🙏 Sound system was combo of Iron Maiden’s and one supplied by Turbosound - maximum output 500,000W and very high peak dBA - the biggest I think.- (Facebook articles on this btw) I confirm Diamond Dave did indeed fret & finger tap Steve Vai’s guitar from behind him - either Hot for T or Hot Dog I think 😎

Fun fact - Linzi Drew of Penthouse was the WASP girl. Absolutely agree about the end onto Bon Jovi’s set. The 1st 4 acts were the best and form my abiding memory of the day located between mixing desk and stage before retiring for a rest further back on the hill.

Scorpions - just a total unstoppable slick unit that day - immense! Oz - saw at Hammy O in Feb that year so felt a bit ‘same old and Oz in full widow twankie pantomime duster coat waddling about was a bit laughable. Jake is a guitar god…but the album had generally poor quality tunes and a poor mix.

WAS queen a huge band in the uk before live aid?? Like around 1984 when 'the works' album came out??
@talesfromthepowerage8 күн бұрын
Yes, Queen were one of the biggest bands in the Uk for years - a number one single in 75 with Bohemian Rhapsody etc. Live Aid was just a reminder for the world that they were still relevant, had the songs and the best live frontman in the world!!

Such an epic album and tour and a top five album of mine especially the track All England's Eyes. The band certainly had my eyes and ears for the shows I saw in 1985 which was one at The Dominion Theatre plus Donington. I brought grey t shirt with black sleeves if memory serves and got moved near the front of the London show as a mate knew someone who worked the venue, good times. Im guessing the Milton Keynes Bowl show in 1986 was a goodbye to the tour and a warm up for the next one. Excellent episode though guys.

I went to see Magnum on the Vigilante tour and went up there early to hang around and get my Vigilante album sleeve autographed. There's a small outbuilding s separate and away from the Odeon where the band's go for catering so it's a good spot to catch them. It was a cold day and after Mark signed my sleeve he went into the building, about two minutes later he stuck his head out the door and said, "Do you want a cup of tea?" Well, of course! He invited me in, made me a brew, we had a nice chat and then he had to get back to the band. He told me I could stay there and finish my tea before I resumed standing outside in the cold. What a top fella, really nice guy!

@@talesfromthepowerage It was insane. I didn't actually expect it to be Tony on the other end of the phone. From memory he asked what I wanted so I remember asking if they would ever play any cover versions like anything by AC/DC - yes I know - that is completely mad when I look back, his reply was that they never played any cover versions surprise surprise. Magnum vastly under rated, OASTN is their best album but in a catalogue that is wonderful. Tony Clarkin was a master song writer, hopefully there might be some Tull style boxsets to come in the future. I was at MOR 85 and I remember there was a bit of a breeze and Magnum suffered from a sound that was very in and out to say the least. It was also nice to have memories of Dunstable (I saw Gary Moore and Hanoi Rocks there) and Oxford New Theatre/Apollo (saw many there from 81-84).

Favourite albums from '24 - Priest and Bruce put out some belters, as did Nile, Fit for a Autopsy, Ripped to Shreds and The Cure...I know that's a little left field, but ... Gigs - hmmm, regrettably the Priest/Saxon package never made it to Wales and AC/DC have not been since Bon was still around. Also gutted that Therapy?'s Troublegum 30th Anniversary tour didn't have a Welsh date. But of the gigs that I did see, Bruce Dickinson was fantastic and so were The Cult. Crowbar, Cradle of Filth, Brujeria were also fantastic. Favourite episode of TOTPA - Revisiting Maiden's 86 tour and delving into Queen's News of the World album were repeat viewings. Look forward to more in '25...oh and thanks for the shout out 🤟🏻

Excellent, fun episode again boys. like some of you I heard Alive II first back in 1978, then the studio versions & preferred to listen to the tracks that were not on the live album. Not that the studio versions are bad, but as a kid you don`t have the patients, "skip that one, play the live one later". Like Jam, I have all five of the best in my top five-: 1. Detroit Rock City, 2. Shout It Out Loud, 3. King Of The Night time World, 4. Do You Love Me ?, 5. Flaming Youth. Cheers & looking forward to the next episode. 🤘🐑🎸🍺
