Excellent, fun episode again boys. like some of you I heard Alive II first back in 1978, then the studio versions & preferred to listen to the tracks that were not on the live album. Not that the studio versions are bad, but as a kid you don`t have the patients, "skip that one, play the live one later". Like Jam, I have all five of the best in my top five-: 1. Detroit Rock City, 2. Shout It Out Loud, 3. King Of The Night time World, 4. Do You Love Me ?, 5. Flaming Youth. Cheers & looking forward to the next episode. 🤘🐑🎸🍺

Only have the Alive album in my collection, but do have an interest in Destroyer. Kiss had their moments, but I find that Gene tends to tarnish their legacy. Not a massive fan but a great episode as usual.

Saw them back in 2014 at Download Festival, certainly a highlight of the day for me. Always remember at school wearing my leather jacket in 1984 and the boffins chanting We're Not Gonna Take It so at least I got noticed. Even my kids know Twisted Sister as I Wanna Rock is on Grand Theft Auto San Andreas or one of those PlayStation games. Great band, my favourite on TOTP back in the day too.

I saw Twisted Sister a couple of years later at Ipswich Gaumont, Come Out And Play Tour, absolutely stunning show, Dee is arguably one of the best front men ever. At the end of the show a whole load of us hung around to meet them and they decided to do an impromptu signing session, they just set up some tables in the foyer and let us all in! Only time I've ever seen that happen, absolutely top fellas, no question.

Surprised that Dee's confrontation with the PMRC wasn't brought up, where he told Tipper and the others what SMF stood for. Only got the albums up to Stay Hungry, though they did go into a steep decline not long after. Another great episode as always 🤟🏻

Brilliant episode guys. I was at that gig, travelled up with a few mates the night before, we got totally tanked and slept in what we thought were some woods and lit a camp fire. Woke up in the morning and we were on a roundabout! 🤣 the gig was great my first open air show. Gorgeous weather but like you said it got cold by the time Jovi came on. People were lighting huge fires and Jon said leave the fires when people were trying to put them out. The Aerosmith jam really was a thrill of a lifetime. Steven Tyler’s “Jon you hot shit, even the moon came out to see you tonight!” Summed up everything about the day. Amazing.

i was a bit too young for this as only 13..Saw Jovi in 90 and then every UK tour since inc MK bowl in 93, 96, 01 & 06. Original Skid Row were fantastic and saw them support GNR at Wembley in 91 and then their own UK tours after.
@VantagePointrocksАй бұрын
Another great episode. Would have loved to have been at that gig, a stellar line up with Jovi at the peak of their powers. Keep the Faith was indeed the last album with the classic line up, and for me, after Alec John Such left the band they didn't do another great album. Just rather bland albums which featured one or two good tunes and a lot of filler. Though as it is rumoured that Such didn't actually play on any of the albums, him leaving and the drop in quality in the music might have just been a coincidence.
@talesfromthepowerageАй бұрын
Thanks - I agree, I think rock works best as a when the band is a gang of mates (and the fans love that idea) - maybe they lost that a little when members started splitting off?

Met Skid Row and Bon Jovi when they flew into Stansted Airport to play the event. Bon Jovi got into a limo and Skid Row a tour bus but spent a great time with Sebastian and band talking Leather Jackets and cowboy boots. Was a warm day as the sunroof on my Vauxhall Astra 1.6 was used. Skid Row the Big Guns to be were perfect opening and Vixen were due to play Donington MOR in 1989 with Femme Fatale but the tragedy in 1988 🙏 meant the event was cancelled. Europe were tight as always and Bon Jovi the band on the day as Id seen them same tour in 1988 and would again in 1990. Wanted more New Jersey but an extended Blood On Blood was superb so made up for that. Saw the Aerosmith gig at Wembley a couple of months later too. Good times.

This was a brilliant day out lads. We travelled down from Derbyshire, if I’m honest mainly for the debut of Skid Row. Enjoyed all the bands on the day, and if you remember, Seb announced from the stage of an impromptu gig the following night at the Marquee. End of the day we drove straight to London and queued up for over 16 hours as it was pay on the door. We made it in, another cracking weekend overall.
@talesfromthepowerageАй бұрын
Bloody hell - that’s brilliant. Good job. Such dedication!!
@mark71Ай бұрын
Just a couple of anecdotes, we maybe hit the Marquee 2-3am and weren’t at the front so the queue had already started, was definitely in the first 20-30 though. Through the day staff associated with the marquee were checking the queue, never seen that before and it was a Sunday. Skid Row actually drove past and Sebastian shouted greetings to us. They did a signing that day at a record store ( can’t remember which one, maybe Shades) I knew if you went to the signing you wouldn’t get the gig. Around 7ish I remember the taxis pulling up outside and some scenesters with good hair stepping out, no chance dude we been here 16 hours plus, the staff who had been checking through the day, stopped them pushing in and ushered them to the back, no chance of getting in 😂

Boys are spot on with the Thin Lizzy best live album ever assessment - 100% agree. One of my favourite records of all time that I've loved for over FORTY YEARS NOW! I always preferred this record to any of their studio stuff. The Ramones "It's alive," is a glaring omission lads - also way better than any studio record they ever did and every tracks a banger... obviously the DC record is near the top of the list too. Great pod lads.

I can't fault your selections gents; sadly I'm old enough to have bought most of those on vinyl when they were released! There is one glaring omission for my money though - no mention (even in the also-rans) for the mighty "Slade Alive!". I suppose Slade are often thought of as 'just' a 70's glam-rock singles band, but surely they must rank up there as one of this country's greatest ever live acts, with one of our greatest ever front men - Noddy Holder. I was lucky enough to see them at the Reading Festival 1980 (filling in after Ozzy's 'Blizzard of Oz' withdrew) when they stole the show. Another 70's live LP I'm partial to is Ted Nugent's "Double Live ... Gonzo!!"; he might not be everyone's cup of tea, but that album rocks.
@JammoTFTPАй бұрын
I never recovered from comments Nugent made about Phil Lynott many years ago 🤷♂️, great point about Slade, my go to Slade Live album was in the 80’s…. Perhaps if we ever do an 80’s live album episode 🤔🤔🤔

Really enjoyed that guys . My Top 5 favourite ( which does not automatically mean BEST ) 1. Strangers In The Night 2. Alive 2 3. Alive 1 4. Rainbow Live 5. Tokyo Tapes For me anything that is a single album loses out on VFM . Had AC/DC , Priest or Cheap Trick been doubles they'd have been in my Top 5 . As an aside the front cover of Alive 1 is a staged image at Mitchigan Palace and the back at Cobo Hall . Alive 2 was part Japan 77 and LA 77 . Type in ' Rock and Roll Party in Japan ' into Tout for KISS and you'll get what was going to be a Japan only Alive 2.

Yes totally agree about the double album thing… seems almost wrong, a lost opportunity for any band in my opinion cheers

@rogermaybank9345Ай бұрын
A couple of more points, firstly live albums can be a great jumping off point for getting into a band particularly if they already have a half decent back catalogue, a live album is effectively a best of. Secondly, one notable band missing from the seventies list? Black Sabbath! Eventuality they did release an Ozzy era live album, (Live At Last) but I don't think that came out until early eighties and it wasn't very good. I guess we'd have to wait until the eighties for Live Evil but I guess that's to be discussed in the next instalment...
@SteveStrummerUKАй бұрын
Regarding your first point Roger, I totally agree. AC/DC's "Live At Donnington" (1991) is just that - a 'greatest hits' of their back catalogue. It's also one of the best produced live albums I own.
